EFFECT OF FUEL STRATIFICATION ON INITIAL FLAME DEVELOPMENT: PART 1-WITHOUT SWIRL

  • For investigating the effect of fuel stratification on flame propagation, initial flame development and propagation were visualized under different axially stratified states in a port injection SI engine. Stratification was controlled by the combination of the port swirl ratio and injection timing. Experiments were performed in an optical single cylinder engine modified from a production engine and images were captured through the quartz window mounted in the piston by an intensified CCD camera. Firstly in this paper, the characteristics under no port-generated swirl condition, i.e. normal conventional case was studied. Under various stratified conditions, flame images were captured at the pre-set crank angles. These were averaged and processed to characterize the flames propagation. The flame stability was estimated by the weighted average of flame area and luminosity. The stability was also evaluated through the standard deviation of flame area and propagation distance, and mean absolute deviation of propagating direction. Results show that stratification state according to injection timing do not affect on the direction of flame propagation. The flame development and the initial flame stability are strongly dependent on the stratified conditions and the initial flame stability is closely related to the engine stability and lean misfire limit.

  • Morningness-Eveningness Questionnaire (MEQ) of Horne & Ostberg(1976) was translated into a Korean version, and MEQ and life habit inventory was administrated with approximately 900 university students. The distribution of MEQ score was normal. Arising time and bedtine for weekdays and holidays came in the order of morning type, intermediate and evening-type. And the deviation for the evening-type was greatest. Also, the deviation of sleep length for the evening-type was greater than the morning- type. There were tendencies that the bed time and arising time of the male were slightly later than those of the female, and the sleep length of the male was a little longer than that of the female. It also appeared that the arising time was later in the male who completed the military services than those who did not in the chronotype. And the sleep length of the non-served male was longer than that of the served one. Such tendencies noticeably appeared especially the evening-type. The evening-type was subject to heavy variability in bedtime. arising time, and sleep length. The sleep latency of the evening- type was longer and mood on arising was worse. And the ratio of nap or light sleep was higher in these subjects than in others. These results suggested that evening-type students had more irregular and/or flexible sleep-wake habits than the morning-type.

소결온도에 따른 ZnO 바리스터의 내환경 특성 (Environmental Properties of ZnO Varistors with Variation of Sintering Temperature)

  • ZnO varistor ceramics added a glass-frit 0.03 $wt\%$ were fabricated with variation of sintering temperature. The sintering temperature and time were $1125^{\circ}C\~1200^{\circ}C$ and 2 h. The average grain sizes increased and the varistor voltage decreased with increasing the sintering temperature. The values of the specimen sintered at $1200^{\circ}C$ were $23.7\;{\mu}m$ and 329 V, respectively. The leakage current of all specimens was less than $1\;{\mu}A$ at DC $82\%$ of varistor voltage. The clamping voltage ratio of the specimen sintered at $1175^{\circ}C$ was 1.37. The endurance of surge current and the deviation of varistor voltage of the specimen sintered at $1175^{\circ}C$ were 6400 $A/cm^2$ and ${\Delta}-2.81\%$, respectively. After the High Temperature Load Test(HTLT) at $85^{\circ}C$ for 1000 h, the specimen sintered at $1175^{\circ}C$ showed the lowest deviation of varistor voltage of ${\Delta}-1.92\%$.

  • This document illustrates the way to control of coiling temperature(CTC) of stip tail part in minimill process. The coiling temperature (CT) is very important fact in hot rolling process because the mechnical properties of strip depend on it. In mini-mill pocess, the speed pattern of rolling is different from that of conventional hot rolling. We have a lot of difficulties in controlling the coiling temperature at strip tail part, because after the strip tail is passed out the final stand, it's impossible to control the coiling temperature by using coiling speed. So we have CT deveiation in this gauge, about 160$^{\circ}C$ below in comparison with target CT. It's clear that deviation of mechanical properties(tensile strength, vield ratio etc) of strip to direction of length is so large, so we could not produce middle carbon steel, like this temperature condition. New coiling temperature control of strip especially in strip tail was developed. The loss coefficient for fluctuating flow through a dominant opening in a building

