  • Hot Standby sparing system detecting faults by using software, and being tolerant any faults by using Hardware Redundancy is difficult to perform quantitative reliability prediction and to detect real time faults. Therefore, this paper designs Hot Standby sparing system using hardware basis self checking logic in order to overcome this problem. It also performs failure mode analysis of Hot Standby sparing system with designed self checking logic by using FMEA (Failure Mode Effect Analysis), and identifies reliability assessment of the controller designed by quantifying the numbers of failure development by using FTA (Fault Tree Analysis)

  • This paper focuses on the problem of detecting multiple leverage points and outliers in multivariate linear models. It is well known that he identification of these points is affected by masking and swamping effects. To identify them, Rousseeuw(1985) used robust estimators of MVE(Minimum Volume Ellipsoids), which have the breakdown point of 50% approximately. And Rousseeuw and van Zomeren(1990) suggested the robust distance based on MVE, however, of which the computation is extremely difficult when the number of observations n is large. In this study, e propose a new algorithm to reduce the computational difficulty of MVE. The proposed method is powerful in identifying multiple leverage points and outlies and also effective in reducing the computational difficulty of MVE.

  • Various diagnostic techniques for identifying influential observations are mostly based on the deletion of a single observation. While such techniques can satisfactorily identify influential observations in many cases, they will not always be successful because of some mask effect. It is necessary, therefore, to develop techniques that examine the potentially influential effects of a subset of observations. The partial regression plots can be used to examine an influential observation for a single parameter in multiple linear regression. However, it is often desirable to detect influential observations for a subset of regression parameters when interest centers on a selected subset of independent variables. Thus, we propose a diagnostic measure which deals with detecting influential observations on a subset of regression parameters. In this paper, we propose a measure M, which can be effectively used for the detection of influential observations on a subset of regression parameters in multiple linear regression. An illustrated example is given to show how we can use the new measure M to identify influential observations on a subset of regression parameters.

  • It is studied on the apparatus for detecting the amplitude and the frequency of the vidrating object by utilizing the Ultrasonic Doppler Effect, without having any effect on the vibratioinal cases. The output detected varing the distance between the transducers and the vibrating object, when the angles of the incidence and the reflection wave are equalized. AM demodulatioin is adapted for the detection of vibration, and the output errors are theoretically consideed. The accurate detection of vibration can be obtained, when the distance between them is 5cm to 20cm, the magnitude of amplitude is 1mm to 5mm, and the vibrational frequency range is 20Hz to 1KHz.

  • Infrared (IR) seeker identifies the location of a target by detecting the infrared energy radiated from the target, and enables the missile to track the target. To improve the tracking performance, a counter- countermeasure (CCM) is essential to minimize the effect of the countermeasure (CM), which is operated by a target to protect itself. In this paper, we propose a crossed array tracker (CAT) using two-color CCM algorithm. The CAT using the proposed algorithm shows better tracking performance by minimizing the effect of CM.

  • Collaborative filtering approach for recommender systems are now widely applied in e-commerce to assist customers to find their needs from many that are frequently available. this approach makes recommendations for users based on the opinions to similar users in the system. But this approach is opened to users who present their preference to items or acquire the preference information form other users, noise in the system makes significant problem for accurate recommendation. In this paper, we analyze the relationship between the standard deviation of preference ratings for each user and the estimated ratings of them. The result shows that the possibility of the pre-filtering condition which detecting the factor of bad effect on the prediction of user's preference. It is expected that using this result will reduce the possibility of bad effect on recommender systems.

  • This paper deals with the damage assessment for isolators of base-isolated building systems considering the torsion-coupling (TC) effect by establishing damage indices. The damage indices can indicate the reduction in lateral stiffness of the isolator story as explicit formulas in terms of modal parameters. In addition, the damage location, expressed in terms of the estimated damage index and eccentricities before and after damage, is also presented. Numerical analysis shows that the proposed algorithms are applicable for general base-isolated multi-story TC buildings. A procedure from the analysis of seismic response to the implementation of damage indices is demonstrated by using a numerical case. A system identification technique is employed to extract modal parameters from seismic responses of a building. Results show that the proposed indices are capable of detecting the occurrence of damage and preliminarily estimating the location of damaged isolator.

  • A wideband instantaneous frequency measurement (IFM) system is been proposed, designed and analyzed. Phase modulation to intensity modulation conversion is implemented based on the stimulated Brillouin scattering (SBS) effect, and the microwave frequency can be measured by detecting the change in output power. Theoretical analysis shows that the frequency measurement range can be extended to 4fb by adjusting the two sweeping signals of the phase modulators with a difference of 2fb. The IFM system is set up using VPI transmission maker software and the performances are simulated and analyzed. The simulation results show that the measurement range is 0.5-45.96 GHz with a maximum measurement error of less than 9.9 MHz. The proposed IFM system has a wider measurement range than the existing SBS-based IFM system.

  • We attempted to fabricate carbon nanotube field effect transistor (CNT-FET) using single walled carbon nanotube(SWNT) on the heavily doped Si substrate used as a bottom gate, source and drain electrode were fabricated bye-beam lithography on the 500 nm thick $SiO_2$ gate dielectric layer. We investigated electrical and physical properties of this CNT-FET using Scanning Probe Microscope(SPM) and conventional method based on tungsten probe tip technique. The gate length of CNT-FET was 600 nm and the diameter of identified SWNT was about 4 nm. We could observed gating effect and typical p-MOS property from the obtained $V_G-I_{DS}$ curve. The threshold voltage of CNT-FET is about -4.6V and transconductance is 47 nS. In the physical aspect, we could identified SWNT with phase mode of SPM which detecting phase shift by force gradient between cantilever tip and sample surface.

  • A code is developed to correct for the coincidence summing effect in detecting a voluminous gamma source, and this code is applied to a152Eu standard source as a test case. The source is 1000 mL of liquid in a cylindrical shape. To calculate the coincidence summing effect, the cylindrical source is considered as 10(radial) × 8(height) sectional sources. For each sectional source, the peak efficiency and total efficiency are obtained by Monte Carlo simulation at each energy for 10 energies between 50 keV and 2000 keV. The efficiencies of each sector are then expressed as polynomials of gamma energy. To calculate the correction coefficients for the coincidence summing effect, the KORSUM code is used after modification. The magnitudes of correction are 4%-17% for the standard 152Eu source measured in this study. The relative deviation of 4.7% before the coincidence correction is reduced to 0.8% after the correction is applied to the efficiency based on the measured gamma line. Hence, this study has shown that a new method has been developed that is applicable for correcting the coincidence effect in a voluminous source, and the method is applied to the measured data of a standard 152Eu cylinder source.
