Simple and high efficiency blue organic light-emitting diodes with three organic layers of N, N'-diphenyl-N,N'-bis-[4-(phenyl-m-tolylamino)-phenyl]-biphenyl-4,4'-diamine[DNTPD]/1,1-bis-(di-4-polya-minophenyl)cyclohexane[TAPC]/electron transport material [ET-137] were fabricated and their electroluminescent characteristics were evaluated according to the TAPC thickness variation in a range of $50{\sim}300{\AA}$. Electroluminescence spectra of the devices with structure of DNTPD/TAPC/ET-137 showed all the same central emission wavelengths of 455 nm under an applied voltage of 7V, which were similar with that of the device with ET-137 only. On the other hand, the electroluminescence spectra of the device with structure of DNTPD/ET-137 without TAPC layer showed double emission peaks at the wavelengths of 455 nm and 561 nm under an applied voltage of 7V. In the devices with structure of DNTPD/TAPC/ET-137, single peak blue emission was not maintained in the device with $50{\AA}$-thick TAPC above 8V by the formation of exciplex. In the device with $300{\AA}$-thick TAPC, however, single peak blue emission was maintained until 10 V. According to the thickness increase of TAPC in the fabricated devices, the current density and luminance decreased, but the luminous efficiency and roll-off characteristics were improved.

Microdisplays based on organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs) have a small form factor, and this can be a great advantage when applied to augmented reality and virtual reality devices. In addition, a high-resolution microdisplay of 3000 ppi or more can be achieved when applying a white OLED structure and a color filter. However, low luminance is the weakness of an OLED-based microdisplay as compared with other microdisplay technologies. By applying a tandem structure consisting of two separate emission layers, the efficiency of the OLED device is increased, and higher luminance can be achieved. The efficiency and white spectrum of the OLED device are affected by the position of the emitting layer in the tandem structure and calculated via optical simulation. Each white OLED device with optimized efficiency is fabricated according to the position of the emitting layer, and red, green, and blue spectrum and efficiency are confirmed after passing through color filters. The optimized white OLED device with color filters reaches 97.8% of the National Television Standards Committee standard.

Tandem organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs) do not always improve power efficiency over their conventional OLED counterparts. When a tandem OLED utilizes optimized EL units, increased power efficiency can only be achieved if the intermediate connector in the device has excellent charge injection capability.

We have developed a novel bipolar host material with both electron and hole transporting characteristics. Since CGH(Cheil Green Host) has some electron transporting characteristics, it shows increased luminance efficiency in device including TCTA and without HBL(hole blocking layer:BAlq). Maximum power efficency of CGH was 27.4lm/W at the device structure ITO/DNTPD(60)/NPB(20)/TCTA(10)/EML(30)/Alq3(20)/LIF(1)/Al. We measured device performance again without HBL. The result of CGH showing 26.0lm/W is outstanding compared to that of CBP showing 19.1lm/W without holeblocking layer. We also measured lifetime and found to be 205hr at 3000nit, that is significant result compared to the life time of CBP device showing 82hr. CGH shows high device performance with holeblocking layer. Moreover, it shows better device performance and life time than those of CBP without holeblocking.

In this study, a novel red emitting organic electroluminescent (EL) device was fabricated with the bis(8-oxyquinolino)zinc II (Znq2) doped dye as an emitting layer. The Znq2 was synthesized successfully from zinc chloride (ZnC1$_2$) as an initial material. Then, we fabricated the red organic EL device with a dye (DCJTB) doped and inserted Znq2 between emission layer and cathode for increasing EL efficiency. The hole transporting layer is a N,N'-diphenyl-N,N'-bis-(3-methylphenyl)-1,1'-diphenyl-4,4-diamine (TPD), and the host material of emission layer is Znq2. And the electrical and luminance characteristics of the device were measured. We found that the EL device with Znq2 inserting layer results in the increasing luminance efficiency.

