  • The conventional AC PDP has a relatively low efficiency which is close to 1.5 lm/W. If the AC sustain period is replaced by the RF sustain period, due to oscillating and low electric field, almost 60% of the supplied energy is spent by Xe excitation [1]. The efficiency of RF PDP can be $4{\sim}5$ times higher than that of AC PDP. In this paper, we will present the RF PDP that is a new type of PDP. A new display method in PDP using RF pulses is suggested and applied on a 4-inch-diagonal Panel (hereinafter 4" panel). Even though there were many researches in RF discharge, there was not enough research for display application. Now we propose the RF PDP that is a new display field and we will expect to do more research in this field.

  • This study investigated the irradiation pattern of muscles on the affected side in stroke patients after application of diagonal 2 extension (D2 ex) proprioceptive neuromuscular facilitation in the unaffected upper extremity. Seven stroke patients participated. Electromyographic activities were recorded in the iliopsoas, biceps brachii, and triceps brachii were recorded by surface electrodes at rest, D2 ex with knee extension, and D2 ex with knee 90 flexion, normalized by maximal voluntary isometric contraction (MVIC) values. The medial frequencies of biceps brachii in both sides were also measured to compare muscle type recruited. %MVIC of biceps brachii and triceps brachii were significantly higher in D2 ex than at rest (p<.05). There was no difference in median frequency of biceps brachii between the affected and unaffected side (p>.05). This suggests that proprioceptive neuromuscular facilitation using D2 ex may improve muscle activities of the paretic side and that the irritation pattern of the affected side may respond to maintain body equilibrium according to movement of the sound side.

  • The characteristic of carbon nano fiber (CNF) as electron emitters was described. Carbon nano fiber (CNF) of herringbone was prepared by thermal chemical vapor deposition(CVD), mixed with binders and conductive materials, and then were formed by screen-printing process. In order to increase effectively field emissions, the surface treatment of rubbing & peel-off was applied to the printed CNF emitters on cathode electrode. The measurements of field emission properties were carried out by using a diode structure inline vacuum chamber. CNF of herringbone type showed good emission properties that a turn on field was as low as $2.5V/{\mu}m$ and current density was as large as $0.15mA/cm^2$ of $4.5V/{\mu}m$ with electric field. After the vacuum packaged panel of 5-inch in diagonal, the measured white brightness was as high as $7000cd/m^2$ at 1900V of anode and 700V of gate voltage.

  • Eye Glass Display (EGD) with microdisplay to realize the virtual display can make the large screen, so virtual image has been developed by using microdisplay panel. This paper shows study of low cost lens design and simulation for microdisplay system with 0.6"LCoS panel. Lens design optimized consider to spherical aberration, astigmatism, distortion, and chromatic aberration. Code V is used and it designed an aspheric lens about exit pupil 6mm, eye relief 20mm and 35 degree of field of view (FOV). With the application this aspheric lens to liquid crystal on silicon (LCOS) type's microdisplay, virtual image showed 50 inch at 2m. One side of the aspheric lens was constituted from diffractive optical element (DOE) for the improvement in a performance. It had less than 2.5% of distortion value and modulation transfer function in axial had 20% of resolution with 32 lp/mm spatial frequency. The optical system is suitable for display of 15.6 mm-diagonal with SVGA.

  • Main objective of this study is to examine the hysteretic behaviors and to evaluate the capacity of precast concrete (PC) large panel structures simulated from the prototype of 15-story building, Two 1/2 scaled precast concrete wall specimens and one monolithic reinforced concrete specimen were designed and tested under the cyclic loading conditions. The main parameter of test specimens in PC large panel structure is the type of details for vertical continuity of vertical steel in horizontal joint. Also the behaviors of PC large panel structures are compared with that of monolithic reinforcement concrete wall structure. From the results, the stiffness and energy dissipation ratio of the precast concrete specimens are shown little bit lower than those of monolithic reinforced concrete specimen. In the PC large panel structures, the specimen connected vertically by welding (strong connection) showed higher strength than that of the specimen connected vertically by joint box. However the failure pattern of the former showed more brittle than that of the latter due to the diagonal compressive failure of wall panels.

