H.264 동영상 압축을 위한 부 화소 단위에서의 고속 움직임 추정 방법 (A Fast Sub-pixel Motion Estimation Method for H.264 Video Compression)

  • 움직임 추정은 H.264의 비디오 코딩 과정에서 가장 많은 연산량을 차지하는 중요한 처리과정이다. 움직임 추정 과정에서 정수배 화소 단위에서의 탐색에 비하여, 1/2 화소 (half-pixel)와 1/4 화소(quarter-pixel) 단위까지의 움직임 추정은 영상압축률을 높일 수 있지만, 계산의 복잡도가 늘어나는 문제가 있다. 본 논문에서는 각 블록간의 절대 오차 값인 SAD (Sum of Absolute Difference)가 최소 점을 기준으로 포물선 모양의 분포를 나타내는 특성 및 1/2 단위와 1/4 단위의 화소 보간 특성을 이용하여 움직임 추정 과정에서 탐색 점을 줄임으로써 처리속도를 증가시키고, 계산의 복잡도를 줄이는 알고리듬을 제안하였다. 제안한 방법에서는, 정수 화소 단위에서의 가장 작은 SAD를 갖는 점을 기준으로 주위 8점 가운데 두 번째로 SAD가 작은 점을 찾아 해당 방향으로 1/2 화소 단위의 움직임 추정을 행하였고, 1/4 화소 단위에서도 1/2 화소단위에서 두 번째로 SAD가 작은 점 방향으로 움직임 추정을 실행하였다. 그 결과 기존 알고리듬에 비해 비교적 화질에 변화가 없고, 인코더 처리과정 에서 약 20%의 빠른 속도로 처리하는 결과를 보였다.

  • 동일 환자에게 적용된 2가지 진단검사의 정확성을 비교하기 위한 방법들 중에서 두개의 ROC곡선 아래 면적(AUC; Area Under Curve)의 차이는 주요한 잣대 중 하나이다. 본 연구에서는 AUC의 차이를 추정하는 방법으로 비모수적방법, 최대가능도법, 일반화추축량에 의한 방법, 붓스트랩방법의 4가지를 포함확률(coverage probability), 기대길이 (expected length) 측면에서 모의실험을 통하여 비교하였다.

An Improved Texture Feature Extraction Method for Recognizing Emphysema in CT Images

  • In this study we propose a new texture feature extraction method based on an estimation of the brightness and structural uniformity of CT images representing the important characteristics for emphysema recognition. The Center-Symmetric Local Binary Pattern (CS-LBP) is first used to combine gray level in order to describe the brightness uniformity characteristics of the CT image. Then the gradient orientation difference is proposed to generate another CS-LBP code combining with gray level to represent the structural uniformity characteristics of the CT image. The usage of the gray level, CS-LBP and gradient orientation differences enables the proposed method to extract rich and distinctive information from the CT images in multiple directions. Experimental results showed that the performance of the proposed method is more stable with respect to sensitivity and specificity when compared with the SGLDM, GLRLM and GLDM. The proposed method outperformed these three conventional methods (SGLDM, GLRLM, and GLDM) 7.85[%], 22.87[%], and 16.67[%] respectively, according to the diagnosis of average accuracy, demonstrated by the Receiver Operating Characteristic (ROC) curves.

기후변화 시나리오 편의보정 기법에 따른 강우-유출 특성 분석 (Analysis of Rainfall-Runoff Characteristics on Bias Correction Method of Climate Change Scenarios)

  • Runoff behaviors by five bias correction methods were analyzed, which were Change Factor methods using past observed and estimated data by the estimation scenario with average annual calibration factor (CF_Y) or with average monthly calibration factor (CF_M), Quantile Mapping methods using past observed and estimated data considering cumulative distribution function for entire estimated data period (QM_E) or for dry and rainy season (QM_P), and Integrated method of CF_M+QM_E(CQ). The peak flow by CF_M and QM_P were twice as large as the measured peak flow, it was concluded that QM_P method has large uncertainty in monthly runoff estimation since the maximum precipitation by QM_P provided much difference to the other methods. The CQ method provided the precipitation amount, distribution, and frequency of the smallest differences to the observed data, compared to the other four methods. And the CQ method provided the rainfall-runoff behavior corresponding to the carbon dioxide emission scenario of SRES A1B. Climate change scenario with bias correction still contained uncertainty in accurate climate data generation. Therefore it is required to consider the trend of observed precipitation and the characteristics of bias correction methods so that the generated precipitation can be used properly in water resource management plan establishment.

