  • This paper presents radiation pattern reconfigurable antenna for Fitbit Flex wristband which detects vital signal. Also, the paper presents Specific Absorption Rate (SAR) from the loop-dipole radiation pattern reconfigurable antenna based on the position of human body. The proposed loop-dipole radiation pattern reconfigurable antenna produces two opposite side direction radiation pattern using two RF switches. The resonant frequency of the radiation pattern reconfigurable antenna is Bluetooth communication bandwidth (2.4 - 2.485 GHz) and the maximum gain of the proposed antenna is 1.96 dBi. The proposed antenna satisfied the standard SAR value of 1.6 W/kg in 1 g tissue of the human body when the Bluetooth communication input average power of 0.04 W is excited to five parts of human body (head, chest, stomach, back, wrist). The maximum SAR value of in this simulation is presented in the part of head.

  • To get the spatial feature of arterial pulse, we designed spatial pulse diagnostic apparatus (SPDA) using a 2-dimensional magnetoresistive sensor array. The magnetic field distribution fur magnet may was simulated using finite element method. We recognized that the field distribution of parallel magnet mays was more sensitive and uniformed than that of perpendicular one. Also the spatial displacements of magnet array were agreed with the output signal of magnetic tunnel junction (MTJ) sensor array.

  • This paper presents the communication performance for the radiation pattern reconfigurable antenna in the wearable device measuring bio signal (temperature, blood pressure, pulse etc.) of human body. The operational frequency is 2.4 - 2.5 GHz, which covers Bluetooth communication bandwidth. The maximum gain of the antennas is 1.96 dBi. The proposed antenna is efficiently transmitting and receiving signal by generating two opposite beam directions using two RF switches (PIN diode). Also, we investigated how radiation pattern changes according to three angles ($30^{\circ}$, $90^{\circ}$, $150^{\circ}$) of Top Loading. In this paper, we measured and compared the SNR (Signal-to-Noise Ratio) and BER (Bit Error Rate) performances of the proposed antennas in the condition between an ideal environment of anechoic chamber and smart house existing practical electromagnetic interferences (Universal Software Radio Peripheral, USRP). Throughout the comparing the results of the measurement of two cases, we found that the SNR is degraded over 5dB in average and BER is increased over ten times in maximum, therefore, it is confirmed that the error rate of receiving signal is increased. The measured results of SNR and BER value in this paper able to expect the performance degrading by the interference from the electromagnetic devices.

  • In this study, we evaluated the effects of static magnetic fields of earphones and headphones on pacemakers and implantable cardioverter defibrillators(ICDs). Five pacemakers and three ICDs were subjected to in-vitro test with three headphones which were an in-ear earphone, clip-on headphone, and closed-back headphone. Each implantable device was placed in close proximity(within 3 mm) to the ear-pad of each of the earphone and headphones for 3 min. As a result, no effects were observed on the pacemakers for the earphone and headphones during the test, but an effect was observed on one ICD for the clip-on and closed-back headphone during the test. When the ICD was placed in close proximity to the headphones, the ICD temporarily suspended functions of tachyarrhythmia detection and therapy. The effect was not observed in this study when the headphones were at least 2 cm from the ICD. Based on these findings, patients with ICDs should be advised to keep earphones and headphones at least 2 cm apart from their ICDs.

  • This study focuses on simulation technology in the injection molding process for plastic optic lenses. The CAE program 3D TIMON was used to predict retardation, flow patterns and warpage deformation. The results were compared to the results of optic lenses as measured using the WPA-100 retardation measurement device with injection molding CAE for retardation predictions. According to the analysis and measured results, the distributions of retardation between the CAE results and the measurement results were similar. It was also confirmed that varying the injection speed had an effect on the injection pressure, warpage deformation and retardation distribution. As the injection speed increases, the injection pressure also increases and warpage deformation decreases. However, as the injection speed increases, the retardation distribution deteriorates.

  • The atomization characteristics of the dual air supplying two-fluid nozzle were investigated experimentally using PIV and PDA systems. The twin-fluid nozzle is composed of three main parts: the feeding injector to supply fluid that is controlled by a PWM (pulse-width modulation) mode, the adaptor as a device with the ports for supplying the carrier and assist air, and the main nozzle to produce sprays. The main nozzle has the swirler with four equally spaced tangential slots, which gives the injecting fluid an angular momentum. The swirl angle in the swirler varied with $0^{\circ}$, $30^{\circ}$, $60^{\circ}$ and $90^{\circ}$. The ratios of carrier air to assist air and ALR (total air to liquid) were 0.55 and 1.23, respectively. The macroscopic behavior of the spray was investigated using PIV system, and the AMD and SMD distributions of the sprays were measured using PDA system. As a result, the SMD distribution increases along the radial distance, and it decreases with the increase of swirl angle in swirler.

  • The nozzle-flapper valves are widely applied as a pilot stage in aerospace and military system. A subject of the analysis presented in this work is to find out a reasonable range of null clearance between the nozzle and flapper. This paper has presented a numerical flow coefficient simulation. In every design point, a parameterized model is created for flow coefficient simulation and cavitation under different conditions with varying gap width and inlet pressure. Moreover, a new test device has been designed to measure the flow coefficient and for visualized cavitation. The numerical simulation and test results both indicate that cavitation intensity gets fierce initially and shrinks finally as the gap width varies from small to large. From the curve, the flow coefficient mostly has experienced three stages: linear throttle section, transition section and saturation section. The appropriate deflection of flapper is recommended to make the gap width drop into the linear throttle section. The flapper-nozzle null clearance is optionally recommended near the range of $D_N/16$. Finally through simulation it is also concluded that the inlet pressure plays a little role in the influence on the flow coefficient.

  • Graphene has shown exceptional properties for high performance devices due to its high carrier mobility. Of particular interest is the potential use of graphene nanoribbons as field-effect transistors. Herein, we introduce a facile approach to the fabrication of graphene nanoribbon (GNR) arrays with ~200 nm width using nanoimprint lithography (NIL), which is a simple and robust method for patterning with high fidelity over a large area. To realize a 2D material-based device, we integrated the graphene nanoribbon arrays in field effect transistors (GNR-FETs) using conventional lithography and metallization on highly-doped $Si/SiO_2$ substrate. Consequently, we observed an enhancement of the performance of the GNR-transistors compared to that of the micro-ribbon graphene transistors. Besides this, using a transfer printing process on a flexible polymeric substrate, we demonstrated graphene-silicon junction structures that use CVD grown graphene as flexible electrodes for Si based transistors.

  • In this paper, the new LIGBT structures with trap injection are proposed to improve switching characteristics of the conventional SOI LIGBT. The Simulations are performed in order to investigate the effects of the positiion, whidth and concentration of trap injection region with a reduced minority carrier lifetime using 2D device simulator MEDICI. Their electrical characteristics are analyzed and the optimum design parameters are extracted. As a result of simulation, the turn off time for the model A with the trap injection is $0.78\mus$. These results indicate the improvement of about 2 times compared with the conventional SOI LIGBT because trap injection prevents minority carriers which is stored in the n-drift region during turn off switching. The latching current is $1.5\times10^{-4}A/\mum$ and forward blocking voltage is 168V which are superior to those of conventional structure. It is shown that the trap injection is very effective to reduce the turn off time with a little increasing of on-state voltage drop if its design and process parameters are optimized.
