  • Interoperability has been the problem of CAD/CAM systems. Starting from 1980's, national and international organizations have addressed the issue through development and release of standards for the exchange of geometric and nongeometric design data. To CAD/CAM vendors, the task of interpreting and implementing these standards falls into their products. This task is a balancing action between users' needs, available development resources, and the technical specifications of standards. This paper explores an area of CAD/CAM systems development, particularly the implementation of the effective exchange files translators'. A new approach is introduced, which proposes to enclose all the translation operations concerning each exchange format to a separate DLL, thus making a 'plug-in.' Then, this plug-in could be used together with the CAD/CAM system or with specialized translation software. This approach allows to create new translators rapidly and to gain the reliable, high-efficiency, and reusable program code. The second part of the paper concerns the possible problems of translators' development. These difficulties often come from the exchange standards' misunderstanding or ambiguity in standards. All examples come from the authors' practice experiences of dealing with CAD/CAM systems.

  • Characterization of discontinuous media is an endeavor that poses great challenge to engineers in practice. Since the inherent defects in cracked domains can substantially influence material resistance and govern its behavior, a lot of work is dedicated to efficiently model such effects. In order to overcome difficulties of material instability problems, one needs to comprehensively represent the geometry of cracks along with their impact on the mechanical properties of the intact material. In the present study, stress-strain results from laboratory experiments on Inada granite was used to derive crack tensor as a tool for the evaluation of fractured domain stability. It was found that the formulations proposed earlier could satisfactorily be employed to attain crack tensor via the invariants of which judgment on cracks population and induced anisotropy is possible. The earlier criteria based on crack tensor analyses were reviewed and compared to the results of the current study. It is concluded that the geometrical parameters calculated using mechanical properties could confidently be used to judge the anisotropy as well as strength of the cracked domain.

  • There have been two methods of estimating computer related security risk such as qualitative and quantitative methods which have distinctive advantages or disadvantages. The former is too narrative and somehow abstract to implement and the latter produces concrete result but needs lots of data, so that it is needed to develop a method overcoming such difficulties. It is advised to mix such two methods in a proper way depending on the conditions of a computer system. In this article, a concept of fuzzy number is employed on the way of mixing the two methods and provide a simple example using fuzzy numbers. Simulation was conducted for an assumed model system and it is demonstrated how to calculated expected and unexpected risk.

  • This study analyzes the management performance and productivity of environmentfriendly farms compared to conventional farms and the trend of changes in price premium rates of environment-friendly agricultural products. And environmentfriendly farms in Jeollanam-do are surveyed for difficulties in management, proper premium rate of environment-friendly agricultural products (WTA), and tasks for promoting sales. According to the analysis results, the management performance and productivity of are low in many items, and the number of items that are on the decline or stagnant in the environment-friendly premium is making it difficult for farmers to manage. According to a farm survey, the most important task is to promote school meals for boosting sales of environment-friendly agricultural products. And 65.5% of the respondents having contract cultivation, nearly half or 41.1% of the respondents said they do not need contract cultivation or want contract cultivation for less than one year, which means that the current contract does not meet the needs of farmers. Finally, the environment-friendly premium rate based on consumer prices is generally lower than the premium rate (WTA) that farmers perceive as appropriate, so it is important to resolve the gap between the actual premium rate and the WTA.

  • The use of appropriate fonts is not only an aesthetic point of view, but also a factor influencing the reinforcement of meaning. However, it is a difficult process and wastes a lot of time for general users to choose a font that suits their needs and emotions. Therefore, in this study, keywords and fonts to be used in the experiment were selected for emotion-based font recommendation, and keyword values for each font were calculated through an experiment to check the correlation between keywords and fonts. Using the experimental results, a prototype of a keyword-based font recommendation system was designed and the possibility of the system was tested. As a result of the usability evaluation of the font recommendation system prototype, it received a positive evaluation compared to the existing font search system, but the number of fonts was limited and users had difficulties in the process of associating keywords suitable for their desired situation. Therefore, we plan to expand the number of fonts and conduct follow-up research to automatically recommend fonts suitable for the user's situation without selecting keywords.

  • This study was conducted to make a policy proposal for Korean grandparent-grandchildren families, analyzing what adversities adolescent grandchildren suffer when living in a grandparent-grandchild family, the types of Korean families and how family resilience appears as family power. In order to conduct this study, 20 consenting adolescents were selected for an interview from grandparent-grandchildren families recommended by the U City Healthy Family Support Center. This study suggests the following conclusions. First, we discussed divorce, death, financial bankruptcy related stress, economic difficulties in the present family, accidents involving family members of a grandparent-grandchild family, grandparents' serious disease, death, family conflicts and family comparisons with friends. Second, in the domain of family resilience, desire to maintain the family appeared as a Korean value. In addition, efforts to bond as an emotional family and grandchildren's attitudes of gratitude to grandparents are also expressed. However, family conversation appears weak due to the generation gap between adolescents and grandparents or complications from family stress. Third, the resilience in the family organization appeared weak since there are relatively insufficient socio-economic resources to support the family. This study makes several suggestions for family policies and shows the necessity to develop policies that reflect the needs of grandchildren and grandparents.

  • An alt-azimuth type mount system, developed at the Space Science and Technology Laboratory, Kyung Hee University, has been found to experience some difficulties in monitoring of the artificial space objects. Since the telescope installed on the alt-azimuth mount does not rotate on the same axis as the earth does, this mount system needs an instrument rotator to correct the field rotation. Although there are some commercial instrument rotators already in the market, those are not suitable for our system due to their low interchangeability. In this study, we have designed a new high speed instrument rotator and calculated the deformation of new designed system using structural analyses.
