The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of dental plaque control depending on the detergent foods. Study design was a nonequivalent control group design. Study subjects were 14 males (38.8%) and 22 females (61.1%), the age of 20.6 years old. It was conducted from March 7 to June 13, 2012. The Patient Hygiene Performance index (PHP index) was measured as a dependent variable. Detergent foods were cucumber, pear, carrot, and peach. The PHP index of detergents foods were compared using ANOVA. Paired t-test was performed. SPSS ver. 18.0 was used for the data analysis. All detergent foods which cucumber ($2.85{\pm}1.01$), pear ($2.82{\pm}0.93$), peach ($2.48{\pm}1.12$), and carrot ($2.75{\pm}0.68$) was a significant decrease in plaque index (p<0.05). However, there was no significant difference among detergent foods. Detergent foods are effective in dental plaque control. However, no difference was shown depending on the detergent foods.
Objective: This experiment was conducted to determine the differences in the apparent ileal (AID) and total tract digestibility (ATTD) of nutrients and indispensable amino acids (IAA) in high-fiber diets with wheat middlings, rice bran or alfalfa meal fed to Duroc${\times}$(Landrace${\times}$Yorkshire) (DLY) and Duroc${\times}$ (Berkshire${\times}$Jiaxing) (DBJ) growing barrows. Methods: Eighteen DLY and 18 DBJ growing barrows were randomly allotted to a $2{\times}3$ factorial arrangement involving 2 crossbreeds and 3 high-fiber diets. The experiment lasted 15 d with 10 d for diets adaptation, 3 d for feces collection and 2 d for digesta collection. Three diets were based on corn and soybean meal with 25% wheat middlings, rice bran and alfalfa meal respectively. Results: DBJ had a greater (p<0.05) AID of isoleucine, leucine, lysine, phenylalanine and valine and a lower (p<0.05) AID of methionine than DLY. The hindgut disappearance of acid detergent fiber for DBJ was greater (p<0.05) than DLY. The ATTD of gross energy, dry matter, organic matter, neutral detergent fiber and acid detergent fiber in wheat middlings diet were greater (p<0.05) than in rice bran and alfalfa meal diets. The hindgut disappearance of neutral detergent fiber and acid detergent fiber in wheat middlings diet or rice bran diet were the highest or lowest (p<0.05), and those of alfalfa meal diet were the middle. Barrows fed rice bran diet had a greater (p<0.05) hindgut disappearance of gross energy, dry matter and organic matter and lower hindgut disappearance of neutral detergent fiber and acid detergent fiber than barrows fed alfalfa meal diet Conclusion: DBJ growing barrows showed a significant higher digestibility of fiber in the hindgut and most IAA in the small intestine compared with DLY barrows. The digestibilities of chemical constituents and IAA were affected by the diets formulated with different fiber sources.

This study was conducted to determine the washing conditions in which surfactants were not detected after washing fruits and vegetables with detergent. Residual surfactants were analyzed using LC-MS/MS. The analyzed surfactants were LAS, SLES, AOS, SLS, CAPB, and LDAO. The survey found that 14% of the respondents used detergent correctly according to the directions indicated. After soaking the samples with 0.2% detergent, the average residual surfactant content was 2.61%. Soaking under 1% and 5% of the detergent, 4.68-5.50% of surfactant remained in the sample. In cherry tomatoes, the surfactants were below the LOD after rinsing twice. However, lettuce was rinsed three times. These results suggest that when using detergent for washing fruits and vegetables, following the labelled usage and rinsing at least three times in 30 seconds could minimize residual surfactants.

A validation study was conducted to determine the efficacy of solvent/Detergent (S/D) inactivation and Q-Sepharose column chromatographic removal of the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) during the manufacturing of a high purity antihemopilic factor VIII (GreenMono) from human plasma. S/D treatment using the organic solvent, tri (n-butyl) phosphate, and the detergent, Trition X-100, was a robust and effective step in eliminating HIV-1. The HIV-1 titer was reduced from an initial titer of 8.3 log10 TCID50 to undetectable levels within one minute of S/D treatment, HIV-1 was effectively partitioned form factor VIII during Q-Sepharose column chromatography with the log reduction factor of 4.1 . These results strongly assure the safety of GreenMono From HIV.
Himalayan dock (Rumex nepalensis) was evaluated for forage value and antinutrients under three, five and seven weeks cutting intervals in the temperate environment. Dry matter (DM) content was measured for each cutting interval. Forage quality parameters such as Crude Protein (CP), Acid Detergent fiber (ADF), Neutral Detergent Fiber (NDF), Calcium (Ca) and Phosphorus (P) were analyzed. Plants with seven weeks cutting interval gave higher DM yield. CP and P content were significantly higher for three weeks cutting intervals. Average CP contents were 31.38 %, 30.73 % and 27.32 % and average P content 0.58 %, 0.52 % and 0.51 % for three, five and seven weeks cutting intervals, respectively. Ca content did not differ significantly between cutting intervals. The average Ca content were 0.91 %, 0.90 % and 90 %, for three, five and seven weeks cutting intervals, respectively. Tannin and mimosine contents were not significantly different between cutting intervals. Average tannin contents were 1.32 %, 1.27 % and 1.26 % and mimosine 0.38 %, 0.30 % and 0.28 % for three, five and seven weeks cutting intervals, respectively. The study concluded that R. nepalensis could be a potential source of protein for livestock. The study also suggests seven weeks harvesting interval to provide plants with high dry matter yield, high forage quality and very low levels of anti-nutrients.
In this study, removal efficiencies of pesticides on apples and peppers with water, dishwashing detergent, and alcoholic disinfectant were investigated by Gas Chromatography. Different conditions of pretreatment for increase of pesticide recovery were investigated for optimum condition. In our experiment, the supelco-STB-608 column and electron capture detector(ECD) were used to analyze pesticides residue. Removal efficiency of pesticide was in the order of alcoholic disinfectant>dishwashing detergent>water.

