Effect of Coolants and Metal Bumps on the heat Removal of Liquid Cooled Microchannel System (액랭식 마이크로채널 시스템 내 냉매와 범프의 열 제거 효과에 대한 연구)

  • As transistor density increases rapidly, a heat flux from IC device rises at fast rate. Thermal issues raised by high heat flux cause IC's performance and reliability problems. To solve these thermal management problems, the conventional cooling methods of IC devices were reached their thermal limit. As a result, alternative cooling methods such as liquid heat pipe, thermoelectric cooler, thermal Si via and etc. are currently emerging. In this paper microchannel liquid cooling system with TSV was investigated. The effects of 2 coolants (DI water and ethylene glycol 70 wt%) and 3 metal bumps (Ag, Cu, Cr/Au/Cu) on cooling performance were studied, and the total heat flux of various coolant and bump cases were compared. Surface temperature of liquid cooling system was measured by infrared microscopy, and liquid flowing through microchannel was observed by fluorescence microscope. In the case of ethylene glycol 70 wt% at $200^{\circ}C$ heating temperature, the total heat flux was $2.42W/cm^2$ and most of total heat flux was from liquid cooling effect.

The Cell Resequencing Buffer for the Cell Sequence Integrity Guarantee for the Cyclic Banyan Network (사이클릭 벤얀 망의 셀 순서 무결성 보장을 위한 셀 재배열 버퍼)

  • In this paper, we present the cell resequencing buffer to solve the cell sequence integrity problem of the Cyclic banyan network that is a high-performance fault-tolerant cell switch. By offering multiple paths between input ports and output ports, using the deflection self-routing, the Cyclic banyan switch offer high reliability, and it also solves congestion problem for the internal links of the switch. By the way, these multiple paths can be different lengths for each other. Therefore, the cells departing from an identical source port and arriving at an identical destination port can reach to the output port as the order that is different from the order arriving at input port. The proposed cell resequencing buffer is a hardware sliding window mechanism. to solve such cell sequence integrity problem. To calculate the size of sliding window that cause the prime cost of the presented device, we analyzed the distribution of the cell delay through the simulation analyses under traffic load that have a nonuniform address distribution that express tile Property of traffic of the Internet. Through these analyses, we found out that we can make a cell resequencing buffer by which the cell sequence integrity is to be secured, by using a, few of ordinary memory and control logic. The cell resequencing buffer presented in this paper can be used for other multiple paths switching networks.

A Secure AIS Protocol Suggestion with Analyses of the Standard AIS Protocol (표준 AIS 프로토콜 분석을 통한 보안 AIS 프로토콜 제안)

  • Recently, marine accidents such as the sinking accident Mongol freighter ship and the sinking accident of Sewol ferry in Jindo continuously happen. In order to decrease the number of these marine accidents, Korean ships are obliged to follow the AIS(Automatic Identification System) system. The AIS protocol includes all information for sailing ships. However, the standard AIS protocol does not provide any security function, In addition, it is possible to hijack the standard AIS protocol in case of using a satellite communication device called FUNcuve Dongle Pro+. Therefore, this paper analyzes weak points of the security in the standard AIS protocol. Furthermore, this paper ensures reliability by marking the MAC Address of sender and receiver for secure communication and suggests the protocol that can securely send data, using the VPN Tunnelling method. Therefore, the suggested AIS protocol provides the secure communication to the AIS protocol and protect the messages in the AIS protocol, which can serve safe voyages by decreasing the marine accidents.

  • FMECA(Failure Mode, Effects and Criticality Analysis) techniques to make quantitative evaluation of failure effects severity and criticality have been applied to systematic failure analysis for reliability improvement of train which should provide regular service and secure high level of safety as a mass transportation system. These FMECA techniques do not fully reflect the inherent train operation and maintenance circumstances because they are based on the FMECA standards devised for other industries such as automobile industry and FMECA standard dedicated to train industry has not been established yet. This paper analyzes FMECA standards for various industries, and suggests a FMECA technique dedicated to train industry which makes failure effect analysis and criticality analysis step by step and makes criticality analysis placing emphasis on the severity of the failure effect. The proposed technique is applied to FMECA of high-speed current breaker which is a core safety device of train using field failure data for 15 years of train maintenance. The FMECA results show that breakage of arc chute has the highest risk with 3rd severity class and 5th criticality class among all the components of high-speed circuit breaker. Damage and poor contact of electronic valve, and cylinder breakage with 3rd severity class and 4th criticality class are followed by. These results can be applied to improvement of design and maintenance process for high-speed circuit breaker of train.

