It was investigated whether or not flight has any effects on oviposition and colony development of the artificially hibernated Bombus terrestris queen and ,$CO_2$-treated queen. Flight periods were defined as 0 days (control), 1 day, 3 days and 6 days. The weights of queens after flight were 1.5-8.9% lower than those before flight depending on the flight periods. The oviposition and colony development of artificially hibernated and $CO_2$-treated B. terrestris queen were affected by the flight. Among flight periods tested, in particular, the queens start to flight for 3 days showed better flight effect than those other flight periods in the colony development, rate of colony foundation, rate of progeny-queen production, the number of worker and queen produced. But, the longer the flight periods is, the worse the oviposition and colony development of the queens hibernated artificially and $CO_2$-treated are (i.e., the 6 days-flight queen).

The physicochemical characteristics and antioxidant activity of several varieties of foxtail millet were evaluated across different seeding periods. Results indicated the moisture, crude ash, fat, protein, and carbohydrate levels of the foxtail millet differed significantly according to the variety and seeding periods. The crude protein contents were highest when harvested during the early-season seeding periods; However, carbohydrate contents were highest when harvested during the late-season seeding periods. The lightness and yellowness of the Hwanggeumjo variety increased significantly as the seeding periods were delayed though the color of the Samdame variety decreased. The swelling power of foxtail millet increased as the seeding periods were delayed. Total polyphenol contents of the Hwanggeumjo and Samdame varieties were 298.68~315.13 and 288.84~297.73 mg GAE/100 g, and flavonoid contents were 181.32~172.92 and 172.49~183.86 mg CE/100 g, respectively. DPPH radical scavenging activity was 104.70~126.89 and 111.75~136.92 mg TE/100 g, and ABTS radical scavenging activity was 88.69~114.64 and 69.80~100.09 mg TE/100 g, respectively. Total polyphenol contents and the radical scavenging activity of Hwanggeumjo were highest when harvested during the seeding periods of the early-season, and Samdame was highest when harvested during the seeding periods of the late-season.
The objectives of this study were to compare rural development of Korea and EU. According to its traits the peroids of rural development of Korea can be divided into low periods. According to its memberships and traits the periods of rural development of EU can be divided into low periods. There are many similarities between Korea and EU in agricultural situation and rural development. EU introduced multifunctionality of agriculture in 1980s and adopt strong policy to support that in 1990s. And EU made a effort sustainable rural development, integrated rural development and balanced regional development. Recently Korea not only maintain agricultural expanisionism but also pay attention to multifunctionality of agriculture. But rural development of Korea still in the stage of physical planning and agricultural expanisionism. So it leaves much room for improvement to rural development of Korea in rural development regulation, unifying theme, detail planning, integration among policies, balanced regional development, etc.
The proximate compositions, quality and physicochemical characteristics of mung-bean cultivars cultivated in the north-central region of South Korea with different seeding periods were evaluated. A significant difference was noted in the proximate compositions and chromaticity of mung-beans according to cultivars and different seeding periods. Crude ash and protein content decreased with the delay in seeding period and a slight increase in carbohydrate content was observed. Redness of the other five cultivars increased with the delay in seeding period except for the cultivar Jangan, while the yellowness decreased in cultivars Geumsung and Jangan. Water binding capacity of the $1^{st}$, $2^{nd}$ and $3^{rd}$ seeding on the cultivar Eoul was 115.15, 99.76 and 96.31%, respectively, and a decrease in the binding capacity was observed with the delay in seeding periods. Water solubility index and swelling power were significantly different among cultivars. Total polyphenol content of $1^{st}$ and $2^{nd}$ seeding on the cultivar Jangan was 8.59 and 8.57 mg GAE/g, respectively, and a decrease was observed with the delay in seeding periods except for the cultivar Sohyeon. Total flavonoid content of $1^{st}$ seeding on the cultivar Jangan was 5.25 mg CE/g, which decreased with the delay in seeding periods. DPPH radical scavenging activity of $1^{st}$ seeding on the cultivars Geumsung and Kyungseon was 2.44 and 2.32 mg TE/g, respectively, which decreased with the delay in seeding periods. The BTS radical scavenging activity of $1^{st}$ seeding on the cultivar Jangan was 6.98 mg TE/g. In the present study, the variations in phenol content and radical scavenging activity were observed to be dependent on the cultivars and seeding periods.

