  • A new MR cylinder with built-in valves using MR fluid (MR valve) is suggested and fabricated fur fluid control systems. The MR fluid is a newly developed functional fluid whose obvious viscosity is controlled by the applied magnetic field intensity. The MR cylinder is composed of cylinder with small clearance and piston with electromagnet. The differential pressure is controlled by the applied magnetic field intensity. It has the characteristics of simple, compact and reliable structure. The size of MR cylinder and piston has $\varphi30mm\times300mm$ and $\varphi28.5mm\times120mm$ in face size, respectively and 0.8mm in gap length. Through experiments, it was found that the differential pressure is controlled by the applied magnetic field intensity under little influence of the flow rate, which corresponds to a pressure control valve. The differential pressure of 0.47MPa was obtained with the input current of 1.5A. The rising time was 2.3s in step response of a manipulator using the MR cylinder. The effectiveness of the MR cylinder was also demonstrated through the position control.

  • A new MR cylinder with built-in valves using MR fluid (MR valve) is proposed for fluid power control systems. The MR or Magneto-Rheololgical fluid is a newly developed functional fluid whose obvious viscosity is controlled by the applied magnetic field intensity. The MR cylinder is composed of cylinder with small clearance and piston with electromagnet. The differential pressure is controlled by the applied magnetic field intensity. It has the characteristics of simple, compact and reliable structure. The size of MR cylinder and piston has ${\varphi}$60mm${\times}$259mm and ${\varphi}$58mm${\times}$136.5mm in face size respectively and 0.8mm in gap length. Through experiments on the static characteristics, it is found that the differential pressure is controlled by the applied magnetic field intensity under little influence of the flow rate, which corresponds to a pressure control valve. Effectiveness of the MR cylinder is demonstrated through the position control of one link MR manipulator.

  • The typical hydraulic system of hoist is composed of a hydraulic supply unit, a directional control valve, counter balance valve, and flow control valves. The flow capacity coefficients of flow control valves should be adjusted so that the hoist is operated at moderate speed and the hydraulic energy loss is minimized. However, it is difficult to adjust the flow coefficients of flow control valves by trial and error for optimal operation. Here, the steady state model of the hoist hydraulic system including the differential cylinder circuit is derived and the optimal flow capacity coefficients of flow control valves are obtained using the complex method that is one kind of constrained direct search method.

  • This study deals with the position control of a hydraulic cylinder system operated by two port 3-way high speed solenoid valve in Pulse-Width-Modulation mode, instead of using conventional electro-hydraulic servovalve. Due to the complexity and the relatively poor reliability of the servovalve, an actuator using simpler and more study high speed solenoid valve will be presented. The high speed solenoid valve acts as converters of electronic pulse signal to hydraulic ones. It has been pointed out that there are practical problems to be solved in the PWM system, that is (1) accuracy of positioning control becomes considerably insufficient because the system is affected by on/off action of the solenoid valves, and (2) serious nonlinerality appears in the valve characteristics as a result of the switching behavior of the valves. As a method to overcome these defects, the differential PWM driving method of a hydraulic cylinder that improved the steady-state-error, flow rate nonlinearity in simple PWM, and the hydraulic hunting of dead time compensated-PWM driving is proposed in this study.

  • Three dimensional free vibrations analysis of functionally graded fiber reinforced cylindrical shell is presented, using differential quadrature method (DQM). The cylindrical shell is assumed to have continuous grading of fiber volume fraction in the radial direction. Suitable displacement functions are used to reduce the equilibrium equations to a set of coupled ordinary differential equations with variable coefficients, which can be solved by differential quadrature method to obtain natural frequencies. The main contribution of this work is presenting useful results for continuous grading of fiber reinforcement in the thickness direction of a cylindrical shell and comparison with similar discrete laminate composite ones. Results indicate that significant improvement is found in natural frequency of a functionally graded fiber reinforced cylinder due to the reduction in spatial mismatch of material properties and natural frequency.

  • This study proposes a novel use of backpropagated Levenberg-Marquardt neural networks based on computational intelligence heuristics to comprehend the examination of hybrid nanoparticles on the flow of dusty liquid via stretched cylinder. A two-phase model is employed in the present work to describe the fluid flow. The use of desulphated nanoparticles of silver and molybdenum suspended in water as base fluid. The mathematical model represented in terms of partial differential equations, Implementing similarity transformationsis model is converted to ordinary differential equations for the analysis . By adjusting the particle mass concentration and curvature parameter, a unique technique is utilized to generate a dataset for the proposed Levenberg-Marquardt neural networks in various nanoparticle circumstances on the flow of dusty liquid via stretched cylinder. The intelligent solver Levenberg-Marquardt neural networks is trained, tested and verified to identify the nanoparticles on the flow of dusty liquid solution for various situations. The Levenberg-Marquardt neural networks approach is applied for the solution of the hybrid nanoparticles on the flow of dusty liquid via stretched cylinder model. It is validated by comparison with the standard solution, regression analysis, histograms, and absolute error analysis. Strong agreement between proposed results and reference solutions as well as accuracy provide an evidence of the framework's validity.

  • This paper shows a performance analysis for conical type sealless cylinders and rod bearings. The pistons without seal have partly cylindrical and conical shapes. 2 dimensional Reynolds equation and FD(finite differential) numerical techniques are utilized for the performance analysis. The relationship among self-centering forces and leakage flows are investigated. Also, optimal design values for a sealless cylinder are presented. A prototype of sealless cylinder which had rod bearing with four pockets, five pockets, and six pockets was manufactured respectively. Leakage flow test is conducted to evaluate performance of piston and rod bearing in sealless cylinder.
