A Study on Public Librarians' Job Satisfaction by Management and Employment Styles: Focused on Public Libraries in Daegu Metropolitan City (운영방식과 고용형태에 따른 공공도서관 사서의 직무만족도에 관한 연구 - 대구광역시 소재 공공도서관을 중심으로 -)

  • This study aims at analyzing librarians' job satisfaction at public libraries in Dae-gu, according to various management and employment styles. As a theoretical study, it discusses management styles of public libraries and argues concepts and factors of job satisfaction. Based on the discussion the study selects 7 factors of job satisfaction and conducts a survey. All the respondents are satisfactory to 4 factors; job, co-worker, superior officer, and business affairs, but are not satisfactory to 3 factors; wages, welfare, and employment. There are differences between contract managed libraries and direct managed libraries. At local government's contract managed libraries there is no difference in a sense of job insecurity between full-time and part-time librarians. The remarkable differences between full-time and part-time librarians are concerning participation in decision making processes and discretion in business affairs. The most significant differences between them are about wages, welfare and employment.

The Effects of Concept Mapping with Explanation Feedback in the Undergraduate General Chemistry Course (일반 화학 수업에서 설명적 피드백을 이용한 개념도 학습의 효과)

  • In this study, the effects of concept mapping with feedbacks providing explanatory comments on students' achievement, science learning anxiety, and science learning motivation were investigated in the undergraduate general chemistry course. The aptitude-treatment interactions between students' level of mastery goal orientation and the concept mapping with explanation feedback treatment were also examined. Sixty-seven freshmen from an university of education were assigned to a control group and a treatment group. The tests of mastery goal orientation, science anxiety, and science learning motivation were administered as pretests. For the treatment group, feedback providing students with explanatory comments through whole class discussion was presented after each concept mapping. Whereas the control group students were presented with opportunities solving excercise problems followed by explanation feedback. The intervention was lasted for 10 weeks (30 class periods). After the instructions, a researcher-made achievement test, the science learning anxiety test, and the science learning motivation test were administered. The results indicated that no statistically significant difference was found in students' achievement. In the science learning anxiety, however, the scores of the treatment group was significantly lower than those of the control group. The scores of the treatment group also tended to be higher, though not significant, than those of the control group in the science learning motivation. However, no significant aptitude-treatment interactions were found in all dependent variables.

An Effect of Health Promotion Program on Health Behavior, Perceived health Status and Life Satisfaction in the Elderly (건강증진프로그램이 노인의 건강행위, 지각된 건강상태 및 생활만족도에 미치는 효과)

  • Purpose: This study is designed to develop a health promotion program for improvement of health status by means of a change of life-style and health behavior in the elderly. The purpose of this study is to provide a basis for nursing intervention strategies to promote health behaviors. Method: The health promotion program consisted of health education, group discussion, emotional support, health and telephone counsel. As a quasi-experimental design, the none-quivalent control group pretest-posttest design was utilized for this study. The subjects of this study consisted of 50 people, over 60 years of age attending 2 senior colleges in S city. They were divided into two groups: 24 in the experimental group and 26 in the control group. Data was collected from July 2, 2001 to August 21, 2001. For the analysis, SPSS PC 10.0 Window version was adopted and descriptive analysis, ${\chi}^2-test$, t-test, paired t-test, MANOVA were used for data analysis. Result: The health behavior and life satisfaction of the elderly improved significantly (F=18.305, p=.000 ; F=17.478, p=.000). But there is no significant difference in the perceived health status(F=3.807, p=.057). Conclusion: The health promotion program is confirmed as proper to promote the health in the elderly. In addition, assessment and support will be simultaneously done to manage the health of the elderly. Finally this study supports intervention for the elderly and provides a basis for further investigations.

