The transesterification reaction between diethanolamine and methyl-methacrylate was kinetically investigated in the presence of various metal acetate catalysts at $120^{\circ}C$. The quantity of methylmethacrylate reacted in the reaction flask was measured by gas chromatography and liquid chromatography, and the reaction rate was investigated by measuring of the quantity of products and reactnts under various catalysts. The transesterification reaction was carried out in the first order reaction kinetics with respect to the concentration of diethanolamine and methylmethacrylate, respectively. The apparent rate constant was found to obey first-order kinetics with respect to the concentration of catalyst. The linear relationship was shown between apparent rate constant and reciprocal absolute temperature, and by the Arrhenius plot, the activation energy has been calculated as 11.08 Kcal with zinc acetate catalyst, 17.99 Kcal without catalyst. The maximum reaction rate was appeared at the range of 1.4 to 1.6 of electronegativity of metal ions and instability constant of metal acetates.
Fragmentations and proton transfer reactions of mono-, di-, and triethanolamines were studied using FTMS. It was found that the most abundant fragment ion was $[M-CH_2OH]^+$. The $[M-CH_2OH-H_2O]^+$ was observed in the mass spectra of diethanolamine and triethanolamine. By increasing the ion trapping time in the ICR cell, the $[M+H]^+$ and $[M+H-H_2O]^+$ ions were notably increased for all the samples while the $[M+H-2H_2O]^+$ was observed in the mass spectra of diethanolamine and triethanolamine. The proton transfer reactions between the fragment ions and neutral molecules occurred predominantly by increasing the ion trapping time. The rate constants for the proton transfer reactions were calculated from experimental results. The proton transfer reaction of $CHO^+$ was the fastest one, which is consistent with the heats of reaction. The rate constants for proton transfer reactions of triethanolamine were much slower than those of ethanolamine and diethanolamine because of the steric hindered structure of triethanolamine. The plausible structures of observed ions and heats of reaction for proton transfer were calculated with AM1 semiempirical method.

Transesterification reactions (methyl methacrylate with diethanolamine, ethylene glycol with dimethylphthalate) were kinetically investigated in the presence of zinc compound catalysts at $120{\sim}170^{\circ}C$ The amount of reactants was measured by gas chromatography. and the reaction rates also measured from the amount of reaction products and reactants upon each catalyst. The transesterification reactions were carried out under the first order conditions respect to the concentration of reactants, respectively, The overall reaction order was 2nd. The apparent rate constant (k') was found to obey first kinetics with respect to the concentration of catalyst. It shows that according to an increase in basicity of anionic species the rate constant increase, and that a linear relationship exists between ln k and pKa in transesterification reaction of methyl methacrylate with diethanolamine.

Alkali silicate system has wide application to accelerating admixture for shotcrete, but it has several problems that decrease long-term strength and delay setting time. So alkali-free system was gradually focused on accelerating admixtures for shotcrete due to its environmental property. The aim of this study is to investigate effect of alkali-free accelerating admixtures on aluminum sulfate system containing diethanolamine or acrylic acid etc. The alkali-free accelerating admixture has better properties than silicate system accelerating admixtures on compressive strength and low pH as shotcrete. Especially, the compressive strength of alkali-free accelerating admixture containing diethanolamine was increased about 10% compared with the value of ordinary portland cement.

This paper reports on an experimental study of the absorption of COS in a secondary amine diethanolamine. The primary objectives were to investigate an analogy between $N_2$O and COS, thereby allowing an estimation of the physical solubility and diffusivity of the sulfur gases in the reacting amine solutions. The solubilities and diffusivities of $N_2$O and COS in 5~25% aqueous polyethylene glycol at $25^{\circ}C$ were measured. The results appeared to verify the use of an $N_2$O-COS analogy for estimating the solubility and diffusivity of COS in aqueous solutions of alkanolamines up to an approximate 25 weight % concentration. The mean deviation of the $N_2$O analogy relative to the measured solubilities was 3.7%, and the mean deviation between the analogy and the measured diffusion coefficients using the experimental values for Hcos/PEG was 14.6%.