Prediction of 305 Days Milk Production from Early Records in Dairy Cattle Using an Empirical Bayes Method

  • A prediction of 305 d milk production from early records using an empirical Bayes method (EBM) was performed. The EBM was compared with the best predicted estimation (BPE), test interval method (TIM), and the linearized Wood's model (LWM). Daily milk yields were obtained from 606 first lactation Japanese Holstein cows in three herds. From each file of 305 daily records, 10 random test day records with an interval of approximately one month were taken. The accuracies of these methods were compared using the absolute difference (AD) and the standard deviation (SD) of the differences between the actual and the estimated 305 d milk production. The results showed that in the early stage of the lactation, EBM was superior in obtaining the prediction with high accuracy. When all the herds were analyzed jointly, the AD during the first 5 test day records were on average 373, 590, 917 and 1,042 kg for EBM, BPE, TIM, and LWM, respectively. Corresponding SD for EBM, BPE, TIM, and LWM were on average 488, 733, 747 and 1,605 kg. When the herds were analyzed separately, the EBM predictions retained high accuracy. When more information on the actual lactation was added to the prediction, TIM and LWM gradually achieved better accuracies. Finally, in the last period of the lactation, the accuracy of both of the methods exceeded EBM and BPM. The AD for the last 2 samples analyzing all the herds jointly were on average 141, 142, 164, and 214 kg for LWM, TIM, EBM, and BPE, respectively. In the current practices of collecting monthly records, early prediction of future milk production may be more accurate using EBM. Alternatively, if enough information of the actual lactation is accumulated, TIM may obtain better accuracy in the latter stage of lactation.

교통사고 추정방법 비교 연구: 경험적 베이즈 추정치 vs. 관측교통사고건수 (Comparative Study on the Estimation Methods of Traffic Crashes: Empirical Bayes Estimate vs. Observed Crash)

  • 교통안전연구에서 한 지점 (또는 구간)의 기대교통사고건수를 신뢰성 높게 추정하는 것은 매우 중요하다. 기대교통사고건수를 추정하기 위해 현재 국내에서는 주로 관측교통사고건수를 사용하고 있으나 국외에서는 포아송-감마 혼합모형에 기반한 경험적 베이즈 추정치를 활용하고 있는 추세이다. 그간 많은 연구들이 경험적 베이즈 추정치를 이용해 기대교통사고건수 추정 및 교통안전개선사업의 평가를 시도 하였으나 전술한 2가지 추정방법의 추정오차를 비교연구한 문헌은 없는 실정인 바 본 연구는 2가지 추정방법의 추정오차를 모의실험을 통해 비교 분석하여 제시하였다. 모의 발생된 총 3,000,000개 지점의 교통사고 자료를 분석한 결과 기대교통사고건수를 경험적 베이즈 추정방법을 이용해 추정했을 경우 그 추정오차는 관측교통 사고건수만을 이용했을 때 발생하는 추정오차에 비해 항상 작은 것으로 나타나 국내의 교통안전연구 가이드라인에 경험적 베이지안 추정방법의 도입이 필요할 것으로 판단된다. 그러나 사전분포의 불확실성이 높아질수록 두 가지 추정방법의 추정오차의 차이는 감소하는 것으로 나타나, 기대교통사고건수 추정 시 추정된 음이항 모형에 대한 종합적인 검증을 수행한 후 신뢰성 있는 초모수의 추정치를 이용해 경험적 베이지안 방법을 적용하는 것이 바람직하다고 판단된다.

고밀도 3D 형상 계측 시스템에서의 고속 시차 추정을 위한 NCC 알고리즘 기반 하드웨어 구조 (A hardware architecture based on the NCC algorithm for fast disparity estimation in 3D shape measurement systems)

  • This paper proposes an efficient hardware architecture to estimate disparities between 2D images for generating 3D depth images in a stereo vision system. Stereo matching methods are classified into global and local methods. The local matching method uses the cost functions based on pixel windows such as SAD(sum of absolute difference), SSD(sum of squared difference) and NCC(normalized cross correlation). The NCC-based cost function is less susceptible to differences in noise and lighting condition between left and right images than the subtraction-based functions such as SAD and SSD, and for this reason, the NCC is preferred to the other functions. However, software-based implementations are not adequate for the NCC-based real-time stereo matching, due to its numerous complex operations. Therefore, we propose a fast pipelined hardware architecture suitable for real-time operations of the NCC function. By adopting a block-based box-filtering scheme to perform NCC operations in parallel, the proposed architecture improves processing speed compared with the previous researches. In this architecture, it takes almost the same number of cycles to process all the pixels, irrespective of the window size. Also, the simulation results show that its disparity estimation has low error rate.