The Difficulties Experienced by the Novice Elementary School Teachers in the Mathematics Classes (초등학교 초임교사들이 수학수업에서 겪는 어려움)

  • The purpose of this paper was to investigate the difficulties experienced by the novice elementary school teachers in the mathematics classes and suggest some implications for teacher education and effective adaptation of novice teachers. The researchers observed mathematics lessons of 6 novice elementary school teachers and interviewed on the difficulties that they experience in teaching mathematics. The data were collected by lesson observations, interviews, discussion and email communications and categorized the data the types of difficulties those the teachers experience. The difficulties were difference between theory and practice, explanation, questioning, differentiated lesson, application of teaching method, evaluation, and understanding of mathematics. The implication from this study is that novice teachers need to supported by the administration as well as actively participate at various types of educational meetings.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to develop and implement the Hospice Smart Patient Program and to evaluate its effectiveness. Methods: It was quasi-experimental non-equivalent pre-post study. Breast cancer patients who underwent surgery, chemotherapy or radiotherapy, or who needed palliative care, participated in the study. Participants were divided into two groups, experimental and control groups based on their preferences. The program was developed after literature review and discussion among experts on hospice and palliative care. Participants who were in the experimental group received either face-to-face or phone "Hospice Smart Patient" Service at least once a week for 5 months. Results: There was a significant difference in quality of life and communication skill between the two groups after the service was provided. In addition, participants in experimental group showed improved decision making skills, mastery sense, and understanding of hospice and palliative care, which would be beneficial in improving their quality of life. Conclusion: We have concluded that the "Hospice Smart Patient" Program is useful for cancer patients in decision making, improving self-control and choosing hospice care to improve their quality of life.

The characteristics and treatment results of squamous cell carcinomas of oral tongue (구강설에 발생한 편평상피세포암의 특성과 치료효과)

  • Introduction: The characteristics of oral tongue squamous cell carcinomas (SCC) and the treatment results were reviewed to determine the appropriate treatment strategies. Materials and Methods: The medical records of 140 patients diagnosed and treated for oral tongue SCC at Yonsei University Health System from January 1995 to December 2004 were reviewed. For statistic analysis, the survival rate was determined using the Kaplan-Meier method with SPSS version 12.0, and the difference in survival rates was evaluated using a log-rank test. Results: The mean age of the patients with oral tongue SCC patients was 55 (19-85 years old). According to the T, N and pathologic stage, the patients were distributed from a higher to a lower incidence of cases, as follows: T2 (46.4%), T1 (37.9%), T4 (8.5%), and T3 (7.1%); N0 (65%), N1 (20.7%), N2 (13.6%), and N3 (0.7%); and stage I (31.4%), stage II(25.7%), stage IV (22.2%), and stage III (20.7%). Local and regional recurrence and distant metastasis was present in 13.6%, 5% and 4.2% of patients, respectively. The five-year survival rate was 72.2%, and the prognostic factors for oral tongue SCC included neck metastasis, pathologic stage of the disease, cell differentiation, treatment modality, neck dissection as part of the treatment plan, and neck node recurrence. Discussion: It is suggested that ipsilateral neck dissection or bilateral neck dissection should be selected as a treatment of tongue SCC patients with advanced stage.

The Relativity between the Circulating Pattern of the Channels, the Collaterals, and the Movement Distinction of YoungGi, and WiGi (경맥(經脈)과 락맥(絡脈)의 순행(循行) 양식(樣式)과 영.위기(營.衛氣)의 운행(運行) 특징(特徵)의 상관성(相觀性)에 대한 고찰(考察))