Livestock production costs are heavily influenced by the cost of feed, The use of domestically grown forages is more desirable for livestock feed production. As part of this study, triticale, which is an extremely palatable and easily cultivable crop in Korea, was used to produce low moisture silage bales with lactic acid bacteria (LAB) and then stored for different periods. We examined the nutrient content of silage, such as crude protein (CP), acid detergent fiber (ADF) and neutral detergent fiber (NDF), as well as their organic acids, including lactic acid, acetic acid, butyric acid, at different storage periods. The nutrient content of silages, such as crude protein, ADF, and NDF, did not change significantly throughout storage periods. Organic acid data indicated that lactic acid concentrations increased with increasing moisture contents and storage periods up to nine months. However, further extending storage to 12 months resulted in a reduction in the lactic acid content of all silages as well as an increase in their pH. Based on the present results, it suggested that the production of low moisture silage with the LAB may be able to preserve and maintain its quality without altering its nutritional composition. Also, the lactate content of the silage remained significant for at least nine months.
In the design of super tankers or LNG carriers, which transport a large amount of liquid in the cargo tanks, the structural d11mage due to liquid sloshing is an important problem. The impact pressure from sloshing is most violent when the liquid motion of a partially filled tank is in resonance with the motion of a ship. In this study, the sloshing natural periods of a baffled tank, often installed to reduce liquid motion, is analyzed. A variational method is adopted to estimate the sloshing natural periods for a prismatic cargo tank with baffles of arbitrary filling depth of liquid; the results are compared with Lloyd's Register regulations on sloshing periods. In this study, using an effective liquid-fill-depth concept, sloshing periods for a baffled tank can be expressed by the same form as rectangular prismatic tanks without baffles. In contrast to Lloyd's Register regulations, which can be applicable only to cargo tanks with constant baffle size and distribution, the present results can be applicable to cases of variable baffle size and distribution.
The quality and antioxidant characteristics of apios (Apios americana Medikus) according to different harvest periods and steaming treatment were investigated. The quality and antioxidant characteristics of apios were significantly different depending on harvest periods. Total starch contents was higher in 1st harvesting period as 62.32 g/100 g than other harvesting period. The water binding capacity and water solubility index was higher in 1st harvesting period as 228.65 and 11.29% than other harvesting period. The sucrose and total free sugar contents were 3.64~8.67 and 4.49~9.54 g/100 g, respectively. Total polyphenol and flavonoid contents of apios was the highest 2nd and 4th harvesting period at 4.21 mg GAE/g and 611.11 ㎍ CE/g, respectively. DPPH radical scavenging activity was higher in 1st harvesting period as 84.96 mg TE/100 g than other harvesting period, and decreased as the harvest periods were delayed. ABTS radical scavenging activity and ferric-reducing antioxidant power were 43.81~47.89 mg TE/g and 231.20~264.07 mM/100 g, and increased to 50.58~51.44 mg TE/g and 342.55~384.29 mM/100 g after heat treatment. As a result, it is thought that studies on change of quality and physicochemical characteristics according to cultivation characteristics should be preceded for cultivation stability of apios.
To investigate the characteristics of internal waves (IWs) and their effects on acoustic wave propagation, a series of sea experiment were performed in the east coast of Donghae city, Korea in 1997 and 1998 where the water depth varies between 130 and 140 m. Thermistor strings were deployed to measure water temperatures simultaneously at 9 depths. CW source signals with the frequencies of 250,670 and 1000 Hz were received by an array of 15 hydrophones. Through the Wavelet transform analysis, the IWs are characterized as having typical periods of 2-17 min and duration of 1-2 hours. The IWs exist in a group of periods rather than in one period. Underwater acoustic signals also show obvious energy peaks in the periods of less than 12 min. Consistency in the periods of the two physical processes implies that acoustic waves react to the IWs through some mechanisms like mode interference and travel time fluctuation. Based on the thermistor string data, mode arriving structures are analyzed. As thermocline depth varies with time, it may cause travel time difference as much as 4-10 ms between mode 1 and 2 over 10 km range. This travel time difference causes interference among modes and thus fluctuation from range-independent stratified ocean structure. In real situations, however, there exist additional spatial variation of IWs. Model simulations with all modes and simple IWs show clear responses of acoustic signals to the IWs, i.e., fluctuations of amplitude and phase.
