  • Closed-loop transmit diversity is considered an important technique for improving the link budget in the third generation and future wireless communication standards. This paper proposes several transmit diversity algorithms suitable for small wireless terminals and presents performance assessment in terms of average signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) and outage improvement, convergence, and complexity of operations. The algorithms presented herein are verified using data from measured indoor channels with variable antenna spacing and the results explained using measured radiation patterns for a two-element array. It is shown that for a two-element array, the best among the proposed techniques provides SNR improvement of about 3 dB in a tightly spaced array (inter-element spacing of 0.1 wavelength at 2 GHz) typical of small wireless devices. Additionally, these techniques are shown to perform significantly better than a single antenna device in an indoor channel considering realistic values of latency and propagation errors.

  • In this paper, we proposes a internal antenna for wireless DVI dongle device using the folded monopole structure. The proposed antenna uses a basic structure of spiral and monopole. The antenna optimized for parameters length, gap, width, and rectangle of folded monopole antenna using the spiral structure. To confirm the characteristics of the antenna parameters, HFSS from ANSYS Inc. was used for the analysis. We used an FR4 dielectric substrate with a dielectric constant of 4.4. The DVI dongle size of the proposed antenna is $50{\times}40{\times}1.6mm$, and the size of the antenna area is $10{\times}40mm$. There is a value of return loss less then -10dB in 2.4GHz and 5.8GHz, band and the maximum antenna gain is -4.13dBi. The utilization possibility of the wireless DVI Dongle antenna have a folded monopole with spiral shape could be confirmed according to compare and analyze the simulation and measurement data.

  • This paper describes the implementation of a ZigBee sensor node that can be utilized as a multiband and machine to machine (M2M) communication gateway. The IEEE 802.15.4-2003 standard was used as the wireless network frequency band. Ember's Type EM357 SoC was used as the transmission and reception device to perform the communication function, and it was also used for both the main M2M gateway and the sensor node. For the implementation of the operating protocol, EmberZNet Stack 4.5.4 from the Ember Corporation was used. The measurement of the reception sensitivity in the receiving module and the actual output signal from the reference were obtained from the transmission of a packet, and the packet included the M2M gateway within the attached ZigBee sensor. The packet error rate was measured as 0% with a -98 dBm reception sensitivity at the ZigBee frequency. In addition, excellent current characteristics of the ZigBee modules were shown by the implementation of the low-power circuit.

  • An active antenna(AA) can have wider bandwidth and more gain with small antenna size than those of passive antennas. However, AA inherently generates thermal noise and spurious signals from an active device. Moreover, the spurious performance of AA is very important in a highly sensitive receiving system since it is located at the front end of the receiving system. In this study, we developed an AA with $100{\sim}500\;MHz$, having the output P1dB higher than 3 dBm and little spurious signals in real environments. To achieve such performance, we designed an AA with 3-stage amplifier using CD(common drain) FET and 2 BJTs. Its electrical performances were simulated using ADS. The measurement results for typical gain, NF, OIP3, VSWR and P1dB in the required frequency band were 9.7 dBi, 10 dB, 14 dBm, 1.7:1 and 3 dBm respectively. They are in good agreement with simulation results. The unwanted spectrum level of the proposed AA is $10{\sim}30\;dB$ lower than that of the antenna with CS(common source) FET configuration at a west suburban area of Seoul, which shows that the proposed AA can be applicable to a highly sensitive receiving system for detecting unknown weak signals mixed with broadcasting and civilian communication signals.

  • The purpose of this study is to compare and analyse the differences between a customized small finger made by 3D printing technology, a real small finger, and the other made from plaster of an orthotic company. The areas and the volumes of each cross-section were measured by Computer tomography(CT) and a 3D scanner and analysis of variance was performed to find out the differences of each shape. The areas of the point of 15.69mm, Distal Interphalangel Joints, were measured 30 times respectively using the caliper toll function of Picture Archiving Communication System(PASC) program. The volumes were measured by Configure Units of Meshmixer Program. There was no significant difference in the areas between three of them and there was 0.2 mm gap in the volume, which was more than the significance probability. Therefore, the result of this study shows the availability of finger orthoses made by 3D printing technology in the medical field.