An aqueous solution of a commercial liquid synthetic detergent for kitchen use was photodecomposed in the presence of titanium dioxides powder under an atmosphere of air at room temperature. Titanium dioxides were prepared by sol-gel method from titanium iso-propoxide at different R ratio($H_2O$/titanium iso-propoxide) and calcined at $500^{\circ}C$. All titanium dioxides were characterized by XRD, BET surface area analyzer and UV-VIS spectrometer. The surface area of titanium dioxides prepared at R ratio=6 appeared higher volume about 20% than commercial $TiO_2$ catalysts. XRD patterns of titania particles were observed mixing phase together with rutile and anatase type. Titanium dioxides prepared by sol-gel method show higher activity about 6% than commercial $TiO_2$ catalysts on the photocatalytic degradation of a commercial liquid synthetic detergent for kitchen. The concentration of the detergent decreased to about 90% of its initial value at illumination times of 2 hour. Illumination for 30 minutes decreased the concentration of oxygen to about one-fifth of the initial value.
The goal of this study is to develop test method for evaluating the drug eluting properties of drug eluting stents (DES). PBS and the detergent solutions, presented by each DES manufacturer, were used for drug release of DES coated with paclitaxel, zotarolimus and everolimus. The drugs which are coating DES were not released by PBS but released by the detergent solutions, finally paclitaxel 83.38%, zotarolimus 103.85% and everolimus 115.78%. It seems that the use of the detergents is necessary in order to release the drugs because those drugs are extremely hydrophobic. In conclusion, using of detergent solutions presented by each manufacturer were suitable for evaluating the drug eluting property of drug eluting stent.

This study analyed the results of the survey on the actual condition and the attitude in using laundry detergents of housewives in Jeonbuk region centering around Jeonju\ulcornerGunsan. The purpose of this study is to give more reasonable and scientific clothing management and to help to solve the problems of the environmental pollution caused by laundry detergents. Both Jeonju(71.4%) and Gunsan(71.0%) got informations about environmental pollution through mass media like TV and Radio. As for the degree of recognition of regenerated soap, comparing with the synthetic detergent, most people thought that the regenerated soap had better detergency, less water pollution, and less harm to the human being than the synthetic detergent. Accordingly, it showed they misconceived it. It showed that the aged consumers in Jeonju and Gunsan had all good attitudes for the practice. As roles of consumers toward the problems of environmental pollution, the respondents who thought that the consumers roles were important took high percentage(Jeonju 86.8% and Gunsan 84.5%). In conclusion, they showed high degree of concerns in the recognition of necessity about the proper use of detergent, however, low in their attitudes in real life applications.
Recently, interests of dietary fiber associated with critical physiological effects have been rising in Korea physiological effect in the body. In the present study, the contents of fiber components in 15 kinds of vegetables being consumed commonly in Korea were investigated, and the effects of various treatments (cooking and Kimchi fermentation) on fiber were studied. The results are summarized as follows. Fiber contents of vegetables were 11.8∼31.9% of neutral detergent fiber(NDF), total insoluble dietary fiber, 10.9∼25.4% of acid detergent fiber(ADF), 8.8∼23.8% of cellulose, 0.6∼10.6% of hemicellulose and 1.0∼5.2% of lignin, on dry weight basis. Especially, peppers had higher contents of NDF than the other vegetables. In the vegetables used in the present study, it was found that a great portion of NDF, total insoluble dietary fiber, was composed of cellulose because cellulose covered 63% of NDF. 'Cooking increased the NDF, ADF and cellulose contents, and most change was due to the change of cellulose. The values of hemicellulose and lignin showed an Irregular pattern upon cooking. Fermentation slightly increased NDF, ADF and cellulose, while hemicellulose and lignin showed irregular pattern.