  • Masonry is a composite non-homogeneous structural material, whose mechanical properties depend on the properties of and the interaction between the composite components - brick and mortar, their volume ratio, the properties of their bond, and any cracking in the masonry. The mechanical properties of masonry depend on the orientation of the bed joints and the stress state of the joints, and so the values of the shear modulus, as well as the stiffness of masonry structural elements can depend on various factors. An extensive testing programme in several countries addresses the problem of measurement of the stiffness properties of masonry. These testing programs have provided sufficient data to permit a review of the influence of different testing techniques (mono and bi-axial tests), the variations caused by distinct loading conditions (monotonic and cyclic), the impact of the mortar type, as well as influence of the reinforcement. This review considers the impact of the measurement devices used for determining the shear modulus and stiffness of walls on the results. The results clearly indicate a need to re-assess the values stated in almost all national codes for the shear modulus of the masonry, especially for masonry made with lime mortar, where strong anisotropic behaviour is in the stiffness properties.

  • Space telescope optics is one of the major parts of any space mission used to observe astronomical targets or the Earth. This kind of space mission typically involves bulky and complex opto-mechanics with a long optical tube, but attempts have been made to observe a target with a small satellite. In this paper, we describe the optical design of a reflecting telescope for use in a CubeSat mission. For this design we adopt the off-axis segmented method for astronomical observation techniques based on a Ritchey-Chr$\acute{e}$tien type telescope. The primary mirror shape is a rectangle with dimensions of $8cm{\times}8cm$, and the secondary mirror has dimensions of $2.4cm{\times}4.1cm$. The focal ratio is 3 which can yield a 0.383 degree diagonal angle in a $1280{\times}800$ CMOS color image sensor with a pixel size of $3{\mu}m{\times}3{\mu}m$. This optical design can capture a ${\sim}4km{\times}{\sim}2.3km$ area of the earth's surface at 700 km altitude operation.

  • This paper is the second part of the January 2018 issue of the Korean Society for Engineering Education, The "Equilibrium and Unbalance Analysis of Taegeuk Pattern DNA Matrix Codes," and is an extension of the paper published in the IoT Section of the 2017 Summer Conference in Jeju. In this paper, we have reviewed the history of what is life, and 5G Mobile communication: with IoT followed by recent research on influenza RNA gene mutation and DNA mutation variants, and the insights of Watson and Crick. Inspired by a single Franklin DNA X-ray diffraction photograph, they received the Nobel Prize for the Nature publication of DNA that has three patterns and regular repeatability. Professor MoonHo Lee has solved the three patterns in Diagonal, Left to Right, and Vertical matrices in a 2x2 matrix[CU; AG] and A = T = U = 30% C = G = 20%. We also proposed DNA Watch. This is the Healthcare IoT, which is seen by the DNA Watch on the wrist, the type of Tai Chi pattern of the body, and is immediately connected to the smartphone and delivered to the doctor.

  • This study investigates a new optimal placement method for viscous dampers between structures in order to prevent pounding of adjacent structures with different dynamic characteristics under earthquake effects. A relative displacement spectrum is developed in two single degree of freedom system to reveal the critical period ratios for the most risky scenario of collision using El Centro earthquake record (NS). Three different types of viscous damper design, which are classical, stair and X-diagonal model, are considered to prevent pounding on two adjacent building models. The objective function is minimized under the upper and lower limits of the damping coefficient of the damper and a target modal damping ratio. A new algorithm including time history analyses and numerical optimization methods is proposed to find the optimal dampers placement. The proposed design method is tested on two 12-storey adjacent building models. The effects of the type of damper placement on structural models, the critical period ratios of adjacent structures, the permissible relative displacement limit, the mode behavior and the upper limit of damper are investigated in detail. The results of the analyzes show that the proposed method can be used as an effective means of finding the optimum amount and location of the dampers and eliminating the risk of pounding.