A Study on the Durability Performance of a Receptacle for CNG Vehicles (천연가스 차량용 리셉터클의 내구성능에 관한 연구)

  • Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) buses have been supplied since the year 2000 in order to resolve severe atmospheric pollution in metropolitan area and contributed on the improvement of urban atmospheric environment. However, it is indispensible to take an adequate measure to guarantee the safety of CNG vehicles because of the possibility of huge fire accident. A receptacle, connecting device between high pressure fuel supply tank and fuel line, plays an important role in CNG supply system. In recent, leakage of CNG from receptacles has been reported. So, the concern about the security and reliability of receptacles has been arisen. Therefore, a lot of efforts to prevent leakage are invested among researchers and the durability of this component should be guaranteed despite repeated operation. This research has performed durability tests of a CNG receptacle regarding the repeated usage, extreme chattering, and continuous full flow test. Although a receptacle used for CNG vehicle satisfies validation requirements in the test results, it has been found that failure in the function of leakage prevention in a receptacle could take place in the case of prolonged exposure to high supply pressure in common quick charging environment on site.

Laboratory Evaluation of the Accuracy, Precision, and Inter-instrumental Variance of a Portable Photoionization Detector (휴대용 광이온화 검출기의 정확도, 정밀도 및 기기간 차이에 대한 실험실 평가)

  • Objectives: This study investigated the performance of three separate units of a portable photoionization detector (PID, ppb-RAE 3000) for measuring volatile organic compounds (VOCs) in a laboratory. Methods: A laboratory evaluation of the accuracy, precision, and inter-instrumental variance of three separate units of a portable PID (ppb-RAE 3000) was performed. The evaluation was based on the preparation of a test air sample of known toluene or ethylacetate concentration in a Tedlar$^{(R)}$ bag. The test air sample was monitored and data were logged consecutively by the three PIDs. A certified gas of 50 ppm toluene was also monitored during the test to ensure the reliability of the generated test air sample. Four different concentrations ranging from 0.1 to 2 TLV were used and a series of five measurements for each concentration level was performed. The accuracy was evaluated using National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) criteria. Results: The results from the oldest ppb-RAE3000 unit among the three test units generally fell outside the NIOSH recommended accuracy criteria of ${\pm}25%$, whereas the other two units produced results which were acceptable at, or greater than, 25 ppm of toluene, or 0.5 TLV. These units also met the NIOSH criteria for some ethylacetate measurements but the results were not consistent. Conclusions: Considering the inconsistent performance of these ppb-RAE 3000 units, this device may not be appropriate for use as an alternative to the standard measurement methods. However, it can serve good survey instruments to identify exposure sources or concentration profiles. For all applications, the ppb-RAE 3000 should be used with frequent calibration checks, additional validation using a reference material, and careful maintenance.

Research on fault analysis and reliability improvement of APU start motor for Korea Utility Helicopter (한국형 기동헬기 APU 시동모터 결함원인 분석 및 신뢰성 개선)

  • Korea Utility Helicopter(KUH) is a project to replace the aging helicopter presently being operated by the military with a domestic helicopter. The auxiliary power unit is a device that supplies emergency power to the system by an alternator installed when the main generator fails and the start motor converts the electrical energy of the battery into mechanical rotational energy to rotate the auxiliary power unit engine. With continuing power and operation, defects of the starting motor were found and improvements were carried out to solve it. In the failure mode analysis, the causes of possible defects were classified into 5 categories. Analysis of the 5 factors revealed that the main cause of defects is mechanical wear, which was found to be related to spring pressure. 250 tests were conducted through the theoretically determined pressure and regression analysis was performed with 4 sampling.The results showed that pressure was related to wear rate. In conclusion, early wear and breakage due to wear can be controlled through spring force and test showed the prediction of wear and the validity of the result were confirmed.

