  • Double skin façade is known that several features affected the building energy and daylighting performance. That is why the envelope is able to consist of all architectural materials such as glass, aluminum, wood and insulation for vision of residents and workers in buildings. Its specifications is very diverse according to the building designers and building owners. In recent times, visual environment became a major focus and resulted in the development of cutting edge engineering of diverse glazing systems and shading devices by growing interests of friendly environment. Thus this research has evaluated the fluctuations of interior lighting and atmospheric conditions based on double skin facade systems. Especially in terms of daylighting environment as dependent on solar variations, this research provides quantitative analysis of interior lighting conditions and how it affects the living conditions as well as improve the design of interior spaces.

  • Mobile devices compared with personal computers on the desktop have low bandwidths, small screens, and relatively slow speeds. These systems have practical problems with information searches in a web environment. Information searching of various web contents on the small size screen has especially severe limitations. We propose a filtering technique of web contents which can overcome the limitations of small size screens and meet the user requirements in a PDA environment. For these constructions, we first divide the screen into segment blocks and then extract content blocks according to the user requirements, so that only filtered web contents will be shown. The performance evaluation of the proposed technique saves an average time of about 30% by displaying only the extracted information instead of the whole web page.

The Influence of Illuminance Variation by a Daylight Dimming Control System on Visual Comfort Under Clear Sky Conditions (청천공 조건에서 조광제어 시스템 적용시 조도변화에 대한 시각적 만족도 분석)

  • This study examines the influence of light variation on visual responses in a small office space where a daylight dimming control system is applied. Field measurements and survey were performed in a full-scale mocked-up small office space under clear sky day conditions. Maximum fluctuation range for desktop was 133.5 lx and it just happened once for entire monitoring period. For the majority of time, the fluctuation range did not exceed 50 lx, which did not cause visual discomfort to subjects. The daylight dimming control system successfully kept required illuminance levels for an office environment when desktop illuminance by daylight ranged up to 300 lx. The most serious contributor to the sensation of glare was direct daylight through window. The dimming of electric light was not a significant contributor to visual discomfort for the subjects under clear sky day conditions. Visual comfort was significantly influenced by the sensation of glare, feeling for visual stimulation and distraction, and required illuminance level.

  • In this paper, we have designed a Home Networking System using an embedded linux board. The system based on the World-Wide-Web is composed of three parts - a Server, a Client and a Simulator. The Home Networking Server is built in an embedded board using an embedded linux kernel. A web-server and Home Networking Server Seryice Demon programming with a Jaya-Language is included in the board. Clients can connect to the server board using a web-browser in the desktop computer, PDA or any other machines which include a web-browser. For this purpose, we made the client program using a Java-Applet. So, the clients who connect to the server for the control of the applications, download the class-file and execute the client-program in the web-browser. So, the clients don't need any other programs to control the applications from a remote place. The size of server board is very small (86.3$\times$74mm), which makes it very useful not only for the Home-Networking-System but also in many other fields, e.g., embedded robot control system, etc. Using an embedded board instead of a desktop computer is good for a simple network environment and it occupies only a small space to make the system.

  • In this paper, we propose and developed a keyglove using the touch-typing method as new solutions to the problem of text input into the mobile computing devices. This device recognizes that character is typed in though the hand's movements analysis and requires no additional space on a person's desktop or work surface, and can be easily used with computers of any size, even the smallest mobile computer, and is designed as an input device for wearable computers and virtual environment. The concept of the wearable input device based on human hand-molies recognition.

  • Virtual reality (VR) opened the possibility of moving beyond the 2-D world of conventional desktop systems to an immersive, multi-sensory environment generated by computer graphics. Haptic feedback (Haptics) is now starting to get recognition and use in intensive applications for manipulation, while smell and taste feedback are at the stage of early research. This paper reviews some current works on increased haptic feedback augmentation in virtual reality applications.

  • We often experience complex presence of files within the compute environment. It could be an end-user's desktop environment or a professional part of file management. We would like to suggest one way to manage these different cases of duplicate files. It is a rule-based file management tool, and we want to use it as a tool to consolidate facility management log files. In this paper, we will describe the rule-based file management tools and show examples of how files are managed using them. We are interested in the management of the disaster environment and would like to apply this method to the management of log data related to facilities to be considered in the event of a disaster.

  • Recently, development of mobile service and increased demand for mobile device make mobile environment noticeable in computer graphics. Especially demand for 3D graphic services in mobile devices is steadily increased. However up to the present non-photorealistic rendering is mainly studied in desktop platform. In the result, existing research were designed for desktop computers and are not well-suited for mobile devices. Thus, there is a growing needs for processing techniques that provide the ability to render 3D non-photorealistic graphics through mobile devices. In this paper, we discuss processing techniques for non-photorealistic rendering that are especially cartoon shading and rendering in mobile devices. Through the result of this research, it is expected that silhouette edge rendering for mobile display environment and preprocessing file technique for shading. The efficiency of 3D mobile graphic service like 3D model in cartoon style is increased by using proposed preprocessing file and rendering pipeline. Our work can provide mobile cartoon rendering results and various mobile contents to users.

Exploring the Moderating Effect of Interdependence on Performance and Satisfaction in Virtual Work Environment (품질 관점에서 가상 데스크탑 인프라(VDI)의 만족과 성과, 그리고 업무 상호의존성의 조절효과)

  • With the explosive proliferation of smart devices that may be connected to the fast Internet, virtual desktop interfaces(VDI) are being implemented in enterprises allowing employees to work anywhere anytime in the same technological environment. As this kind of systems are intended to raise the work performance, a research model is constructed from the review of research literature on service quality and work design. The model consists of VDI system service quality (ubiquity, availability, compatibility, security and ease of use), system satisfaction, task performance and job satisfaction. As VDI is designed as a support system for cooperative work, the task interdependence adopted from the work design theory is postulated here as moderating the effect of user satisfaction on task performance and job satisfaction. 147 data points were collected by a survey of VDI users in a global firm and subjected to PLS analysis. Interestingly, ubiquity and compatibility seem to be not statistically significant for user satisfaction while availability, security and ease of use of VDI system are statistically significant. Task interdependence is found to be a relatively strong mediator between system user satisfaction and task performance, however, interestingly, the coefficient come out as negative. This may indicate that the influence of VDI user satisfaction on task performance would not be high in highly interdependent tasks. Considering that VDI is intended for supporting 'interdependence' in cooperative work, this finding is a bit surprising. In-depth discussions are made in the discussion followed by future research directions.

A Design and Implementation of Multimedia Pest Prediction Management System using Wireless Sensor Network (무선 센서 네트워크를 이용한 멀티미디어 병해충 예측 관리 시스템 설계 및 구현)

  • The majority of farm managers growing the garden products in greenhouse concern massively about the diagnosis and prevention of the breeding and extermination for pests. especially, the managing problem for pests turns up as main issue. In the paper, we first build a wireless sensor network with soil and environment sensors such as illumination, temperature and humidity. And then we design and implement multimedia pest predication and management system which is able to predict and manage various pest of garden products in greenhouse. The proposed system can support the database with information about the pests by building up wireless sensor network in greenhouse compared with existing high-priced PLC device as well as collect various environment information from soil, the interior of greenhouse, and the exterior of greenhouse. To verify the good capability of our system, we implemented several GUI interface corresponding desktop. web, and PDA mobile platform based on real greenhouse model. Finally, we can confirm that our system work well prediction and management of pest of garden products in greenhouse based on several platforms.
