  • Perfluorinated chemicals (PFCs) is a kinds of persistent organic pollutants, and have the potential toxicity of which is causing great concern. In this study, we employed Oryzias latipes embryos to investigate the developmental toxicity of perfluorooctane sulfonate (PFOS) and perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA)s compound using flowthrow system for 14 day. O. latipes embryos were exposed to solvent control, 20, 40 and 80 mg/L of PFOS and 62.5, 130, 260 mg/L of PFOA respectively. After exposure, hatchability, mortality, total length and heart beats were examined. Hatching rates were reduced approximately 27% in the 80 mg/L PFOS-treated group and 17% in the 62.5, 130 mg/L PFOA-treated groups. Heart beats in the PFOS-treated groups were reduced at 7 day but, PFOA-treated groups were increased heart beats. 80 mg/L PFOS treated group showed significant reduction in growth (total length) level to 90% of control. But PFOA did not showed significant effect on growth. In the 14 days $LC_{50}$ of PFOS and PFOA was 22.74 mg/L and 173 mg/L, respectively. The overall results indicated that the early stage of O. latipes might be a reliable model for the testing of developmental toxicity to perfluorinated chemicals.

  • Genome analysis of a model filamentous fungus, Aspergillus nidulans, revealed that there are six putative forkhead genes. Among them, fkhF (AN8949.2) showed A. nidulans-specific. fkhF gene is located in chromosome VII and composed of 2,337 bp coding region for 778 amino acid. Since little is known about the involvement of the forkhead proteins in the developmental process of the filamentous fungi, including A. nidulans, we generated a deletion mutant of fkhF gene and analyzed. Deletion of fkhF resulted in less-dense conidiophore formation in a solid culture. However, the sexual developmental process or cleistothecia formation was normal. Furthermore, fkhF deletion mutant produced conidiophores and conidia under the submerged culture, suggesting that the fkhF gene is involved in repression of inappropriated induction and maturation of asexual developmental process but not in sexual development.

  • Along with the trend of internet use, various web application developments have been performed to provide information that was managed in the internal database on the web by making a web server page. However, in most cases, a direct program was made without a systematic developmental methodology or with the application of a huge developmental methodology that is inappropriate and decreased the efficiency of the development. A web application that fails to follow a systematic developmental methodology and uses a script language can decrease the productivity of the program development, maintenance, and reuse. In this thesis, the auto writing tool for a dynamic web server page was designed and established by using a database for web application development based on a fast and effective script. It suggests a regularized script model and makes a standardized script for the data bound control tag creator by analyzing a dynamic web server page pattern with the database in order to contribute to productivity by being used in the web application development and maintenance.

  • Cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) and inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS) are involved in various pathophysiological processes such as inflammation and carcinogenesis. In a search for inhibitors of COX-2 and iNOS production we found that extracts of Stewartia koreana strongly inhibited NO and $PGE_2$ production in LPS-treated macrophage RAW 264.7 cells. We have now shown that the mRNA and protein levels of iNOS and COX-2 are reduced by the Stewartia koreana extract (SKE). SKE inhibited expression of an NF-${\kappa}B$ reporter gene in response to LPS, and gel mobility shift assays revealed that SKE reduced NF-${\kappa}B$ DNA-binding activity. The extract also inhibited LPS-induced phosphorylation of $I{\kappa}B-{\alpha}$ and nuclear translocation of p65. Administration of the extract reduced the symptoms of arthritis in a collagen-induced arthritic mouse model. These results indicate that Stewartia extracts contain potentially useful agents for preventing and treating inflammatory diseases.

  • Background: This study examined the effect of having a usual source of care on the degree of patient-centered communication among persons with disability. The role of the usual source of care has been emphasized to improve patient experience, especially for patients with complex health conditions. Methods: This study used the 2017-2018 Korean Health Panel data, and the final study observations were 22,475 (20,806 people without disability and 1,669 people with disability). We applied generalized estimating equation model to show the effect of having a usual source of care on patient-centered communication, and subgroup analysis considering the types and severity of disabilities. Results: Persons who have disabilities, compared with ones without it, significantly had more usual sources of care (32.4% vs. 24.6%). By type of disability, persons with mental (51.4%), internal organ (43.8%), visual (37%), and physical disabilities (31.6%) had more usual sources of care than hearing/speech (26.6%), and developmental disabilities (18.6%). The average score of patient-centered communication was higher among who had a usual sources of care (3.2 vs. 2.7), and the regression analysis showed that having a usual sources of care was positively associated with higher patient-centered communication score (𝛽=0.476, p<0.05). However, the positive effects of usual sources of care was not observed among persons with severe hearing/speech, developmental, and mental disabilities. Conclusion: This study showed that role of patient-centered communication was limited in persons with severe hearing/speech disabilities, developmental, and mental disabilities. The education programs and supports are needed to improve communication skills between medical staff and persons with specific types of disabilities.