  • Wind-induced fluctuating internal pressures in a building with a dominant opening can be described by a second-order non-linear differential equation. However, the accuracy and efficiency of the governing equation in predicting internal pressure fluctuations depend upon two ill-defined parameters: inertial coefficient $C_I$ and loss coefficient $C_L$, since $C_I$ determines the un-damped oscillation frequency of an air slug at the opening, while $C_L$ controls the decay ratio of the fluctuating internal pressure. This study particularly focused on the value of loss coefficient and its influence factors including: opening configuration and location, internal volumes, as well as wind speed and approaching flow turbulence. A simplified formula was presented to predict loss coefficient, therefore an approximate relationship between the standard deviation of internal and external pressures can be estimated using Vickery's approach. The study shows that the loss coefficient governs the peak response of the internal pressure spectrum which, in turn, will directly influence the standard deviation of the fluctuating internal pressure. The approaching flow characteristic and opening location have a remarkable effect on the parameter $C_L$.

연료첨가제 주입에 따른 승용차의 규제물질 배출특성 분석 (Characteristic Analysis of Regulated Pollutants Emitted from Passenger Cars according to Fuel Additives)

  • This paper was designed to investigate emission characteristics of regulated pollutants (CO, HC, NOx and PM) from 134 diesel and gasoline passenger cars based on emission standards according to fuel additives. The experiments using chassis dynamometer were conducted under NEDC and CVS-75 modes. Comparison for fuel additive management and test between Korea, USA, EU and Japan, Korea was more strict than others. The fuel additives of this study was satisfied within fuel manufacturing standards. For with/without fuel additives according to diesel emission standards, NOx of EURO 4 and EURO 5 showed a relatively similar tendency. In the case of PM reduction rate, EURO 5 was over 20% increased than EURO 4. In the case of standard deviation/average ratio for gasoline vehicles, variation interval was big for LEV 23.3~58% and ULEV 31.6~56.4%. Following the imposition of stricter regulations (EURO 5 and ULEV), difference rate for standard deviation was big. Especially, in the case of diesel vehicles, difference rate for NOx 68% and PM 48% was most big. The results of present study will be of assistance in completing the legislative process and will provide basic data to set up emission standards for fuel additives in Korea.

가뭄기간의 저수지 운영방안에 관한 연구 (The Study of Reservoir Operation for Drought Period)

  • In this study the results of optimal water supply analysis by operating constraints of reservoirs during drought period are as follows. During drought period, water supply reliability is possible about $97\~61{\%}$ by CASE 1-CASE 5. Water supply reliability is possible about $97.3{\%}$ in case of the Andong dam and $87.7{\%}$ in case of the Imha dam by CASE 3. Also, under the constraints of CASE 4, water supply reliability is possible about $87.5{\%}$ in case of the Andong dam and $73.3{\%}$ in case of the Imha dam. The reason what low of available water supply ratio is decreased inflow of Imha dam. When compare standard deviation of average storage with standard deviation of storage, stable storage can be secured during successive drought period. And it also can minimize shortage of water during drought. therefore, it is impossible that reservoir supply sufficient water but change of operating condition is better than pervious on that followed by full reservoir level. It is need that the study for optimal water supply during drought period has to be continued.

  • ZnO varistor ceramics which were fabricated with variation of added of 0.01, 0.02, 0.03, 0.05, 0.1mol% $Nb_2O_5$ sintered at $1150^{\circ}C$. In the specimen added 0.05mol% $Nb_2O_5$, sintered density was $5.87g/cm^3$ and electrical properties were superior to any other components. The nonlinear coefficient was 75, and clamping voltage ratio was 1.40. And, endurance surge current in the specimen added 0.05mol% $Nb_2O_5$ was $6500A/cm^2$, and deviation of varistor voltage was -1.7%. As P.C.T and T.C.T environment test were succeed in all specimens, and deviation of varistor voltage in the specimen added 0.3mol% $Nb_2O_5$ was -0.81%. All specimens showed a good leakage current property in the High Temperature Continuous Load Test for 1000hr, at $85^{\circ}C$, and variation rate of the varistor voltage was -1.71%.

As P.C.T and T.C.T environmental test were succeed in all specimens, and deviation of varistor voltage in the specimen added 0.6 mol% Co$_3$O$_4$ was Δ-0.81 %. All specimens showed good leakage current property on the High Temperature Continuous Load Test(HTCLT) for 1000 hr at 85 $^{\circ}C$ and variation rate of the varistor voltage below Δ-2.0 %.
