This study suggests design criteria to evaluate the availability of anchorage in Korea to contribute to ship safety by presenting necessary design criteria for anchorage volume according to port development. Accordingly, the concept of "necessary volume of anchorage" is introduced to evaluate the volume of anchorage available in Korea's major ports, and classify these ports into three types according to the characteristics of incoming ship. Numerical simulations designed using MATLAB-SIMULINK have been carried out to track the irregularly of arrival and, waiting times along with the environmental conditions that affect anchorage and necessary volume of anchorage have been suggested based on these tests. Finally, in order to complete a function equation analysis, the necessary volume of anchorage with reference to cargo volume is addressed using regression analysis as follows. Group $A-Y_{NA}=0.0002X_{HA}-3.67$, Group $B-Y_{NB}=0.0002X_{HB}-6.82$, Group $C-Y_{NC}=0.0001X_{HC}+9.02$. This study contributes to a review of anchorage volume from the perspective of harbor development.

The objective of this study is to evaluate the stability of the design criteria recommended by Betram and Terzaghi as compared with the experimental result. A series of NEF tests was conducted to determine the loss of volume in base soils. The three kinds of base soils classified as CL, SC and SM are used for the NEF tests with various hydraulic pressures and filters following upper and lower bond of the criteria. Volume loss characteristics of the base soils was examined closely by the results of the test successfully. Firstly, it was found that the loss of base soils was mostly eroded at the first stage of seepage. Secondly, the amount of loss volume was ranked CL > SM > SC in order of their amounts for upper criteria, and SM > CL > SC orderly for lower criteria. Thirdly, the volume loss of all soils was increased with increasing the hydraulic pressures. And lastly, the needs of the new design criteria was proved for the control of seepage and piping.
In order to rpovide proper SMT design criteria in a systematic way, a mathematical formulation has been developed to predict the configuration of the solder fillet formed between the gullwing type lead and rectangular pad. Effects of SMT design parameters such as the solder volume and pad dimension on the solder profile are investigated using the FEM that calculates the 3D configuration by minimizing the energy due to surface tension and gravity in the equilibrium state. Design criteria of QFP and SOP are illustrated by plotting the acceptable range of the solder volume with respect to the length and width ratios of the pad and lead. The results show that the acceptable design range increases with increase in the pad length and width. The pad length has more significant effects on design criteria compared with the pad width, and Bond number can be utilized to predict the joint quality.

The purpose of the study was to analyze differences in importance of product selection criteria of retail buyers in Dongdaemum market according to price line of products, annual sales volume of the company, and work period as a retail buyer. The study defined a retail buyer as a buyer who buys apparel products in Dongdaemum market for their own stores. The questionnaire developed by the researchers was distributed to 200 retail buyers in Dongdaemun market. One hundred seventy two questionnaires were used in the final analysis. The data were analyzed by common factor analysis, ANOVA, and Tukey's test using SPSS 18.0/Windows. The results showed that product selection criteria were classified into 4 factors: fashion design, price, quality, and assortment. There were significant differences in importance of product selection criteria by retail buyers in Dongdaemum market according to price line of products and annual sales volume of the company, and work period as a retail buyer. The buyers of higher price products showed higher importance in all four factors of the product selection criteria. Also, the buyers of the company with lower annual sales volume considered price factors more important, but the buyers of the company with higher annual sales volume thought quality factor more important. Moreover, the buyer with work period of less than three years regarded price as a more important factor.

The service level of Metro stations is affected by the design criteria such as platform area, width and length of stairways, and the number of turnstile, etc. The Korean station design process utilizes peak-hour volume as design volume. Hourly volume, however, can not explicitly account for the variation of traffic and consequently the variation of the level of service within the one-hour time period. Movements in various areas inside of stations are simulated with a queueing network under various operating conditions. A discrete simulation tool called SIMUL8 was utilized. Based on the results, peak volume for 15 minutes period was recommended as a preferred base volume over the peak-hour volume for station design purpose to realistically account for user delays under. Simulation runs also confirmed that escalators have positive effects on passenger processing capacity and on securing stability of passenger flows in stations.