  • The biggest type of behavior that prevents people with developmental disabilities from entering society is aggressive behavior. Aggressive behavior can pose a threat not only to the personal safety of the person with a developmental disability, but also to the physical safety of others. In this study, we propose a wearable system using a low-power processor. The proposed system uses an IMU (Inertial Measurement Unit) to analyze user behavior, and when attack behavior is not detected for a certain period of time through an LED array attached to the developed system, an interesting LED is displayed. By expressing patterns, we provide behavioral intervention through compensation to people with developmental disabilities. In order to implement a system that must be worn for a long time in a power-limited environment, we present a method to optimize performance and energy consumption across all stages, from data preprocessing to AI model application.

  • This study investigates the change in two theoretical constructs, attitudes toward mathematics and mathematics self-efficacy, among college students involved in a learning community model. The case of this study was a developmental mathematics class offered at a historically black college located in the southeastern United States. Subjects included 31 students enrolled in an introductory mathematics course, some of whom participated in a learning community (treatment group). The participants completed mathematics attitudes and mathematics efficacy instruments twice: at the beginning of the semester and again at the end. Data was analyzed using descriptive statistics and a non-parametric statistic. The results showed that students' attitudes toward mathematics and mathematics self-efficacy are strongly correlated; the mathematical problem-solving efficacy changed significantly over time and it is significantly higher in the treatment group than in the control group; and the treatment group produced better outcomes. These findings indicate that a learning community model can increase students' mathematics self-efficacy beliefs. It is recommended that mathematics self-efficacy and attitudes toward mathematics be measured over an extended period of time when a learning community is implemented.

  • Public sectors around the world utilize social media tools and technologies in their daily activities for a variety of purposes, including disseminating useful information, fostering mass collaboration, and enforcing laws and regulations. A number of social media-based government stage models have emerged to document this use. In this chapter, we conducted a qualitative meta-synthesis of four social media-based government models. These models include 1) the open government maturity model, 2) the social media utilization model, 3) the adoption process for social media, and 4) the social media-based engagement model. The concepts, metaphors, and themes contained in these developmental models are extracted through a series of in-depth semantic analyses of descriptions, resulting in a common frame of reference.

  • Coagulation involves the regulated sequence of proteolytic activation of a series of proteins to achieve appropriate and timely hemostasis in an injured vessel. In the non-pathological state, the inciting event involves exposure of circulating factor VIIa to extravascularly expressed tissue factor, which brings into motion the series of steps which results in cell based model of coagulation. In the new concepts of coagulation system, initiation, amplification and propagation steps are involved to converse of fibrinogen to fibrin. The precisely synchronized cascade of events is counter-balanced by a system of anticoagulant mechanisms. Developmental hemostasis refers to the age-related changes in the coagulation system that are most marked during neonate and childhood. An understanding of these changes in crucial to the accurate diagnosis of hemostatic abnormalities in neonate and children. This review aims to elucidate the main events within the coagulation cascade as it is currently understood to operate in vivo, and also a short review of the anticoagulants as they relate to this model. Also this paper describes the common pitfalls observed in the clinical data related to the coagulation system in neonate to children.

  • Language learning involves linguistic environments around the learner. So the variation in training input to which the learner is exposed has been linked to their language learning. We explore how linguistic experiences can cause differences in learning linguistic structural features, as investigate in a probabilistic graphical model. We manipulate the amounts of training input, composed of natural linguistic data from animation videos for children, from holistic (one-word expression) to compositional (two- to six-word one) gradually. The recognition and generation of sentences are a "probabilistic" constraint satisfaction process which is based on massively parallel DNA chemistry. Random sentence generation tasks succeed when networks begin with limited sentential lengths and vocabulary sizes and gradually expand with larger ones, like children's cognitive development in learning. This model supports the suggestion that variations in early linguistic environments with developmental steps may be useful for facilitating language acquisition.