The aim of this study was to compare community structure of larval fish species in the northern East China Sea during normal meteorological conditions in autumn 2009, during the El Ni$\tilde{n}$o period in 2009-2010, and during the La Nina period in 2010. Fifty taxa were recorded during the study period; the most dominant species were Benthosema pterotum and Gobiidae spp. In October 2008 during the normal period, warm water from the Tsushima Warm Current (TWC) intruded more into the surface and middle layers, and cold water affected by the Yellow Sea Cold Water (YSCW) intruded into the bottom layer. In October 2009 during the El Ni$\tilde{n}$o period, intrusion of the China Coastal Water (CCW), which has low salinity (<32.2 psu), was more apparent than intrusion of the TWC or YSCW. In October 2010 during the La Nina period, intrusion of the TWC and CCW was relatively weak, resulting in the lowest temperature and highest salinity observed during the study period in the eastern part of the study area. Hierarchical cluster, one-way ANOSIM (analysis of similarities), and SIMPER (similarity-percentages procedure) analyses provided two main results. First, the abundance of the most dominant larval fish species in autumn of the normal period was greater than that in autumn of the El Ni$\tilde{n}$o/La Nina periods, resulting in a significant difference in ichthyoplankton community structure between the periods. The abundance of Benthosema pterotum increased in the normal period, possibly influenced by the intrusion of cold water from the YSCW; the abundance of species residing in Korean waters (e.g., Gobiidae spp.) probably decreased during the El Ni$\tilde{n}$o/La Nina periods. The second finding was that the abundance of subtropical larval fish in autumn of the normal period was generally larger than that during autumn of the El Ni$\tilde{n}$o/La Nina periods. This could have been induced by the stronger intrusion of warm water from the TWC during the normal period. Although differences in oceanographic conditions between El Ni$\tilde{n}$o and La Nina periods were observed, the differences in ichthyoplankton community structure between the two periods were not significant.
Objective of this study was to investigate the influences of harvest index and percolation water quality as irrigated the discharge waters from an industrial and a municipal wastewater treatment plants and seawater (1:5 seawater: tap water) as alternative water resources during tillering stage for drought stress. There were four different treatments such as the discharge water from an industrial (textile dyeing manufacture plant) wastewater treatment plant (DIWT), discharge water from the municipal wastewater treatment plant (DMWT), seawater (1:5) and groundwater as a control. For the initial chemical compositions of alternative waters, it appeared that higher concentrations of COD, $Mn^{2+}$, and $Ni^+$ in DIWT were observed than reused criteria of other country for irrigation, and concentrations of $EC_i$, Cl, and $SO_4$ in seawater were higher than that for irrigation. Harvest index was not significantly different between DIWT and DMWT with different irrigation periods in two soil types, but that of seawater (1:5) is decreased with irrigation periods in clay loam soil and not different between 10 days and 20 days of irrigation periods in sandy loam soil. For percolation water qualities, values of sodium adsorption ratio (SAR) are increased with prolonging the irrigation periods of seawater (1:5) and DIWT, but those of DMWT were almost constant through the cultivation periods regardless of the irrigation period in both soil types. EG of percolation waters is eventually increased with prolonging days after irrigation regardless of irrigation periods in both soil types. Therefore, it might be concluded that there was potentially safe to irrigate the discharge water from municipal wastewater treatment plant relative to harvest index, SAR and $EC_i$ values of the ground water through the rice cultivation period at tillering stage for drought period.
