Bismuth(Bi) nanoparticles were synthesized at room temperature by a modified polyol process using bismuth(III) carbonate basic as precursor. In addition, some characteristics of the synthesis with respect to the exchange of a capping agent/surface stabilizer and solvent type were observed. When polyvinylpyrroldone was added, the finest Bi nanoparticles were synthesized in diethylene glycol(DEG), while the coarsest nanoparticles were formed in polyethylene glycol(PEG). The particle size immediately after synthesis was proportionate to final particle size which was determined by particle growth through coalescence and aggregation during drying. As a result, the finest Bi particles with the diameter range of several tens of nanometers - 300 nm were finally obtained in DEG. Regardless of the type of capping agent/surface stabilizer, extensive coalescence and aggregation behavior occurred in PEG, resulting in final products agglomerated with coarse particles.
Ibuprofen is one of the nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAID) and has shown antiinflammatory; antipyretic, and analgesic activity in both animals and humans. But it causes gastric mucosal abnormalities including edema, erythema, and submucosal petechial hemorrhages and erosin in human. In addition, based on the pharmaceutical point of view the compression and dissolution ability of ibuprofen is known as poor. Therefore we studied to develop novel formulation containing water-insoluble drug, ibuprofen, using microemulsion consisting of surfactant, oil phase, and water phase was prepared for the purpose of increasing its bioavilability The physicochemical properties such as particle size, dissolution rate, solubility of ibuprofen in the system were determined. After oral administration of ibuprofen containing the microemulsion system, to Sprague-Dawley rats, pharmacokinetic parameters were also obtained. For the formulation in the study, oleic acid, linoleic acid, and several kinds of glycerides and triglycerides were used as an oil phase with several surfactants. Diethylene glycol monoethyl ether (Transcuto $l^{ }$) or saturated polyglycolized glycerides (Labrafil $^{ }$)as surfactant was used, the domain of microemulsion was wide. The diameter of o/w microemulsion was ranged from 90 to 220 nm. Microemulsion, prepared with unsatulated polyglycolized glycerides (Labrafil $^{ }$) and the 2 : 1 molar mixture of diethylene glycol monoethyl ether (Transcuto $l^{ }$)/polyoxyethylene(4) lauryl ether (Bri $j^{ }$ 30) , is expected to be promising system that increased the bioavilability of ibuprofen.ibuprofen.

This study concerned about "Gemini type co-surfactant" which has very interesting properties with new components. They were synthesized by reaction of diethylene glycol monoethyl ether and dicarboxylic acid. The structure could be comfirmed with FT-IR and $^1H$-NMR. Surface active properties such as surface tension, evaluated cmc, cloud point, emulsing power were measured respectively at given conditions. Their surface tensions in the aqueous solution were decreased to 33~35 dyne/cm, which was lower than 39 dyne/cm of SDS, and their cmc values evaluated by surface tension method were $5.0{\times}10^{-1}\sim7.5{\times}10^{-1}$ mol/L. And the emulsifying power was excellent in jojoba oil. All of the synthesized Gemini surfactants possessed good water solubility and their cloud point were $48\sim58^{\circ}C$. As results, Gemini surfactants which were synthesized are expected to be applied as O/W emulsifiers.
The solubility and stability of quercetin in various vehicles were determined. The solubility of quercetin at $28^{\circ}C$ increased in the rank order of isopropyl myristate < oleyl alcohol < propylene glycol monolaurate < oleoyl macrogol6 glycerides < linoleoyl macrogol-6 glycerides < propylene glycol laurate (PGL) < propylene glycol monocaprylate (PGMC) < polyethylene glycol-8 glyceryl linoleate < caprylocaproyl macrogol-6 glycerides < diethylene glycol mono ethyl ether (DGME). The addition of DGME to non-aqueous vehicles such as PGL ad PGMC markedly increased the solubility of quercetin. From the stability studies, it was found that quercetin was unstable due to rapid oxidation by dissoved oxygen. The addition of a combination of ascorbic acid and edetic acid (EDTA) at 0.1 % markedly decreased the degradation rates of quercetin in 40% polyethylene glycol 400 in saline. Quercetin was relatively unstable in non-aqueous vehicles such as PGL and PGMC alone, and PGL-PGMC co-solvent The degradation of quercetin in such non-aqueous vehicles was fast, depending on temperature. The addition of butylated, hydroxytoluene, butylated hydroxyanisole, citric acid and/or EDTA at 0.1 % was effective in retarding the degradation of quercetin.
In order to investigate the degradation behavior of PET fabrics, sodium diethylene glycolate (SDEG)-diethylene glycol (DEG) solutions were prepared and PET fabrics were treated in the solution. The dissolution rate constant and apparent activation energy of the PET fabrics were calculated by Eyring's and Arrhenius's equation respectively and measured dyeing properties, moisture and antistatic properties. Then compared SDEG-treated fabrics with NaOH-treated. The results were as follows; 1. PET fabrics decreased their weight in SDEG-DEG solution, and the decreasing rate showed a linear relationship to the treating time at constant temperature and concentration of SDEG-DEG solution. 2. The dissolution rate constant showed a linear relationship to the concentration of SDEGDEG solution and an exponential relationship to treating temperature. 3. Apparent activation energy of dissolution was 23.45 kcal/mol. 4. The K/S values and the ΔL values of fabrics treated with SDEG-DEG solution are higher and lower respectively than fabrics treated with NaOH. 5. SDEG-DEG solution treatment improved fabric's moisture regain and it reached almost maximum at about 40% weight loss. 6. In the both reagent the light, wet and sublimation fastness of fabrics are similar. 7. SDEG-DEG solution gave more electrical discharge effect to the fabrics than that of NaOH. 8. NaOH treated PET microfiber have crater-like surface, while SDEG-DEG solution give bathochromic effect to the PET microfiber because which has wrinkles on the surface.