  • In this paper, we designed a Ku-band BPF(Band Pass Filter) by microstrip line that most usually used a microwave device design and fabrication. Here a substrate of designed BPF were silicon substrate(${\varepsilon}_r=11.8$), and metal line was copper and silver/copper structure. And a configration of BPF was used hairpin pattern. A center frequency of designed BPF was 10GHz and their FBW(Fractional Band Width) was 20%(2GHz). It presented simulated results obtained for a 10GHz filter which yields an insertion loss of 0.1dB that ripple value related chebyshev reponse. Finallt we tried to make that a 30dB attenuation frequency was 20% of center frequency.

  • In this paper, we present the design of Q-band LC VCO and injection locking buffer for 77 GHz automotive radar sensor using 130 nm RF CMOS process. To improve the phase noise characteristic of LC tank, the transmission line is used. The negative resistance by the active device cross-coupled pair of buffer is used for high output power, with or without oscillation of buffer. The measured phase noise is -102 dBc/Hz at 1 MHz offset frequency and tuning range is 34.53~35.07 GHz. The output power is higher than 4.1 dBm over entire tuning range. The fabricated chip size is $510{\times}130\;um^2$. The power consumption of LC VCO is 10.8 mW and injection locking buffer is 50.4 mW from 1.2 V supply.

  • Linear size expanders have been studied in many fields for the practical use, which make it possible to connect large numbers of device chips in both parallel communication systems and parallel computers. One major limitation on the efficiency of parallel computer designs has been the highly cost of parallel communication between processors and memories. Linear order concentrators can be used to construct theoretically optimal interconnection network schemes. Existing explicitly defined constructions are based on expanders, which have large constant factors, thereby rendering them impractical for reasonable sized networks. For these objectives, we use the more detailed matching points in permutation functions, to find out the bigger expansion constant from an equation, $\mid\Gamma_x\mid\geq[1+d(1-\midX\mid/n)]\midX\mid$. This paper presents an improvement of expansion constant on constructing concentrators using expanders, which realizes the reduction of the size in a superconcentrator by a constant factor. As a result, this paper shows an explicit construction of (n, 5, $1-\sqrt{3/2}$) expander. Thus, superconcentrators with 209n edges can be obtained by applying to the expanders of Gabber and Galil's construction.

  • In this paper, a 5-bit 2-GS/s 2-way time interleaved pipeline ADC for high-speed serial link receiver is demonstrated. Implemented as a current-mode amplifier, the stage ADC simultaneously processes the tracking and residue amplification to achieve higher sampling rate. In addition, each stage incorporates a built-in 1-tap FIR equalizer, reducing inter-symbol-interference (ISI)without an extra digital post-processing. The ADC is designed in a 110nm CMOS technology. It comsumes 91mW from a 1.2-V supply. The area excluding the memory block is $0.58{\times}0.42mm^2$. Simulation results show that when equalizer is enabled, the ADC achieves SNDR of 25.2dB and ENOB of 3.9bits at 2.0GS/s sample rate for a Nyquist input signal. When the equalizer is disengaged, SNDR is 26.0dB for 20MHz-1.0GHz input signal, and the ENOB of 4.0bits.

  • This paper presents a channel structure for promising high performance pseudomorphic high electron mobility transistor(pHEMT) switching device for design and fabricating of microwave control circuits, such as switches, phase shifters, attenuators, limiters, for application in personal mobile communication systems. Using the designed epitaxial channel layer structure and ETRI's $0.5\mu$m pHEMT switch process, single pole double throw (SPDT) Tx/Rx monolithic microwave integrated circuit (MMIC) switch was fabricated for 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz band wireless local area network (WLAN) systems. The SPDT switch exhibits a low insertion loss of 0.849 dB, high isolation of 32.638 dB, return loss of 11.006 dB, power transfer capability of 25dBm, and 3rd order intercept point of 42dBm at frequency of 5.8GHz and control voltage of 0/-3V These performances are enough for an application to 5 GHz band WLAN systems.