기능성 발보조기 착용 전후의 시상면의 편평족 발목각도 변화에 관한 연구 (Study on Change of the Flatfoot's Ankle Angle in Sagittal plane before and after Wearing FFO)

  • The foot performs an important function in supporting the body and keeping body balance. An abnormal walking habit breaks the balance of the human body as well as the normal function of the foot. The influence of a flatfoot(pes planus) occupies a considerable portion of the various causes resulting in the wrong walking habit. But, little studies has been done by the functional foot orthotics for the flat foot. The object of this study, therefore, is to propose a new approach method to reveal the effects of the improvement of the foot function by using orthotics. The essential point of this study is to measure and analyze the change of ankle angle in the sagittal plane for flat foot subjects wearing the orthotics. Before and after wearing the functional orthotics, the gait analysis of flat foot subjects was conducted in three experimental aspects : the change of ankle angle, the change of the total Ankle ROM and the difference of left & right ankle angle in the sagittal plane. 1. The average ankle angle differences of before-and-after wearing the orthotics have declined like this; left : $2.71^{\circ}$, right: $1.91^{\circ}$ (p<0.05). 2. Total ankle ROM also showed decrease in both sides while the left side's is rather slight; left : $0.57^{\circ}$, right : $2.07^{\circ}$ (p<0.05). 3. The difference of left and right ankle angle in the sagittal plane decreased by $0.71^{\circ}$ (p<0.05). In result, it is confirmed that the functional foot orthotics have a significant effect on mechanical movement of ankle joint for flat foot. it is expected that this paper will be further studied and improved as a practical estimation method in the research on the effect of foot-orthotics.

국내 차량의 동적 주행 특성을 반영한 미시적 온실가스 배출량 산정방법론 (Instantaneous GHG Emission Estimation Method Considering Vehicle Characteristics in Korea)

  • 자동차는 다양한 차속, 가감속도 및 출력의 변화를 겪게 된다. 이와 같은 동적 주행 특성에 의한 온실가스 배출특성은 현행 평균속도 기반의 방법만으로는 정확히 추정하기 어려운 것으로 알려져 있다. 본 연구에서는 미시적 주행 특성의 변화를 고려하는 국외의 미시 기반 배출량 산정방법론 중에서 MOVES를 국내에 도입하기에 가장 적합한 모형으로 선정하여 국내 적용 가능한 미시기반 온실가스 배출량 산정 모형을 개발하였다. 개발 모형에는 MOVES의 배출량 산정 개념을 도입하고, MOVES의 기본 배출율 맵을 활용하여 국내 차량 구분에 맞는 미시 배출맵을 추정하여 적용하였다. 본 개발 모형을 기존 우리나라 배출계수 산정 체계와 연계시켜 비교한 결과 MOVES로부터 추정한 미시 배출율 맵을 국내에 적용하는 것이 타당하나 양국간의 차량규모의 차이를 고려할 필요성이 있음을 발견하였다. 이에, 차종별로 미시배출맵 보정계수를 추정하여 적용함으로써 우리나라 대표 차종에 대응하는 미시기반 배출율 맵을 추정하여 개발모형을 실제로 국내에 활용할 수 있도록 하였다.

LTE 시스템 채널 추정치의 후처리 기법 연구 (A Study on the Postprocessing of Channel Estimates in LTE System)

  • The Long Term Evolution (LTE) system is designed to provide a high quality data service for fast moving mobile users. It is based on the Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) and relies its channel estimation on the training samples which are systematically built within the transmitting data. Either a preamble or a lattice type is used for the distribution of training samples and the latter suits better for the multipath fading channel environment whose channel frequency response (CFR) fluctuates rapidly with time. In the lattice-type structure, the estimation of the CFR makes use of the least squares estimate (LSE) for each pilot samples, followed by an interpolation both in time-and in frequency-domain to fill up the channel estimates for subcarriers corresponding to data samples. All interpolation schemes should rely on the pilot estimates only, and thus, their performances are bounded by the quality of pilot estimates. However, the additive noise give rise to high fluctuation on the pilot estimates, especially in a communication environment with low signal-to-noise ratio. These high fluctuations could be monitored in the alternating high values of the first forward differences (FFD) between pilot estimates. In this paper, we analyzed statistically those FFD values and propose a postprocessing algorithm to suppress high fluctuations in the noisy pilot estimates. The proposed method is based on a localized adaptive moving-average filtering. The performance of the proposed technique is verified on a multipath environment suggested on a 3GPP LTE specification. It is shown that the mean-squared error (MSE) between the actual CFR and pilot estimates could be reduced up to 68% from the noisy pilot estimates.
