  • In the recent years the using of low-density material such as high-strength Al alloy on the various industries is becoming light-weight. High strength and hollow Al alloy is good material for stiffness and recycling. Therefore the advanced manufacturing technology with Al alloy is continuously required in many industrial fields. In this study simplified hallow rectangular section of Al alloy is analyzed by FE analysis. Bending stress is affected punching and rotating of wing-die. The analysis of press bending is preformed at first. The elastic recovery value of component and stress distribution acting from the result of the bending angle of three types were obtained. The designed precesses were analyzed by the commercial FE code, Deform-3D. Forming dies for each process were designed and prototypes were manufactured by the verified forming process. Some of the important features of design parameters in the press bending were reviewed.

  • The thermal properies of the pure linen fabrics available in the market and linen blended woven fabrics were measured at the moisture content of 0%, 20%, 40% and 60% using KES-F7 system (Thermo Iabo II type). The experimental properties were statistically analyzed by the rate of water absorbent. The main results were as follows; There is a positive correlation between the thermal insulation value (TIV) and thickness of pure linen fabrics and linen blended woven fabrics by water absorption. Whereas an negative correlation exists between the TIV and cover factor. There is a high positive correlation among the thermal conductivity (k), thickness and weight of pure linen fabrics and linen blended woven fabrics by water absorption. Wherase a high negative correlation exist between the k and air' permeability (Ap). There is a high positive correlation between the feeling of warmth/coldness and bulk density of pure linen and linen blended woven fabrics by water absorption. Wherase a high negative correlation exists between the feeling of warmth/coldness and porosity. There is a negative correlation between TIV and $q_{max}$ of pure linen fabrics and linen blended woven fabrics. The higher the rate of water absorbent, the lower the TIV. This means that TIV decreases by water absorption. As for the thermal property by rate of water absorbent $q_{max}$ and k increase by water absorption and reach max-value at 60% rate of water absorbent. The TIV decreases by water absorption and has +value at 0% rate of water absorbent, whereas it has -value with a feeling of coldness at 20%, 40%. and 60% rate of water absorbent.

  • In this paper, a novel methodology is proposed to obtain optimum location of outriggers. The method utilizes genetic algorithm (GA) for shape and size optimization of outrigger-braced tall structures. In spite of previous studies (simplified methods), current study is based on exact modeling of the structure in a computer program developed on Matlab in conjunction with OpenSees. In addition to that, exact wind loading distribution is calculated in accordance with ASCE 7-10. This is novel since in previous studies wind loading distributions were assumed to be uniform or triangular. Also, a new penalty coefficient is proposed which is suitable for optimization of tall buildings. Newly proposed penalty coefficient improves the performance of GA and results in a faster convergence. Optimum location and number of outriggers is investigated. Also, contribution of factors like central core and outrigger rigidity is assessed by analyzing several design examples. According to the results of analysis, exact wind load distribution and modeling of all structural elements, yields optimum designs which are in contrast of simplified methods results. For taller frames significant increase of wind pressure changes the optimum location of outriggers obtained by simplified methods. Ratio of optimum location to the height of the structure for minimizing weight and satisfying serviceability constraints is not a fixed value. Ratio highly depends on height of the structure, core and outriggers stiffness and lateral wind loading distribution.

  • In this study, first, child headform model was built up, satisfying requirement in the headform validation test. Also, for decreasing both acceleration peak and deformation, a new hood with dome shaped forming in inner panel was investigated. Next, headform impact, complying with draft of EEVC W/G 17, on the central portion of the newly proposed hood were simulated for a steel hood and three aluminum hoods with different thickness for examining the material and thickness effect on HIC value and inner panel deformation. The analysis results explained that aluminum hoods with dome shaped forming in inner panel were highly promising not only for meeting headform safety regulations but also for leading to weight savings. Finally, hood edge design technology in order to reduce pedestrian injury due to the high stiffness of beam type edge and the rigid support, was discussed. Various types of the foam filled edge were designed and their headform safety performance were evaluated. The edge structure with foam filled in upper one third of section exhibited excellent results.