This study was conducted to estimate if the level of several chemical ingredients including alkanolamines or ethanolamines (EA) examined in the specific synthetic metalworking fluid (MWF) ‘A’ can cause anti-microbial activity and health effect. Three water-based MWF products (‘A’, ‘B’, and ‘C’) were studied every week for two months. Chemical ingredients such as formaldehyde, boron, EA, and copper were examined. In the sump where MWF ‘A’ was used, not only the total level of EA, monoethanolamine(MEA), diethanolamine(DEA) and triethanolamine(TEA), but also boron level were significantly higher than those of the other MWFs. ANOVA statistical tests indicated that levels of pH, alkalinity, boron, MEA, DEA and TEA in MWF ‘A’ were significantly higher than those in other MWF types. Correlation tests also found that levels of pH, alkalinity, boron, MEA, DEA and TEA in MWF ‘A’ are significantly correlated. We suggested the assumptions that excessive concentrations of EA, and borate at a high pH level, may cause anti-microbial resistance synergically. To demonstrate this assumption, additional study is needed to examine the relationship between the levels of microbes and excessive concentrations of EA, and borate at a high pH level.
Cadmium selenide (CdSe) nanoparticles with the diameter of about 3.4nm have been synthesized from the mixed aqueous solution of distilled water and diethanolamine at room temperature. The cadmium chloride ($CdCl_2$), sodium selenosulfate ($Na_2SeSO_3$) were used as the cadmium and selenium source, respectively. The properties of CdSe nanoparticles were characterized by using transmission electron microscopy (TEM), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), X-ray diffraction (XRD) and UV-Vis measurements. CdSe nanoparticles were analyzed to be cubic phase with the absorption excition peaks between 540 and 600 nm. CdSe nanoparticles also showed red-shifted excition peaks with increasing the sonication time. This paper mainly presents the sonication effects on the formation of CdSe nanoparticles prepared from the mixed aqueous solution of distilled water and diethanolamine.
This study was conducted to estimate if the level of several chemical ingredients including alkanolamines or ethanolamines (EA) examined in the specific synthetic metalworking fluid (MWF) "A" can cause anti-microbial activity and health effect. Three water-based MWF products ("A", "B", and "C") were studied every week for two months (from June 1, 2002 to July 30, 2002). Chemical ingredients such as formaldehyde, boron, EA, and copper were examined. In the sump where MWF "A" was used, not only the total level of EA, monoethanolamine(MEA), diethanolamine(DEA) and triethanolamine(TEA), but also boron level were significantly higher than those of the other MWFs. ANOVA statistical tests indicated that levels of pH, alkalinity, boron, MEA, DEA and TEA in MWF "A" were significantly higher than those in other MWF types. Correlation tests also found that levels of pH, alkalinity, boron, MEA, DEA and TEA in MWF "A" are significantly correlated. To demonstrate this assumption, additional study is needed to examine the relationship between the levels of microbes and excessive concentrations of EA, and borate at a high pH level.
An experimental study of the absorption of CS$_{2}$ in the secondary amine diethanolamine(DEA) was performed in this work. The primary objectives were to investigate an analogy between N2O and CS$_{2}$ permitting estimation of the physical solubility and diffusivity of the sulfur gases in the reacting amino solutions. The solubilities of CS$_{2}$ in water at 25, 40 and 6$0^{\circ}C$ has been measured. The data show fair agreement with previous literature values. The solubility of CS$_{2}$ in 5-25 weight % polyethylene glycol has been measured in order to investigate a possible analogy between CS$_{2}$ and N$_{2}$O The diffusivities of CS$_{2}$ in water and the reaction rate between CS$_{2}$ and DEA has been measured at 25 and 4$0^{\circ}C$, using a wetted sphere apparatus operated at approximately 1/3 atmospheres pressure, which is a previously untried method.
