3D Flight Path Creation using Sketch Input and Linear Spline Curves (스케치 입력과 선형 스플라인 곡선을 이용한 3D 항공경로 생성 방법)

  • Current flight maneuver diagram used by pilots is based on 2D spatial presentation, so it has limitation on display 3D flight information and hard to understand it instinctively. Flight animation authoring tools for this diagram are complex to use and lack useful features like non-linear editing of flight path and real-time interactivity on multiple aircrafts. This research focuses on 3D flight path generation method in the animation system for flight maneuver education. This research combines initial sketch input on 2D diagram with the thrust of an aircraft to generate 3D linear spline as close as to real flight. Using suggested linear spline creation method, the flight path can be visualized, edited, and animated in real-time at the flight maneuver briefing and debriefing.

Estimation of Mass Rapid Transit Passenger's Train Choice Using a Mixture Distribution Analysis (통행시간 기반 혼합분포모형 분석을 통한 도시철도 승객의 급행 탑승 여부 추정 연구)

  • Identifying the exact train and the type of train boarded by passengers is practically cumbersome. Previous studies identified the trains boarded by each passenger by matching the Automated Fare Collection (AFC) data and the train schedule diagram. However, this approach has been shown to be inefficient as the exact train boarded by a considerable number of passengers cannot be accurately determined. In this study, we demonstrate that the AFC data - diagram matching technique could not estimate 28% of the train type selected by passengers using the Seoul Metro line no.9. To obtain more accurate results, this paper developed a two-step method for estimating the train type boarded by passengers by applying the AFC data - diagram matching method followed by a mixture distribution analysis. As a result of the analysis, we derived reasonable express train use/non-use passenger classification points based on 298 origin-destination pairs that satisfied the verification criteria of this study.

  • The characteristics of the typhoon's extratropical transition (ET) over the western North Pacific area were investigated using the cyclone phase space (CPS) diagram method suggested by Hart (2003). The data used in this study were the global data assimilation prediction system (GDAPS) and NCEP data set. The number of typhoons selected were 75 cases during 2002 to 2007, and the three parameters were analyzed : the motion relative thickness asymmetry of the storm (B), the upper thermal wind shear and the lower thermal wind shear. Comparing the best-track data provided by the Regional Specialized Meteorological Center /Tokyo, the time of the ET based on CPS was 2~6 hours earlier than the best-track data. And it was shown that the 400- km and 30 kt wind radius of storm for the CPS method were better agreement than the previous suggested radius 500- km.

  • Turbine blade is subject to force of three type ; torsional force by torsion-mount, centrifugal force by rotation of rotor and cyclic bending force by steam pressure. Cyclic bending force of them is main factor on fatigue fracture. In the X-ray diffraction method, the change in the values related to plastic deformation and residual stress near the fracture surface mat be determined, and information of internal structure of material can be obtained. Therefore, to find a fracture mechanism of torsion-mounted blade in nuclear plant, based on the information from the fracture surface obtained by fatigue test, the correlation of X-ray parameter and fracture mechanics parameter was determined, and then the load applied to actual broken turbine blade parts was predicted. Failure analysis is performed by finite element method and Goodman diagram on torsion-mounted blade.

NEW RESULTS TO BDD TRUNCATION METHOD FOR EFFICIENT TOP EVENT PROBABILITY CALCULATION

  • A Binary Decision Diagram (BDD) is a graph-based data structure that calculates an exact top event probability (TEP). It has been a very difficult task to develop an efficient BDD algorithm that can solve a large problem since its memory consumption is very high. Recently, in order to solve a large reliability problem within limited computational resources, Jung presented an efficient method to maintain a small BDD size by a BDD truncation during a BDD calculation. In this paper, it is first identified that Jung's BDD truncation algorithm can be improved for a more practical use. Then, a more efficient truncation algorithm is proposed in this paper, which can generate truncated BDD with smaller size and approximate TEP with smaller truncation error. Empirical results showed this new algorithm uses slightly less running time and slightly more storage usage than Jung's algorithm. It was also found, that designing a truncation algorithm with ideal features for every possible fault tree is very difficult, if not impossible. The so-called ideal features of this paper would be that with the decrease of truncation limits, the size of truncated BDD converges to the size of exact BDD, but should never be larger than exact BDD.

  • Numerical analysis has been performed to evaluate effect of the shape variables such as core length, slot width and slot length on misrun in aluminum die casting process for motor rotor. The predictive method for misrun in diecasting process was established by comparing the result of numerical analysis and an actual motor rotor. Solidification modulus was introduced to predict quantitatively the castability of aluminum diecasting process for motor rotor. It was found that there are minimum critical solidification modulus and slot width to prevent misrun according to core length through diecasting limit diagram proposed using the predictive method. The critical solidification modulus and slot width increase as core length increases to prevent misrun of aluminum motor rotor in diecasting process. Based on the results, the design criteria of slot shape to prevent misrun of aluminum motor rotor with various core length were established.

  • In this paper, a novel analysis of a carrier based PWM method for multilevel inverters is presented. The space vector PWM and carrier based PWM correlations in multilevel inverters are investigated in a nominal two-level switching diagram. The obtained results can be applied to design various carrier PWM techniques. In this paper, a carrier based single-state PWM technique, which reduces the switching number and optimizes the active voltage errors, is presented. This PWM technique can be advantageous if there are a large number of levels. The proposed method is mathematically formulated and demonstrated by simulations and experimental results.

Risk-based Decision Model to Estimate the Contingency for Large Construction Projects (리스크 분석에 기초한 대형건설공사의 예비비 산정에 관한 연구)

  • Nowadays the rapid change in construction environment getting more globalized and complicated has caused lots of unexpected risks from inside and out of the country, so more sophisticated construction management strategies are being strongly needed. This paper suggests a risk management model with which we can estimate the appropriate contingency by quantifying the amount of probable risks immanent in large construction projects, which have a high degree of uncertainty in the anticipation of the total construction cost. To develop the model, the risk factors that make cost variations are elicited based on the real data of the contingencies assigned to the past projects. Furthermore, the influential relationship of risk factors is structured by applying the CRM(Cost Risk Model) which is the synthetic model of Monte Carlo Simulation, Influence Diagram and Decision Tree. The ultimate outcome of this research can by validated by tile case study with a large construction project performed.

  • Currently, software testing is becoming increasingly important in the industrial field and a large body of research supports the improvement of efficient software testing. Model-based testing is generally used to formalize user requirement data for test design. Complex system that includes loop and concurrency has a high probability of path explosion problem. Specially, as threads are added to concurrency, test scenarios have also increased exponentially. However, it is difficult to solve this problem using existing techniques. In this paper, we propose novel path-search technique that focuses on behavioral features of concurrency path in order to avoid path explosion problem. A system that contains concurrent paths is represented by activity diagram in case study section. Efficiency of our study is shown through comparison with several generated test scenarios of other studies. The result indicate that our approach is efficient for finding faults in loop and concurrency with fewer test scenario.

  • Four simple plotting techniques using the distribution of individuals among species were applied and the results discussed to evaluate the methods for detecting organic pollution-induced perturbation in marine benthic communities in Chinhae Bay, Korea: Rarefaction method, Abundance-Biomass Comparison method, Log-Normal Distribution method and Rank-Frequency Diagram method. Their distribution curves offered more information on the community structure than other frequently used diversity indices and distinguished clear evidence of an effect of environmental pollution with gradient. However, the Abundance-Biomass Comparison method could not be considered applicable due to the presence of larger slowly growing K-strategists in a polluted area of the inner Chinhae Bay, Korea.
