  • Many research works are on going to monitor and diagnose diverse malfunctions of satellite systems as the complexity and number of satellites increase. Currently, many works on monitoring and diagnosis are carried out by human experts but there are needs to automate much of the routine works of them. Hence, it is necessary to study on using expert systems which can assist human experts routine work by doing automatically, thereby allow human experts devote their expertise more critical and important areas of monitoring and diagnosis. In this paper, we are employing artificial intelligence techniques to model human expert's knowledge and inference the constructed knowledge. Especially, case-based approaches are used to construct a knowledge base to model human expert capabilities which use previous typical exemplars. We have designed and implemented a prototype case-based system for diagnosing satellite malfunctions using cases. Our system remembers typical failure cases and diagnoses a current malfunction by indexing the case base. Diverse methods are used to build a more user friendly interface which allows human experts can build a knowledge base in an easy way.

  • Diagnosing breast diseases using ultrasound (US) images remains challenging because it is time-consuming and requires expert radiologist knowledge. As a result, the diagnostic performance is significantly biased. To assist radiologists in this process, computer-aided diagnosis (CAD) systems have been developed and used in practice. This type of system is used not only to assist radiologists in examining breast ultrasound images (BUS) but also to ensure the effectiveness of the diagnostic process. In this study, we propose a new approach for breast lesion localization and segmentation using a multi-scale pyramid of the ultrasound image of a breast organ and a convolutional semantic segmentation network. Unlike previous studies that used only a deep detection/segmentation neural network on a single breast ultrasound image, we propose to use multiple images generated from an input image at different scales for the localization and segmentation process. By combining the localization/segmentation results obtained from the input image at different scales, the system performance was enhanced compared with that of the previous studies. The experimental results with two public datasets confirmed the effectiveness of the proposed approach by producing superior localization/segmentation results compared with those obtained in previous studies.

  • Diagnosis is composed of two different but interrelated steps ; retrieving the sensory responses f the system and reasoning the state of the system through the given sensor data. This paper explains the probabilistic nature of reasoning involved in the diagnosis when the uncertainties are inevitably included in experts' diagnostic decision making. Uncertainties in decision making are experts' personal experiences, preferences, and system's coherent characteristics. In order to ensure a consistent decision based on the same responses from the system, expert system technology is adopted with the Bayesian reasoning scheme.

  • Purpose: The aims of the present study are to determine the optimum compression rate in terms of file size reduction and diagnostic quality of the images after compression and evaluate the transmission speed of original or each compressed image. Materials and Methods: The material consisted of 24 extracted human premolars and molars. The occlusal surfaces and proximal surfaces of the teeth had a clinical disease spectrum that ranged from sound to varying degrees of fissure discoloration and cavitation. The images from Digora system were exported in TIFF and the images from conventional intraoral film were scanned and digitalized in TIFF by Nikon SF-200 scanner (Nikon, Japan). And six compression factors were chosen and applied on the basis of the results from a pilot study. The total number of images to be assessed were 336. Three radiologists assessed the occlusal and proximal surfaces of the teeth with 5-rank scale. Finally diagnosed as either sound or carious lesion by one expert oral pathologist. And sensitivity, specificity and k value for diagnostic agreement was calculated. Also the area (Az) values under the ROC curve were calculated and paired t-test and oneway ANOVA test was performed. Thereafter, transmission time of the image files of the each compression level was compared with that of the original image files. Results: No significant difference was found between original and the corresponding images up to 7% (1 : 14) compression ratio for both the occlusal and proximal caries (p<0.05). JPEG3 (1 : 14) image files are transmitted fast more than 10 times, maintained diagnostic information in image, compared with original image files. Conclusion: 1 : 14 compressed image file may be used instead of the original image and reduce storage needs and transmission time.

  • Objectives This study aimed to propose biomarkers for diagnosing Chuna manual therapy (CMT) based on X-ray images in the thoracic and lumbar spines. Methods Through a literature review and expert consensus process, diagnostic biomarkers for CMT were selected based on the listing system in thoracic and lumbar radiograph anterior-posterior (AP) and lateral views. Results 1. Diagnostic biomarkers were derived from four points on the outer contour of the vertebral body in the thoracic and lumbar spine radiograph lateral view, enabling the diagnosis of flexion and extension malposition. 2. Additional diagnostic biomarkers were identified in the thoracic and lumbar radiographAP view, utilizing points on the outer contour of the vertebral body. These biomarkers facilitate the diagnosis of lateral bending. Moreover, biomarkers derived from the innermost point of the pedicle contour allow for the diagnosis of rotation malposition. 3. Furthermore, through the biomarkers proposed in this study, all malpositions of the thoracolumbar spines and complex Type I and II malpositions can be diagnosed in CMT. Conclusions The biomarkers reported in this study consist of minimal points to determine the position of the vertebral body, providing the advantage of simplicity while minimizing potential errors during the CMT diagnostic process. Further clinical research and the development of related programs should be pursued to expand the evidence for CMT.

  • Vibration diagnosis of steam turbine generator is essential for safe operation. For a fast few decades, several data base systems for diagnosis of steam turbine generators have been developed and proved useful. However, there still remains a problem in using data base systems such that they require an expert engineer who has a deep insight or knowledg into the system. Moreover, such data base systems can not give any information if the input is not completely fit with data base. This paper presents an effective method for vibration diagnosis of steam turbine generators using fuzzy inference. The proposed method includes also a strategy to overcome the drawback of data base system such that one cannot obtain any information when the input is insufficient or not exact. A computer program is written to realize the entire procedure for the diagnosis. Three realistic problems are dealt with to show the effectiveness of the proposed method.

  • The huge and complicated plants such as nuclear power stations are likely to cause the operators to make mistakes due to a variety of inexplicable reasons and symptoms in case of emergency. Thats why the prevention system assisting the operators is being developed for. First of all. I suggest an improved fuzzy diagnosis. Secondly. I want to demonstrate that a classification system of nuclear plants accident investigating the causes of accidents foresees possible problems. and maintains the reliability of the diagnostic reports in spite of improper working in part. In the event of emergency in a nuclear plant, a lot of operational steps enable the operators to find out what caused the problems based on an emergent operating plan. Our system is able to classify their types within twenty to thirty seconds. As so, we expect the system to put don the accidents right after the rapid detection of the damage control-method concerned.

  • Since power plant is an important system to provide electricity, it is necessary to monitor it in order to operate safely. Much information related with machine diagnosis exists in written form instead of digital data. So, it causes difficulties of analyzing and finding solutions. Rulebased expert system can provide flexible and effective solutions to users. In this paper, Recursive Bayesian Estimation is applied in order to increase accuracy of solutions.
