  • A fuzzy controller and a 2-dimensional wire-driven heavy material lifting system helping human operator are proposed in this paper. The 2-dimensional wire-driven heavy material lifting system is a kind of human-assistive systems in which a human is involved in the control loop. Most of the existing human-assistive control systems cannot consider human operator's characteristic. To consider human operator's characteristic, human's operating motion and requirement of reducing operator's force to lift a heavy material are considered in the design process of the proposed fuzzy controller. The performance of the proposed system is verified by experiments.

  • In order to minimize the damage from system failures, systems over various fields are requested to contain the safety-critical features. In this paper, we deliver the considerable issues, especially, in the cyber physical systems that is recently used as a safety-critical system, as well as we propose the model driven architecture based on time as its the important factor. Based on meta-modeling approach, we introduce the time-based architecture which is associated with deadline, transition state, and threshold, and also we work out a design for this by using model driven architecture. We propose a realizable safety-critical architecture by means of showing failure handling components with safety transaction model from the meta-model. In the detailed models and the example, we design a basic safety processing state, a multiple safety processing state, and a compound safety processing state for completing the safety-critical system architecture.

  • Gears are essential and useful elements which power is transmitted from a source to a driven equipment. Therefore, it is very important to design gears correctly. Two important points in the gear design procedures are capacities of the gears's bending strength and pitting resistance. This paper deals with two subjects about spur and helical gears : analyzing for strength and wear capacities, and design of face width. Also, this paper proposes the analytical program which is developed for computer aided design and analysis This program is based on the American Gear Manufactures Association(AGMA) Standards.

  • The last decade has seen great design opportunities for tall building construction around the globe. The best designs represent a new generation of skyscrapers that go beyond willful preconceptions of building form and iconography, trying instead to simultaneously address interrelated issues of program space utility, structural efficiency, and environmentally sustainable systems. The resulting identities of these towers are unique because of their search for the intersection of spaces tuned to people's needs, expressive optimized structures, and high performance, site-responsive systems. This paper, through examples of recent SOM towers, both built and unbuilt, will discuss how a design becomes content-driven, how ideas create value, and how the typology of the tall building is advanced through the integration of architecture design and engineering systems.

  • Consumer satisfaction and feelings with form play an essential role in determining the success of a product. However, contemporary industrial design processes typically employ designer driven, intuitive methods for generating and evaluating form concepts. This paper describes the implementation process of web based design support system that helps assess customer's feelings or sensibilities of forms created in each stages of design process. The present web based approach provides designers with fast and various feedbacks about their design in each stage by using assessment with object VR and web 3D as well as ordinary 2D images. Practical application for exterior design of electric vehicle was illustrated and the further refinement of the design support system was discussed.

  • Due to cost-effective and compact system design IPM-based inverters are now being seen as an attractive alternative to conventional discrete-based inverters technique for low power ac drives in particular such as washing machines refrigerators and air-conditioners. Fairchild-IPM newly developed in order to provide the advantages of the lowest cost and better performance is discussed and its specification is given.