  • Analyzed the subject of ‘To heart' meridian system(向心服系), and 'Circulating' meridian system(備環服系), and considered relativity between the circulating pattern of the channels, the collaterals and the circulating distinction YoungGi (營氣), WiGi(衛氣). The subject of 'To heart' meridian system is WiGi, and this system is similiar to the moving pattern of the fifteen major collaterals(十五絡服). The subject of 'Circulating' meridian system is YoungGi, and this system is same with the moving pattern of the twelve regular channels(十二經脈). YoungGi and WiGi have the same origin, and they are intrinsic one thing with functional ambivalency. It is WiGi, the subject of the movement of Collateral, because it is identical the moving pattern of Collaterals(絡服) and that of WiGi as the subject of the movement of Collateral. It is YoungGi, the subject of movement of Channel because it is identical the moving pattern of Channels(經服) and that of YoungGi. It can be defined that Wigi as the subject of the movement of Collateral, also YoungGi as the subject of movement of Channel, but that is from i 염 function and action, there's no need to be separated within the framework of going through Meridian. YoungSuBosa(迎隨補鴻) in acupuncture, defines its basis not only on the moving direction of YoungGi, but on combinated difference between the directions, moments, and sex. Until now it is under discussion the rights and wrongs, It's not contradictory concept between two basis of YoungSuBoSa, from the thought the distinct movement of WiGi and the circulation pattern of Collaterals have no specified directions.

Effect of Structured Debriefing on the Learning Outcomes of Nursing Students in Simulation-based Education (간호대학생의 시뮬레이션기반 교육 시 구조화된 디브리핑 유형이 학습성과에 미치는 효과)

  • The study investigates how the structured debriefing method affects the learning flow, critical thinking disposition, and clinical performance of nursing students, using the Lasater Clinical Judgment Rubric (LCJR). Nursing students in the 4th grade of P University were divided into three groups, each trying out a different structured debriefing method: the experimental group - structured video debriefing using the LCJR question, the comparative group - structured oral debriefing, and the control group - structured group discussion debriefing. There was no significant difference between the three groups in learning flow (p=.640), critical thinking disposition (p=.420) and clinical performance ability (p=.360). Planning and intervention among the areas of clinical performance were significantly improved in the experimental group compared to the other two groups (p=.005). Structured debriefing when used with LCJR improves the learning flow and critical thinking disposition of students, while structured video debriefing improves clinical performance.

A Chatter Bot for a Task-Oriented Dialogue System (목적지향 대화 시스템을 위한 챗봇 연구)

  • Chatter bots are normally used in task-oriented dialogue systems to support free conversations. However, there is not much research on how chatter bots as auxiliary system should be different from independent ones. In this paper, we have developed a chatter bot for a dialogue-based computer assisted language learning (DB-CALL) system. We compared the chatter bot in two different cases: as an independent bot, and as an auxiliary system. The results showed that, the chatter bot as an auxiliary system showed much lower satisfaction than the independent one. A discussion is held about the difference between an auxiliary chatter bot and an independent bot. In addition, we evaluated a search-based chatter bot and a deep learning based chatter bot. The advantages and disadvantages of both methods are discussed.

  • There are situations in e-commerce that are altogether new and to which the existing rules cannot apply. The uncertainty and business risk is too high for trading partners to deal with certainty. Therefore existing law must be changed to e-commerce law so that it provides certainty and enforceability in the e-commerce. Legal rules applying to the commerce and international commerce, in particular, contracts, proper law, jurisdiction and so on, have improved with time and experience. It has been found that the problems arising in the context of e-contracting were due to the absence of experience in electronic contracting and an absence of knowledge on how best to solve the problems. Thus, UNCITRAL Working Group on Electronic Commerce held an extensive discussion on issues related to electronic contracting and prepared and revised the Preliminary Draft Convention on International Contracts Concluded or Evidenced by Data Message from the thirty-ninth session in 2002 and prepared the Draft Convention from forty-first session which applies to international contracts concluded or evidenced by means of data messages. An electronic contract is concluded when the acceptance of an offer becomes effective, and an offer becomes effective when it is received by the offeree, and an acceptance of an offer becomes effective when the indication of assent is received by the offeror according to this Convention. Electronic contract may be concluded by the interaction of an automated computer system and natural person or by the interaction of automated computer systems, and a contract formed by a natural person that accesses an automated computer system of another person has no legal effect in case the neutral person made a material error in a data message. The purpose of this paper is to raise the understanding of the Convention on the Electronic Contracting by studying the contents of Draft Convention on Electronic Contracting and comparing Draft Convention with preliminary Draft Convention and finding the difference, characteristics and problem.
