  • The International Prostate Symptom Score (IPSS) is often used as an interview sheet for assessing lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS) at the time of prostate-specific antigen (PSA) testing during population-based screening for prostate cancer. However, the relationship between prostate cancer detection and LUTS status remains controversial. To elucidate this relationship, the cumulative probability of prostate cancer detection using IPSS in biopsy samples from patients categorized by serum PSA levels was investigated. The clinical characteristics of prostate cancer detected using IPSS during screening were also investigated. A total of 1,739 men aged 54-75 years with elevated serum PSA levels who completed the IPSS questionnaire during the initial population screening in Kanazawa City, Japan and underwent systematic transrectal ultrasonography-guided prostate biopsy between 2000 and 2013 were enrolled in the present study. Of the 1,739 men, 544 (31.3%) were diagnosed with prostate cancer during the observation period. The probability of cancer detection at 3 years in the entire study population was 27.4% and 32.7% for men with $IPSS{\leq}7$ and those with $IPSS{\geq}8$, respectively; there was no statistically significant difference between groups. In men with serum PSA levels of 6.1 to 12.0ng/mL at initial screening, the probability of cancer detection was significantly higher in men with $IPSS{\leq}7$ than in those with $IPSS{\geq}8$. There were no significant differences in clinical characteristics between groups of patients stratified by IPSS. These findings indicate that the use of IPSS for LUTS status evaluation may be useful for prostate cancer detection in the limited range of serum PSA levels.

  • An easy and efficient method is proposed for a computation of reliability of preprocessing filters in the fire control system when the sensor data are frequently unreliable depending on the operation environment. It computes state transition probability matrix after modeling filter states as a Markov process, and computing false alarm and detection probability of each filter state under the given sensor failure probability. It shows that two important indices such as distributed state probability and error variance can be derived easily for a reliability assessment of the given sensor fusion system.

  • A cavity-backed microstrip patch antenna for a monopulse radar system is designed and fabricated. Also, this antenna is shown to be suitable for the system by analyzing the measured results. Since the azimuthal beamwidth required by this system is quite broad compared to that of a usual microstrip antenna, the width of a microstrip patch is reduced considerably. The decrease of an antenna bandwidth due to the reduced patch width is compensated by increasing the effective substrate thickness. A detection range and a detection probability is calculated from the measured gain at a given angle, and this result shows that the fabricated antenna can be applied well to this monopulse radar system.

  • This study analyzes the tracking accuracy(tracking errors) of fighter radar. Measurement error, detection failure, and radar cross section(RCS) fluctuation in radar measurements degrade the measurement quality and hence affect the tracking accuracy. Therefore, these radar measurement characteristics need to be considered when analyzing the tracking accuracy. In this paper, a method for analyzing the tracking accuracy is proposed; this method considers the detection error, detection probability, and RCS fluctuation. Results from experiments conducted with the proposed method show that the detection probability and RCS fluctuation affect tracking accuracy.

  • In this paper, we propose new multiuser detectors (MUDs) based on compressed sensing approaches for the large-scale multiple antenna systems equipped with dozens of low-power antennas. We consider the scenarios where the number of receiver antennas is smaller than the total number of users, but the number of active users is relatively small. This prior information motivates sparsity-embracing MUDs such as sparsity-embracing linear/nonlinear MUDs where the detection of active users and their symbol detection are employed. In addition, sparsity-embracing MUDs with maximum a posteriori probability criterion (MAP-MUDs) are presented. They jointly detect active users and their symbols by exploiting the probability of user activity, and it can be solved efficiently by introducing convex relaxing senses. Furthermore, it is shown that sparsity-embracing MUDs exploiting common users' activity across multiple symbols, i.e., frame-by-frame, can be considered to improve performance. Also, in multiple multiple-input and multiple-output networks with aggressive frequency reuse, we propose the interference cancellation strategy for the proposed sparsity-embracing MUDs. That first cancels out the interference induced by adjacent networks and then recovers the desired users' information by exploiting the low user activity. In simulation studies for binary phase shift keying modulation, numerical evidences establish the effectiveness of our proposed MUDs exploiting low user activity, as compared with the conventional MUD.

  • The detection field is an important sector of the factors influencing the battle field. Basically, The radar emits a radio wave to perform the detection in the existing way. However, When most existing radars identify target by signal processing to return radio wave, Environmental attenuation factor does not reflected. The radar using this radio wave has got the possibility changing detect result depending on attenuation factor by environmental conditions, The operational problems may arise in a real battle field. Therefore, In this paper, When emitted radio waves were come back, Reflecting the environmental attenuation factor, Experimental attempts to identify the target to enable more accurately.

  • This paper proposes a repeat-back jamming signal detection scheme that utilizes a combined pseudo random noise signal that is effective for processing a global positioning system (GPS) repeat-back jamming signal with the early minus late phase scheme to alleviate any existing multipath signal detection. The proposed scheme uses the combined pseudo random noise signal to treat repeat-back jamming signals like similar multipath signals and can effectively detect a repeat-back jamming signal by applying the early minus late phase scheme to a combined pseudo random noise signal. Through a Monte-Carlo simulation, the detection probability of the proposed scheme is better than the one of the conventional scheme under low jamming to signal power ratio.

  • This paper describes the determination of threshold value in order to determine the presence of absence of weak signal with SNR of 0 dB in 100kHz bandwidth. As a detection method, it has been used a recent LOC structure fitting for detecting weak signal in stead of a conventional method like Neyman-Peason crtical criterion. The signal for detection is the OOK modulation signal used in data and morse code transmission. The non-Gaussian noise similar to Laplacian type has been chosen in transmission path. As a result of experiment, comparing probability of detection by one critical point with that by two critical points with fixing as arbitrary false alarm probability, we have found that method has been shown to be better than the conventional method.
