Slot coating has been wide spread in photo-resist coating on the glass for liquid crystal display. Die in slot coater consists of manifold and land. Material comes in inlet of the die and flow into the manifold and then flow out through the land. The coating thickness variations along the die length depend upon inside of die design such as manifold and die land. However the coating thickness variations along the moving direction(coating direction) of the coater depend upon the operational conditions of coater as well as die lip design. The coating behaviors including atmospheric air have been investigated in this study. Die geometries considered in this study were nozzle gap and length of the die lip. Coating gap and coating speed were the variables fur coating operational conditions. When the nozzle gap and length of die lip increased climbing effect of PR on the downstream die lip was reduced. Subsequently uniformity of coating thickness improved. Uniformity of coating thickness also enhanced as coating gap and coater speed increased. The uniformity of coating gap was related to the velocity vector distributions on the coating surface.
The die wear is one of the main factors affecting die accuracy and tool lifetime. It is desired to reduce die wear by developing simulation method to predict wear based on process variables, and then optimizing the process. Therefore, this paper describes methodology of preform design for minimizing wear of finisher die in multi-stage cold forging processes. The finite element method is combined with the routine of wear prediction. The cold forging process is analyzed using developed simulation method. In order to obtain preform to minimize die wear, the Flexible Polyhedron Search(FPS) algorithm is used. The optimal preform shape is found from iterative deformation analysis and wear calculation.
Die design to minimize the die wear in the cold forging process is very important as it reduce the production cost and the increase of the production rate. The quantitative estimation for the die wear is too hard because the prediction of the die wear is determined with many process variables. So, in this paper, the optimal shape of the backward extrusion punch is newly designed through the FE-analysis considering the surface expansion and Archard's wear model in order to reduce the rapid wear rate that is generated for the backward extrusion product exceeding the forming limit. The main shape variables of the backward extrusion punch are the flat, angle, and round of the punch nose part. As the flat and angle of the punch nose are larger, the surface expansion is reduced. and, the wear rate is decreased according to the reduction of the punch round. These results obtained through this study are applied to the real manufacturing process, it is implemented the reduction of the wear rate.

The very big springback of advanced high strength steel(AHSS) sheets invokes undesired shape defects, which can be generally eliminated by die correction or process parameter control. The springback reduction by controlling the forming process parameters is easy for the application, but limited for the bulky achievement. In this study, the effective die correction method, which obtains the modification of tool shape from the relationship between die design variable and springback, is introduced and is applied to the TWB tool of automotive side rail to show the validity and usefulness. Among the die correction trials repeatedly performed, the first trial is carried out by correcting the tool shape to the opposite direction to the springbacks of several tool sections. Next trials are done by extrapolating the springbacks of among the original tool uncorrected and the tools corrected negative amounts of the springback and by finding tool shapes without springbacks. After the angle of side wall and radius of curvature of horizontal bottom floor are chosen as design variables in the tool design of side rail, the tool shape is corrected 3 times. The accuracy of final shape within the assembly limit of 1mm and the springback reduction of 75.8% compared to the uncorrected tool are achieved.
In order to study the shearing characteristics of anti-vibration sheet metal which has been bonded by resin, a blanking die of 40.02mm was manufactured to blank a material and it is used to reduce vibrational noise. The variables employed in this study were 1) Clearance 2) types of stripper plate, and 3) types of the die design technique. These variables were used to study the effects on burr height, diameter of product, and camber height. Lastly, the effect of the position of the rubber during blanking was observed. In the case of burr height from experimental investigation, the push-back die, combined with a movable stripper plate, resulted in the concentration of additional pressure between the cutting edges, meaning the crack initiation was delayed. This result was not affected by lubrication, although appropriate lubrication is preferred to enable a longer lasting die in terms of wear, which results from the presence of adhesive as the sheet metal is blanked. In the comparison of diameter measurement, the push-back die, combined with the back pressure from the knock-out plate showed a favorable precision. The use of the push back die with a fixed stripper plate, with a $4.5\%$ clearance, showed better accuracy in the diameter measurement. For comparing camber height, the push back die resulted in less cambering than the drop-through die. Also, the larger the clearance, the greater was the camber height. Considering experimental results, the shearing of anti-vibrational sheet metal is best achieved when the rubber is laying on the top, blanked with a fixed-stripper plate in a push-back die, with a $4.5\%$ clearance.

The multi-action forging process is one of developing directions of forging technologies. In this study, the multi-action die is designed and developed by the screws mechanism and the forging simulation is conducted by using plasticine to investigate the optimum conditions for the design of the screws. The results show the design variables are optimum when the diameter is 30 mm and the screw angle is $60^{\circ}$ for the upper screw rod and the outer diameter is 60 mm and the screw angle is $23.4^{\circ}$ for the lower screw tube. It makes the relative velocity between the upper punch and the die to be two to one, which is the expected condition. The material flow of the plasticine forgings is uniform. Therefore, it is feasible to use the screw set as the multi-action mechanism for controlling the movement of the multi-action forging die set.

The deformation under radial pressure of rectangular dies for metal powder compaction has been investigated by FEM. The explored variables have been: aspect ratio of die profile, ratio between diagonal of the profile and die height, insert and ring thickness, radius at die corners, interference, different insert materials, i. e. conventional HSS, HSS from powders, cemented carbide (10% Co). The analyses have ascertained the unwanted appearance of tensile normal stress on brittle materials, also "at rest", and even some dramatic changes of stress patterns as the die height increases with respect to the rectangular profile dimensions. Different materials behave differently, mainly due to difference of thermal expansion coefficients. Profile changes occur when the dies are heated up to the temperature required for warm compaction. The deformation patterns depend on compaction temperature and thermal expansion coefficients.
Computer simulations and test trials are carried out to get the optimal conditions about the stamping die design of the tailor laser welded automotive door inner. Firstly, the stamping process including gravity deflection, bead calibration, binder wrap, forming and spring back, are analyzed by the computer simulation. The results of simulation shows good correspondance with those of test trial under the same conditions. The variables of parametric study which will be investigated in the simulation and test trials, are determined form the results of the first run. The formability under the various conditions is evaluated, which are the initial postion of blank, blank holding force, corner radius and the shape of drawbead. Finally, well controled sound product without fracture, wrinkling and excessive weldline movement is obtained.

This paper describes a numerical analysis of a non-steady state porthole die extrusion, which is useful for manufacturing long tubes with a hollow section. Materials divided through several portholes are gathered within a chamber and are then welded under high pressure. This weldability classifies the quality of tube products and is affected by process variables and die shapes. However, porthole die extrusion has been executed based on the experience of experts, due to the complicated die assembly and the complexity of metal flow. In order to better assist the design of die and to obtain improvement of productivity, non-steady state 3D FE simulation of porthole die extrusion is required. Therefore, the objective of this study is to analyze the behavior of metal flow and to determine the welding pressure of hot extrusion products under various billet temperatures, bearing length, and tube thickness by FE analysis. The results of FE analysis are compared with those of experiments.