A self-powered electrochromic device was fabricated on an indium tin oxide-polyethylene naphthalate flexible substrate using a dye-sensitized solar cell (DSSC) as a self-harvesting source; the electrochromic device was naturally bleached and operated under outdoor light conditions. The color of the organic electrochromic polymer, poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene) polystyrene sulfonate, was shifted from pale blue to deep blue with an antimony tin oxide film as a charge-balanced material. Electrochromic performance was enhanced by secondary doping using dimethyl sulfoxide. As a result, the device showed stable switching behavior with a high transmittance change difference of 40% at its specific wavelength of 630 nm for 6 hrs. To improve the efficiency of the solar cell, 1.0 wt.% of Ag NWs in the photoanode was applied to the $TiO_2$ photoanode. It resulted in an efficiency of 3.3%, leading to an operating voltage of 0.7 V under xenon lamp conditions. As a result, we built a standalone self-harvesting electrochromic system with the performance of transmittance switching of 29% at 630 nm, by connecting with two solar cells in a device. Thus, a self-harvesting and flexible device was fabricated to operate automatically under the irradiated/dark conditions.
A new technique for improving the efficiency of single-phase high-frequency boost converter is proposed. This converter includes an additional low-frequency boost converter which is connected to the main high-frequency switching device in parallel. The additional converter is controlled at lower frequency. Most of the current flows in the low-frequency switch and so, high-frequency switching loss is greatly reduced accordingly. Both switching device are controlled by a simple method; each controller consists of a comparator, a frequency generator and an error amplifier. The converter works cooperatively in high efficiency and acts as if it were a conventional high-frequency boost converter with one switching device, The proposed method is verified by simulation and experiment. This paper describes the converter configuration and design, and discusses the steady-state performance concerning the switching loss reduction and efficiency improvement.
This paper presents the experimental investigations of a system as a second treatment means to increase boiler efficiency and heat transfer from combustion gas to heating surfaces in the case of spray combustion. In order to reburn residual combustible components accelerate the burning rate of sprayed fuel droplets, improve the diffusion flame and delay the residence time of the flame, advice with slit type nozzles for spouting preheated supplementary air is used in this study. In the experiment, boiler efficiency and smoke concentration in the exhaust gas at given conditions are measured in both case of installing and not-installing device in the model of combustion chamber which was designed to be equipped with five surfaces. The results obtained in this experiment are as follows ; 1. The optimum values of air rate ${\lambda}$ are about 1.3 in both case. 2. The exhaust gas temperature in the case with device increases about $30{\sim}70^{\circ}C$ above that of the case without the device. 3. Boiler efficiency and reduction effect of smoke emissions are improved considerably.
We have fabricated simple triple-layer blue-emitting phosphorescent organic light emitting diodes (OLEDs) using different thicknesses (25 and 55 nm) of 2,9-dimethyl-4,7-diphenyl-1,10-phenanthroline (BCP) electron transport layers. 1,1-bis[4-bis (4-methylphenyl)- aminophenyllcyclohexane (TAPC), bis[(4,6-di-fluorophenyl)-pyridinate-$N,C^{2'}$]picolinate (FIrpic) and N,N' -dicarbazolyl-3,5-benzene (mCP) were used as hole transport, blue guest and host materials, respectively. The driving voltage, electroluminescence (EL) efficiency and emission characteristics of devices were investigated. The maximum EL efficiency was 20 cd/A in the device with 55 nm BCP layer, which efficiency was about 33% higher than the device with 25 nm BCP layer. The higher efficiency in the 55 nm BCP device resulted from the enhanced electron-hole balance. In the EL spectrum of blue phosphorescent OLED with BCP layer, the relative intensity between 470 and 500 nm peaks was related to the location of emission zone.
To investigate the effect of metal electrode in electroluminescent[EL] devices, we fabricated EL devices of ITO/P3HT/Al, ITO/P3HT/LiF/Al and ITO/P3HT/Mg:In structure. In current-voltage-light power characteristics, turn-on voltage of EL devices using LiF insulating layer and Mg:In(2.8V) metal electrode is lower than EL device using Al(4.2V). Besides the external quantum efficiency is improved also. The reason is related to carrier mobility and carrier injection, which would affect the hole-electron balance. In the device with Al electrode, holes injected from indium-tin-oxide[ITO] to poly(3-hexylthiophene)[P3HT] might reach the Al electrode without interacting with injected electrons, because the electron injection efficiency was very low for this electrode. Besides oxidation of the Al electrode is likely due to holes reaching the cathode without meeting injected electrons. Another possible reason for the higher EL efficiency may be the insulating layer playing the role of a tunneling barrier for holes to the Al electrode. In all EL devices, the orange-red light was clearly visible in a dark room. Maximum peak wavelength of EL spectrum emitted at 640nm in accordance with photon energy 1.9eV