  • There has been a continuous study on the weight reduction of structure by composites. Unlike isotropic materials, the physical properties of composites vary according to the direction of laminate and the order of lamination. Therefore, in the case of composite ladders, it is essential to perform structural analysis to verify the planned design. In this study, ladder was designed by applying fabric material. In addition, the effect of loading position on the ladder was analyzed through finite element analysis, and structural performance was analyzed by selecting the most problematic location. We analyzed the effect of stacking order on the structural strength of the ladder by analyzing the structure by applying various stacking sequence and measuring the failure value in each layer.

  • In this research, laboratory tests were carried out to investigate the engineering properties of Light-Weight Air Foamed Soil (LWAS) based on silty clays with the animal foaming agent and cement. LWAS has been used as an embankment material over soft ground for road and side extension of the existing road. In field, unit weight and flow value is measured right after producing in mixing plant in order to control the quality of LWAS, and laboratory tests are carried out to confirm the quality through compressive strength of LWAS as well. In this research, direct estimation of the specification requirement of strength using flow values in field is the main purpose of the study together with other characteristics. From the test results, it can be seen that flow values increase with the initial water content and unit weight increases with the depth due to material segregation. Compared to the upper specimen, lower end of 60 cm specimen shows about 2 times higher compressive strength. Relationship between flow values and normalized factor presented by Yoon & Kim (2004) was presented. With that relationship, compressive strength can be predicted from flow values in field. From the relationship, the normalized factor was calculated. Thereafter calculated compressive strengths according to the flow values were compared to measured strengths in the laboratory. The higher the initial water content of the dredged soil has, the better relationship between predicted and measured shows. Therefore it is necessary to predict the compressive strength in advance through the relationship between the flow value and the normalized factor to reflect it in the design stage.

  • Purpose : The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of the posture holding band on muscle activity of the rectus femoris, medial vastus, and vastus lateralis muscles and weight distribution during squat exercise. Methods : This study was conducted with 30 healthy adult men and women in their 20s, and all subjects were randomly assigned to the experimental group and the control group. Squat exercise was performed for 6 weeks. The experimental group received squat exercise while wearing a posture holding band, and the control group applied without wearing a posture holding band. Muscle activity of the quadriceps femoris (rectus femoris, vastus medialis, and vastus lateralis) and weight distribution (knee flexion 0 °, 30 °, 60 °, and 90 °) was measured. Results : According to the results of this study, all three muscles showed a main effect on time and group, and a significant interaction was shown only in the vastus lateralis. In addition, the value of the weight distribution difference according to the knee flexion angle did not show a main effect according to time and group at 30 ° of knee flexion, but showed an interaction. Conclusion : It was confirmed that the application of the posture holding band during squat exercise increased the muscle activity of the quadriceps muscle, and showed greater changes in the vastus lateralis muscle. In addition, it was confirmed that the difference in weight distribution was reduced in the knee flexion, and in particular, a greater change was shown in reducing the difference in weight distribution in the knee flexion of 30 °. Therefore, it is considered that the effect of the exercise can be further enhanced if the unnecessary movement of the trunk is controlled by using equipment such as a posture holding band during squat exercise.

  • Performance analyses were performed on a propeller developed for use in a PAV (Personal Air Vehicle) under 600 kg Maximum Take-Off Weight (MTOW). The actuator disc theory and CFD analyses were used to estimate the hovering time with regards to MTOW variation for a given battery weight. The interference induced power factor kint was introduced to account for the effect of flow interference between the propellers and to estimate the performance of counter-rotating propellers. The Maximum Figure of Merit (FM) value of the propeller pitch was determined and the design RPM range for the required power inversely obtained from the CFD results. Previous research indicate that the flight time of large multi-copter is limited by the available battery energy density. Similarly, the propeller pitch settings and spacing are important factors in reducing the kint value.

  • The ensemble is a unified approach used for getting better performance by using multiple algorithms in machine learning. In this paper, we introduce boosting and bagging, which have been widely used in ensemble techniques, and design a method using support vector regression, radial basis function network, Gaussian process, and multilayer perceptron. In addition, our experiment was performed by adding a recurrent neural network and MOHID numerical model. The drifter data used for our experimental verification consist of 683 observations in seven regions. The performance of our ensemble technique is verified by comparison with four algorithms each. As verification, mean absolute error was adapted. The presented methods are based on ensemble models using bagging, boosting, and machine learning. The error rate was calculated by assigning the equal weight value and different weight value to each unit model in ensemble. The ensemble model using machine learning showed 61.7% improvement compared to the average of four machine learning technique.