Presented is a study on the realistic determination of design loads and design criteria for bridge structures. The current bridge design code does not consider realistically the uncertainties inherent in loads and resistances and thus the level of safety varies greatly among the bridge spans. The resonable bridge design loads and design criteria which exhibit uniform reliability among various bridge spans are therefore derived in the present paper. The proposed design loads are determined from the analysis of numerous data obtained from actual traffic survey and the design criteria are based on the advanced concept of load and resistance factor format. The live load factors take into account resonably the effects of traffic volume increase. The proposed design loads and design criteria show uniform safety level for various bridge spans and reasonably consider the effects of traffic volume increase. The present study provides useful and valuable data for new version of our bridge design code.

Apparel goods are classified by many criteria for ease of merchandising implementation. Fashion and basic goods are also an oucome oi classification. Previous studies pnvide some criteria by which apparel products can be classified into fushion and basic goods. Among those ciiteria, seasonality, fashionability, clothing types, complexity in pnduction, simplicity of style, pioducuon volume, degree of style change by season, could be listed. This study, first explored how apparel merchandisers and designers define fashion and basic goods in relation with those criteria. Definitions of fashion and basic goods were explored in terms of design elements (i.e., style, color, material), production volume, sales ratio, proportion in product assortment, and contribution to profit. The study adopted a qualitative approach by use of eighteen infepth interviews with menhandisers and designers. Six were from women's wear brand, Seven from men's wear brand, and 5 from casual wear brand. All the interviewees agreed that they are using the classification of basic vs. fashion goods. However, they are using diverse terms to indicate the basic and fashion goods. The interviewees defined each group based on its contribution to total sales or profit complexity in design, production volume, and style change by season. Basic goods had a higher level of production quantity, contribute more to profit simpler design, and less style change by season than fashion goods.
Pedestrians and vehicle users should be treated with equal importance in urban street design. However, current street design suggests that the design criteria for sidewalks is based on the functional hierarchy of the vehicles, therefore it is necessary to develop sidewalk design standards that give more weight to pedestrians rather than vehicles. For this, this study suggests that the level of service of pedestrians should be considered in the process of designing sidewalks. Currently, level of service (LOS) criteria for pedestrians in the Korean Highway Capacity Manual are based on pedestrian volume, but the volume of pedestrians is seldomly estimated in practice. So, the current LOS criteria has limitations in terms of practical use. Also, the study assumes that the pedestrian flow rate is hardly the dominant factor that could affect the LOS of pedestrians at most urban sidewalks. In this context, the study considers a new LOS for sidewalk design based on the comfort of pedestrians while passing pedestrians coming from the opposite direction. Then the study attempts to link the new LOS criteria to the land use patterns using data of pedestrian traffic characteristics acquired from the field. In addition to this, the scope in which the suggested criteria can be applied is suggested.

Internal capacity of a refrigerator is an important indicator for design and purchasing criteria. The components facing the internal space may have holes or gaps between parts. In traditional way, design engineers manually remodeled the parts to fill the holes and the gaps for enclosed boundary of the internal space. Then they calculated internal volume by subtracting the assembly of parts from its enclosing volume. However, filling holes and gaps is not an automated process requiring a plenty of labor and time. In this research, we have developed a voxel-based method to estimate the internal volume of a refrigerator automatically. It starts transforming all components facing the interior space into voxels and fills all holes and gaps automatically by the developed hole-filling algorithm to form a completely closed boundary of the assembly. Then, it identifies the boundary voxels that are facing to the internal voxels with any part of the component. After getting the intersection points between the boundary voxels and the surfaces of components, it generates the boundary surface of triangular facets with the intersection points. Finally, it estimates the internal volume by adding volume of each tetrahedron composed of a triangle of boundary surface and an arbitrary point.
To provide better understanding of a solder joint design criteria, mathematical models have been developed to calculate the shape of the solder fillets formed between the pad and lead. The effects of parameters such as solder volume and pad dimensions are described with this model. In this study, a systematic way to determine the design criteria of the SMT from the predicted 3D solder joint profile is proposed. The solder joint profile is calculated using the available 3D FEM code which minimizes the system energy due to the surface tension and gravity. The solder joint profiles of gullwing-type lead such as QFP and SOP are calculated for design parameters, and acceptable ranges are obtained. The result shows that the pad length is the most significant factor compared with the pad width and pad area.
