In this paper we propose a Differentiated Services Based Admission Control and Routing Algorithm for IPv6 (ACMRA). The basic DiffServ architecture lacks an admission control mechanism, the injection of more QoS sensitive traffic into the network can cause congestion at the core of the network. Our Differentiated Services Based Admission Control and Routing Algorithm for IPv6 combines the admission control phase with the route finding phase, and our routing protocol has been designed in a way to work alongside DiffServ based networks. The Differentiated Services Based Admission Control and Routing Algorithm for IPv6 constructs label switched paths in order to provide rigorous QoS provisioning. We have conducted extensive simulations to validate the effectiveness and efficiency of our proposed admission control and routing algorithm. Simulation Results show that the Differentiated Services Based Admission Control and Routing Algorithm for IPv6 provides an excellent packet delivery ratio, reduces the control packets' overhead, and makes use of the resources present on multiple paths to the destination network, while almost each admitted flow shows compliance with its Service Level Agreement.
Differentiated Services (DiffServ) is a technique to provide Quality of Service (QoS) in an efficient and scalable way. However, current DiffServ specifications have limitations in providing the complete QoS management framework and its implementation model. This paper proposes a policy-based QoS management model that supports DiffServ policies for managing QoS of DiffServ networks. The management model conforms to Model-View-Controller (MVC) architecture, and is based on Enterprise JavaBeans (EJBs) technologies. In our model, high-level DiffServ QoS policies are represented as valid XML documents with an XML Schema and are translated to low-level EJB policy beans in the EJB-based policy server. The routing topology and role information required to define QoS policies is discovered by using SNMP MIB-II, and the QoS policy distribution and monitoring is accomplished by using SNMP DiffServ MIB.
At the extremes of the complexity-performance plane, there are two exemplary QoS management architectures: Integrated Services (IntServ) and Differentiated Services (DiffServ). IntServ performs ideally but is not scalable. DiffServ is simple enough to be adopted in today' core networks, but without any performance guarantee. Many compromise solutions have been proposed. These schemes, called quasi-stateful IntServ or stateful DiffServ, however, have not attracted much attention due to their inherently compromising natures. Two disruptive flow-based architectures have been recently introduced: the flow-aware network (FAN) and the flow-state-aware network (FSA). FAN's control is implicit without any signaling. FSA's control is even more sophisticated than that of IntServ. In this paper, we survey established QoS architectures, review disruptive architectures, discuss their rationales, and points out their disadvantages. A new QoS management architecture, flow-aggregate-based services (FAbS), is then proposed. The FAbS architecture has two novel building blocks: inter-domain flow aggregation and endpoint implicit admission control.

In 3G networks interworking with external IP-based networks, provision of end-to-end QoS to packet-based services is a critical issue. In this paper, we propose DiffServ-aware Multiple Protocol Label Switching(MPLS) as a new policy enforcement means. With the adoption of the proposed DiffServ-aware MPLS, it is feasible to provide differentiated QoS provision with the help of DiffServ as well as to improve network utilization by using multiple paths based on MPLS. We verify the effectiveness of our proposed policy enforcement means through a simulation in which realtime traffic and non-realtime traffic are served together.

따라서 본 연구에서는IP 네트워크를 기반으로 하는 SIP에서 QoS를 제공하기 위해 IntServ(Integrated Services)와 DiffServ(Differentiated Services)를 연동한 QoS 메카니즘을 제시한다.

Many multicast applications, such as video-on-demand and video conferencing, desire quality of service (QoS) support from an underlying network. The differentiated services (DiffServ) approach will bring benefits for theses applications. However, difficulties arise while integrating native IP multicasting with DiffServ, such as multicast group states in the core routers and a heterogeneous QoS requirement within the same multicast group. In addition, a missing per-flow reservation in DiffServ and a dynamic join/leave in the group introduce heavier and uncontrollable traffic in a network. In this paper, we propose a distributed and stateless admission control in the edge routers. We also use a mobile agents-based approach for dynamic resource availability checking. In this approach, mobile agents act in a parallel and distributed fashion and cooperate with each other in order to construct the multicast tree satisfying the QoS requirements.
This paper presents a delay-margin based traffic engineering (TE) approach to provide end-to-end quality of service (QoS) in multi-protocol label switching (MPLS) networks using differentiated services (DiffServ) at the link level. The TE, including delay, class, and route assignments, is formulated as a nonlinear optimization problem reflecting the inter-class and inter-link dependency introduced by DiffServ and end-to-end QoS requirements. Three algorithms are used to provide a solution to the problem: The first two, centralized offline route configuration and link-class delay assignment, operate in the convex areas of the feasible region to consecutively reduce the objective function using a per-link per-class decomposition of the objective function gradient. The third one is a heuristic that promotes/demotes connections at different links in order to deal with concave areas that may be produced by a trunk route usage of more than one class on a given link. Approximations of the three algorithms suitable for on-line distributed TE operation are also derived. Simulation is used to show that proposed approach can increase the number of users while maintaining end-to-end QoS requirements.

Differentiated services (DiffServ) has been widely accepted as the service model to adopt for providing quality-ofservice (QoS) over the next-generation IP networks. There is a growing need to support QoS in mobile ad hoc networks. Supporting DiffServ in mobile ad hoc networks, however, is very difficult because of the dynamic nature of mobile ad hoc networks, which causes network congestion. The network congestion induces long transfer packet delay and low throughput which make it very difficult to support QoS in mobile ad hoc networks. We propose DiffServ module to support differentiated service in mobile ad hoc networks through congestion control. Our DiffServ module uses the periodical rate control for real time traffic and also uses the best effort bandwidth concession when network congestion occurs. Network congestion is detected by measuring the packet transfer delay or bandwidth threshold of real time traffic. We evaluate our mechanism via a simulation study. Simulation results show our mechanism may offer a low and stable delay and a stable throughput for real time traffic in mobile ad hoc networks.
Today, QoS is one of the most critical issues in the network research area and Differentiated Services (DiffServ) is considered as the most prominent solution to provide some kinds of service differentiation without introducing any scalability problem. Among DiffServ's approaches, Assured Service (AS) provides some minimal level of QoS guarantee by treating more preferably than traditional Best Effort (BE) traffic and by using different level of drop probabilities within the same AS classes. In this paper, we investigate the ECN's capability of improving overall goodput of the flows and the possibility of resolving the fairness problem among the flows belonging to same class in Differentiated Services architecture.