Characteristics of Material Function Related to Permeability and Compressibility for Soft Clay Ground (투수 및 압축에 대한 연약 점토지반의 물질함수 특성)

  • It's essential process to study non-linear material function related to characteristics of compressibility and permeability when we predict the consolidation behavior of soft clay ground. In this study, laboratory tests were conducted to find out the material function using marine clay. Standard oedometer test and Rowe cell test were performed with conditions, which were classified into vertical drainage only, radial drainage only and vertical-radial drainage case. Modified oedometer test equipment was developed to find out the material function and special extrusion device was originated to minimize the sample disturbance effect. Reliability of the results in modified oedometer test could be confirmed by comparing with the Rowe cell's one. Effective stress - void ratio - permeability relations were analyzed using all testing results. As a result, void ratio with effective stress level could be expressed by the power function and permeability with void ratio could be expressed by exponential function. In soft clay with high initial water content and low shear strength, non-linear characteristics related to compressibility and permeability varied with wide range by the effective stress levels. It's important to note that non-linearity of the material function should be considered at prediction of the consolidation behavior.

Incident Detection for Urban Arterial Road by Adopting Car Navigation Data (차량 궤적 데이터를 활용한 도심부 간선도로의 돌발상황 검지)

  • Traffic congestion cost is more likely to occur in the inner city than interregional road, and it accounts for about 63.39% of the whole. Therefore, it is important to mitigate traffic congestion of the inner city. Traffic congestion in the urban could be divided into Recurrent congestion and Non-recurrent congestion. Quick and accurate detection of Non-recurrent congestion is also important in order to relieve traffic congestion. The existing studies about incident detection have been variously conducted, however it was limited to Uninterrupted Traffic Flow Facilities such as freeway. Moreover study of incident detection on the interrupted Traffic Flow Facilities is still inadequate due to complex geometric structure such as traffic signals and intersections. Therefore, in this study, incident detection model was constructed using by Artificial Neural Network to aim at urban arterial road that is interrupted traffic flow facility. In the result of the reliability assessment, the detection rate were 46.15% and false alarm rate were 25.00%. These results have a meaning as a result of the initial study aimed at interrupted traffic flow. Furthermore, it demonstrates the possibility that Non-recurrent congestion can be detected by using car navigation data such as car navigator system device.

The Improvement of Fabrication Process for a-Si:H TFT's Yield (a-Si:H TFT의 수율 향상을 위한 공정 개선)

  • TFT's have been intensively researched for possible electronic and display applications. Through tremendous engineering and scientific efforts, a-Si:H TFT fabrication process was greatly improved. In this paper, the reason on defects occurring at a-Si:H TFT fabrication process is analyzed and solved, so a-Si:H TFT's yield is increased and reliability is improved. The a-Si:H TFT of this paper is inverted staggered type TFT. The gate electrode is formed by patterning with length of $8{\mu}m{\sim}16{\mu}m$ and width of $80{\sim}200{\mu}m$ after depositing with gate electrode (Cr). We have fabricated a-SiN:H, conductor, etch-stopper and photo-resistor on gate electrode in sequence, respectively. We have deposited n+a-Si:H, NPR(Negative Photo Resister) layer after forming pattern of Cr gate electrode by etch-slower pattern. The NPR layer by inverting pattern of upper Sate electrode is patterned and the n+a-Si:H layer is etched by the NPR pattern. The NPR layer is removed. After Cr layer is deposited and patterned, the source-drain electrode is formed. The a-Si:H TFT made like this has problems at photo-lithography process caused by remains of PR. When sample is cleaned, this remains of PR makes thin chemical film on surface and damages device. Therefor, in order to improve this problem we added ashing process and cleaning process was enforced strictly. We can estimate that this method stabilizes fabrication process and makes to increase a-Si:H TFT's yield.
