직접분사식 디젤기관 배기배출물 저감을 위한 연소인자의 최적화 (An Optimization of the Combustion Parameters for Reducing Exhaust Emissions in a Direct Injection Diesel Engine)

  • This study is to develop the diesel engine which has 6 cylinder natural aspiration direct injection type of 7.4$\ell$ with high performance, low emissions and low fuel consumption Finally the developed engine meets Korean `98 exhaust emission regulation for the city bus of heavy duty diesel engine by optimizing the various combustion parameters affecting performance and exhaust emissions. Combustion parameters are the swirl ratio of intake ports, the profile of injection pump`s cam affecting injection pressure, the design features of piston bowl of injection pump`s cam affecting injection pressure, the design features of piston bowl of combustion chamber and injector`s hole size. Through experimental analysis, various combustion parameters are optimized and the results are as follows; the swirl ratio is 2.20, the profile of injection pump`s cam is concave and re-entrant ratio, inner diameter of piston bowl and hole diameter of injector is 0.88,$\psi$64.0mm and $\psi$0.25mm respectively.

  • This research investigated variations of the engine performance and the exhaust emission characteristic of a direct injection diesel engine by fueling a commercial diesel fuel, which was blended with the di-ether group (butyl-ether: BE). The smoke emission reduced to 26% from the diesel engine with the blending fuel (diesel fuel 80 vol-% + BE 20 vol-%)at the full engine load of 2500 rpm compared to it with the diesel fuel only. The power, torque and brake specific energy consumption of the diesel engine showed very slight differences. The NOx emission from the diesel engine, however, with the blended fuel was higher than with the commercial diesel fuel only. By applying EGR method, as a counter plan of the NOx reduction, this research obtained reductions of the smoke and NOx emission at the same time from the diesel engine with the BE blended diesel fuel.

  • In this study an experimental research has been conducted to reduce NOx and smoke emission from diesel engine exhaust gas simultaneously by application of corona discharge type electrostatic precipitator(ESP). The ESP was installed between exhaust gas silencer and outlet terminal of exhaust gas system. The operating conditions as input parameters taken in this experiment were corona power input, gas velocity and equivalence ratio of gas. It was found that the corona discharge type ESP has notable effect on reducing smoke in exhaust gas but appeared to bring slight effect on reducing NOx.

  • The post injection effect to enhance aftertreatment devices' performance is essential to meet future stringent emission standards by controlling exhaust gas temperature and emission pollutants.   • A study on the performance and exhaust emissions of diesel engine with reducing exhaust gas temperature is performed experimentally. In this paper, experiments are performed at engine speed 2200rpm, 2600rpm and load 0%, 25%, 50%, 75% and 100% by test engine with F.W. cooler passing through exhaust gas. Main measured & analyzed parameters are exhaust gas temperature, specific fuel consumption, NOx and soot emissions etc. The obtained conclusions are as follows. (1) Specific fuel consumption is the least value at load 75% and it is decreased 1.5% after remodeling F.W. cooler. (2) NOx emission is the most value at load 100% and it is increased 30.1% after remodeling F.W. cooler. (3) Soot emission is the most value at load 100% and it is decreased 20.0% after remodeling F.W. cooler.

  • Objectives: The aims of this study are to derive the characteristics of diesel exhaust gas emissions generated during vehicle checking in the garage of fire stations and of the related improvement plans for proper air quality management. Methods: The researcher measured changes in the air quality inside garages according to the operating conditions of the exhaust facility and before and after vehicle checking at three fire stations. Results: During the checking of fire engines, a large volume of hazardous substances exceeding management standards were generated, and improvement of the discharge facilities was required for proper air quality management. Conclusions: It is necessary to study the hazard evaluation of firefighters' exposure to exhaust gas, to operate exhaust gas ventilation facilities, and to prepare technical standards for proper indoor air quality management.

COMBUSTION CHARACTERISTICS OF ESTERIFIED RICE BRAN OIL AS AN ALTERNATIVE FUEL IN A DIESEL ENGINE

  • The smoke emission of diesel engines is being recognized as one of the major source of the air pollution problems. This study investigates the potential of esterified rice bran oil to reduce smoke emission as an alternative fuel for diesel engines. Because the esterified rice bran oil has approximately a 10.5% oxygen content, the combustion of the diesel engine improved and exhaust smoke decreased. Gas chromatography was used to analyze not only the total amount of hydrocarbon but also the amount of hydrocarbon components from $C_1$ to $C_6$ in the exhaust gas to determine an exact source responsible for the remarkable reduction in the smoke emission. The number of individual hydrocarbon($C_1{\sim}C_6$) as well as the total amount of hydrocarbon of esterified rice bran oil reduced significantly compared to that of hydrocarbon of diesel fuel.

바이오디젤유를 사용하는 디젤기관에서 연료분사시기 변화에 따른 기관성능 및 배기배출물 특성 (Effect of Fuel Injection Timing on the Performance and Exhaust Emissions in IDI Diesel Engine Using Biodiesel Fuel)

  • Biodiesel fuel(BDF) which is easily produced from vegetable oils such as soybean oil and rice bran oil can be effectively used as an alternative fuel in diesel engine. However, BDF can affect the performance and emissions in diesel engine because it has different chemical and physical properties from diesel fuel. To investigate the effects of injection timing on the characteristics of performance and emissions with BDF in IDI diesel engine, BDF derived from rice bran oil was considered in this study. The engine was operated at six different injection timings and six loads at a single engine speed of 2000rpm. When the injection timing was retarded, better results were obtained, which may confirm the advantage of BDF. The reduction of NOx and smoke was observed for a 2$^{\circ}$ retarded injection timing without any sacrifice of BSEC.

  • Improvements in internal combustion engine and aftertreatment technologies are needed to meet future environmental quality goals. Plasmatron fuel converters provide a rapid response, compact means to transform a wide range of hydrocarbon fuels (including gasoline, natural gas and diesel fuel) into hydrogen-rich gas. Hydrogen-rich gas can be used as an additive to provide NOx reductions of more than 80% in diesel engine vehicles by enabling very lean operation or heavy exhaust engine recirculation. For diesel engines, use of compact plasmatron reformers to produce hydrogen-rich gas for the regeneration of NOx absorber/absorbers and particulate traps for diesel engine exhaust after-treatment could provide significant advantages. Recent tests of conversion of diesel fuel to hydrogen-rich gas using a low current plasmatron fuel converter with non-equilibrium plasma features are described.

  • The effects of premixed fuels(diesel or n-heptane) and exhaust gas recirculation on combustion and exhaust emission characteristics in a DI diesel engine were experimentally investigated. To improve homogeneity of fuel-air mixture in the conventional diesel engine, the premixed fuel is injected by high pressure(5.5 MPa) into the premixing chamber prior to engine cylinder, And several additional systems such as an EGR system, air heating system and back pressure control system were equipped in the DI diesel engine. The results showed that premixed fuel-air mixture undergoes typical HCCI combustion prior to the combustion of DI diesel fuel. The ignition timing of HCCI combustion is delayed by application of EGR, and it also shows that HCCI combustion can be controlled by an EGR.
