Sybil attack can disrupt proper operations of wireless sensor network by forging its sensor node to multiple identities. To protect the sensor network from such an attack, a number of countermeasure methods based on RSSI (Received Signal Strength Indicator) and LQI (Link Quality Indicator) have been proposed. However, previous works on the Sybil attack detection do not consider the fact that Sybil nodes can change their RSSI and LQI strength for their malicious purposes. In this paper, we present a Sybil attack detection method based on a transmission power range. Our proposed method initially measures range of RSSI and LQI from sensor nodes, and then set the minimum, maximum and average RSSI and LQI strength value. After initialization, monitoring nodes request that each sensor node transmits data with different transmission power strengths. If the value measured by monitoring node is out of the range in transmission power strengths, the node is considered as a malicious node.
To understand the signal fluctuation of a wide-range oxygen sensor installed at the exhaust confluence point, when a misfiring is triggered in a cylinder, the steady state and the transient response characteristics of the sensor to the flow of the misfired gas were investigated quantitatively. It was recognized that the steady state output voltage of the sensor increased higher when it contacted the misfired gas even though the fueling condition was the same as the normal combustion case and this characteristic enabled the application of the wide-range oxygen sensor for the misfire detection. The transient response was compared at different engine speeds and it was found that the response speed increased with the engine speed. The signal fluctuation was also estimated quantitatively, using these steady state and transient response of the sensor, and the estimated signal showed satisfactory correlation with the measurements.
For the autonomous navigation of an unmanned ground vehicle in the rough terrain and combat, the dust environment should necessarily be overcome. Therefore, we propose a robust obstacle detection methodology using laser range sensor and radar. Laser range sensor has a good angle and distance accuracy, however, it has a weakness in the dust environment. On the other hand, radar has not better the angle and distance accuracy than laser range sensor, it has a robustness in the dust environment. Using these characteristics of laser range sensor and radar, we use laser range sensor as a main sensor for normal times and radar as a assist sensor for the dust environment. For fusion of laser range sensor and radar information, the angle and distance data of the laser range sensor and radar are separately transformed to the angle and distance data of virtual range sensor which is located in the center of the vehicle. Through distance comparison of laser range sensor and radar in the same angle, the distance data of a fused virtual range sensor are changed to the distance data of the laser range sensor, if the distance of laser range sensor and radar are similar. In the other case, the distance data of the fused virtual range sensor are changed to the distance data of the radar. The suggested methodology is verified by real experiment.

Water is critical to the health and productivity of fruit trees. Efficient monitoring of water stress is essential for optimizing irrigation practices and ensuring sustainable fruit production. Short-range sensing can be reliable, rapid, inexpensive, and used for applications based on well-developed and validated algorithms. This paper reviews the recent advancement in fruit tree water stress detection via short-range sensing, which can be used for irrigation scheduling in orchards. Thermal imagery, near-infrared, and shortwave infrared methods are widely used for crop water stress detection. This review also presents research demonstrating the efficacy of short-range sensing in detecting water stress indicators in different fruit tree species. These indicators include changes in leaf temperature, stomatal conductance, chlorophyll content, and canopy reflectance. Short-range sensing enables precision irrigation strategies by utilizing real-time data to customize water applications for individual fruit trees or specific orchard areas. This approach leads to benefits, such as water conservation, optimized resource utilization, and improved fruit quality and yield. Short-range sensing shows great promise for potentially changing water stress monitoring in fruit trees. It could become a useful tool for effective fruit tree water stress management through continued research and development.
Ultra-wide bandwidth (UWB) detection method has been widely used as a front end detection scheme for the ultra-high frequency (UHF) partial discharge (PD) monitoring systems. A broad-band video detector module was developed and characterized for the UHF UWB PD detection systems. The useable bandwidth of the module is more than 2 GHz and it is optimized for 50-ohm systems. The detection sensitivity and dynamic range of the module were characterized by using a known ns-width RF pulses of GHz range. The dynamic range is more than 6-decades and the module can detect pulsed RF signals down to 1 nW. The detector module can eliminate expensive equipment such as high speed oscilloscopes and radio frequency (RF) spectrum analyzers. Therefore, it enables one to use slow speed data acquisition systems for the PD monitoring at the UHF range. The detector module was used to detect real PDs of about <3 pC. The module converts the UWB PD signals into a low-bandwidth video signal with a high signal-to-noise ratio.
In order to develop more rapid and reproducible analysis of biotin known as vitamin H, attempts were made to establish the condition for enzyme linked immunosorbent assay(ELISA) compared with traditional microbiological assay(MBA). Antibiotin and antiserum were obtained from the immunized rabbits injected with emulsion of biotin KLH conjugate and Freund's adjuvant. The antiserum showed cross reactivity on biocytin, a derivative of biotin, which is converted to biotin in intestine, at the rate of 177%(median inhibitory concentration(IC50)=12.58ppb), but not on other derivatives such as desthiobiotin, diaminobiotin and 2 imino biotin. Specific antibody for biotin was purified from the antiserum through protein A column and desalting column. The conditions of competitive direct ELISA (cdELISA) were established. Detection range of biotin concentration by cdELISA was 0.01∼300ng/ ml(ppb). In the spike test with milk, fruit flake and pine carrot juice, the correlation coefficient between two methods of MBA and ELISA was reliably consistent at the value of r=0.992. But detection of biotin by microbiological assay(MBA) was rather restricted in range and nonspecific. Detection range of biotin by MBA was 0.1∼0.5ng/ml(ppb). It showed cross reactivities on biocytin and desthiobiotin at the rate of 80.1% and 66.7%, respectively. In conclusion, ELISA revealed a significant improvement compared with MBA for the biotin detection in terms of sensitivity, detection range and cross reactivity. In addition, a variety of samples could be analyzed rapidly and conveniently at one time by using ELISA. These results strongly suggest that the ELISA is very promising for the practical application to detect biotin contents in a wide range of food stuffs.

The positioning technology for a moving object is an important and essential component of ubiquitous computing environment and applications, for which Radio Frequency Identification(RFID) has been considered as a core technology. RFID-based positioning system calculates the position of moving object based on k-nearest neighbor(k-nn) algorithm using detected k-tags which have known coordinates and kcan be determined according to the detection range of RFID system. In this paper, RFID-based positioning system determines the position of moving object not using weight factor which depends on received signal strength but assuming that tags within the detection range always operate and have same weight value. Because the latter system is much more economical than the former one. The geometries of tags were determined with considerations in huge buildings like office buildings, shopping malls and warehouses, so they were determined as the line in I-Dimensional space, the square in 2-Dimensional space. In 1-Dimensional space, the optimal detection range is determined as 125% of the tag spacing distance through the analytical and numerical approach. Here, the analytical approach means a mathematical proof and the numerical approach means a simulation using matlab. But the analytical approach is very difficult in 2-Dimensional space, so through the numerical approach, the optimal detection range is determined as 134% of the tag spacing distance in 2-Dimensional space. This result can be used as a fundamental study for designing RFID-based positioning system.