To investigate the plating properties of a diethylene glycol-based Ag immersion plating solution containing citric acid, silver immersion plating was performed in a range from room temperature to $50^{\circ}C$ using sputtered Cu specimens. The used Cu specimens possessed surface structure with large numbers of pinholes which were created with over-acid etching. The Ag immersion plating performed at $40^{\circ}C$ exhibited that the pinholes and copper surface were completely filled with Ag just after 5 min mainly due to galvanic displacement reaction, indicating the best plating properties. Subsequently, the surface morphology of Ag-coated Cu became rougher as the plating time increased to 30 min because of the deposition of silver nanoparticles created by chemical reduction in the solution. The specimen that its overall surface was covered with silver indicated the start of oxidation at temperature higher than around $50^{\circ}C$ in air as compared with pure Cu, indicating enhanced anti-oxidation properties.
The effects of vehicles and penetration enhancers on the in vitro permeation of melatonin through dorsal hairless mouse skin were investigated. Propylene glycol laurate (PGL), isopropyl myristate (IPM), propylene glycol monolaurate (PGML) and propylene glycol monocaprylate (PGMC) showed high permeation fluxes and PGL, PGML and PGMC decreased lag time significantly. In both of the binary co-solvents of diethylene glycol monoethyl ether (DGME)-PGL and DGME-IPM, the highest fluxes were achieved at 20% of DGME, which were $10.5{\pm}1.5$ and $9.1{\pm}2.4{\;}{\mu\textrm{g}}/cm^2/h$, respectively. Among fatty acids used as a permeation enhancer, capric acid and oleic acid in DGME-PGL (80:20 v/v) showed relatively high enhancing effects. Capric acid also shortened the lag time of melatonin from $2.4{\pm}0.7{\;}to{\;}1.3{\pm}0.2{\;}h$. Oleic acid, however, failed to shorten the lag time. Therefore, for effective solution formulations in terms of permeation flux and lag time, capric acid-containing DGME-PGL (80 : 20 v/v) could be used to enhance the skin permeation of melatonin.

A gas chromatography/mass spectrometric assay method was developed for the simultaneous determination of ethylene glycol monomethyl ether (EGME) and diethylene glycol monomethyl ether (DEGME) in spilled aviation fuels. Ethylene glycol monobutyl ether (EGBE) and ethylene glycol monoethyl ether (EGEE) were used as internal standard and surrogate, respectively. The sample preparation consists of back-extraction with 7 mL of methylene chloride after extraction of 50 mL of fuel with 2 mL of water. The extract was concentrated to dryness and dissolved with 100L of methanol and analyzed by CC-MS (SIM). The peaks had good chromatographic properties by using semi-polar column and the extraction of these compounds from fuel also gave high recoveries of 75 and 85 % with small variations for EGME and DEGME, respectively. Method detection limits were 1.3 ng/mL for EGME and 1.0 ng/mL for DEGME in spilled fuel. The method may be useful for fuel-type differentiation between kerosene and JP-8, which may originate from the storage tank.

A green procedure is described for the preparation of a series of ionic liquids where two 3-methylimidazolium cations were bridged with ethylene glycol chain as linkers. Diethylene glycol-bis(3-methylimidazolium) ditosylate, triethylene glycolbis(3-methylimidazolium) ditosylate, and tetraethylene glycol-bis(3-methylimidazolium) ditosylate were heated with 3-methylimidazole under solvent-free condition to give the corresponding bis(3-methylimidazolium) ditosylate ionic liquids efficiently in a short time.
This paper investigates the effect of oxygen composition in mixed fuel on the exhaust emissions for the direct injection diesel engine. These effects were tested to estimate the change in engine performance and exhaust emission characteristics when commercial diesel fuel and oxygenates blended fuels at a certain fuel and mixed ratio are used. Individual hydrocarbons $(C_1-C_6)$ in exhaust gases, as well as the total amount of hydrocarbons, were analyzed by using gas chromatography to find the mechanism by which smoke emission was remarkably reduced for various oxygenated fuels. The chromatograms between a diesel fuel and a diesel fuel blended DGM (diethylene glycol dimethyl ether), MTBE (methyl tert-butyl ether) and EGBE (ethylene glycol mono-n-butyl ether) were compared. The results showed that the number of individual hydrocarbons as well as the total number of hydrocarbons of oxygenated fuel reduced more remarkably than those of diesel fuel.
