Due to the trend of evolution toward a broadband communication network with fiber-optics, the design and operation of fiber-optic network have been received a great deal of research attention recently. Furthermore, even a single fiber link failure in the network may result in severe service loss. Thus, the network survivability becomes an importantissue in planning and designing the network. This survey is on modelling of various fiber-optic subscriber loop network(FSLN) design problems, which are essential ones for providing broadband communication services and B-ISDN services. Models are classified and investigated as either conventional decomposition-iteration approach or integrated design method. To build survivable networks, SHR models are also suggested by ring control schemes. The result of this study will be effectively applied to build a design model for FSLN in the practical applications.

In this paper, a unified design environment is developed for the optimization of electric machines based on continuum sensitivity. For electromagnetic (EM) system analysis, COMSOL scripting environment is used. Optimization module is developed by MATLAB programming, which can be combined with COMSOL script commands. The modules are combined into one MATLAB project, and iteration process necessary for the optimization of EM system can be performed efficiently. During the design process, visual feedback of the current design status is given to the designer. In addition, the B-Spline parametrization of the nodal points is implemented to obtain smooth boundary of the device. The developed software is applied to the problem of finding uniform flux density distribution at the air gap of an electromagnet to verify its feasibility and effectiveness.

Polynomial is used to optimize crown bowl shape of a marine medium speed diesel engine piston. The primary goal of this paper is that it's for an original design through a thermal stress and highest temperature minimum. Piston is modeled using solid element with 6 design variables defined the positional coordinate value. Global optimum of design variables are found and evaluated as developed and integrated with the optimum algorithm combining genetic algorithm(GA) and tabu search(TS). Iteration for optimization is performed based on the result of finite element analysis. After optimization, thermal stress and highest temperature reduced 0.68% and 1.42% more than initial geometry.

This study is concerned with the optimum design of reinforced concrete frame structure with multi-stories and multi-bays by Limit State Design Method aimed to establish a synthetical optimal method that can simultaneously acomplish structural analysis and sectional desig. For optimum solution, the Successive Linear Programming known as effective to nonlinear optimization problem: including both multi-design variables and mulit-constrained condition was applied. The developed algorithm was applied to an actual structure and reached following results. 1)The developed algorithm was rvey effective converging to an optimal solution with 3 to 5 iteration. 2)An optimal solution was showed when bending moment redistribution factor a was 0.80. 3)The column was, regardless of story, controlled by the long column when unbraced, while in case of braced column, it is designed with 3 short column controlled by thrust and bending moment, and the supporting condition had little effect on the optimization results.

Design optimization is performed to calculated the draw-bead force for satisfying the design re-quirements. For an analysis tool a rigid-plastic finite element method with modified membrane element is adopted. response surface methodology is utilized for constructing the approximation surface for the optimum searching of draw bead force in sheet metal forming process. the algorithm developed is ap-plied to a design of the draw bead forces in a deep drawing process. The results show that the design of process parameters is applicable in complex metal forming analysis. It is also noted that the present algo-rithm enhances the stable optimum solution with small times of optimization iteration.
Nuclear safety-class DCS is used for nuclear reactor protection function, which is one of the key facilities to ensure nuclear power plant safety, the maintenance for DCS to keep system in a high reliability is significant. In this paper, Nuclear safety-class DCS system developed by the Nuclear Power Institute of China is investigated, the model of reliability estimation considering nuclear power plant emergency trip control process is carried out using Markov transfer process. According to the System-Subgroup-Module hierarchical iteration calculation, the evolution curve of failure probability is established, and the preventive maintenance optimization strategy is constructed combining reliability numerical calculation and periodic overhaul interval of nuclear power plant, which could provide a quantitative basis for the maintenance decision of DCS system.

In this paper, we design an optimal model following ${\mu}-$synthesis control system for fuel-injection of diesel engine which has robust performance and satisfactory command tracking performance in spite of uncertainties of the system. To do this, we give gain and dynamics parameters to the weighting functions and apply genetic algorithm with reference model to the optimal determination of the weighting functions that are given by the D-K iteration method which can design ${\mu}-$synthesis controller in the state space. These weighting functions are optimized simultaneously in the search domain which guarantees the robust performance of the system. The ${\mu}-$synthesis control system for fuel-injection designed by the above method has not only the robust performance but also a better command tracking performance than those of the ${\mu}-$synthesis control system designed by trial-and-error method. The effectiveness of this ${\mu}-$synthesis control system for fuel-injection is verified by computer simulation.

The Local Volume Mapper(LVM) project in the fifth iteration of the Sloan Digital Sky Survey (SDSS-V) will produce large integral-field spectroscopic survey data to understand the physical conditions of the interstellar medium in the Milky Way, the Magellanic Clouds, and other local-volume galaxies. We are developing the LVM Instrument control software. The architecture design of the software follows a hierarchical structure in which the high-level software packages interact with the low-level and mid-level software and hardware components. We adopt the spiral software development model in which the software evolves by iteration of sequential processes, i.e., software requirement analysis, design, code generation, and testing. This spiral model ensures that even after being commissioned, the software can be revised according to new operational requirements. We designed the software by using the Unified Modeling Language, which can visualize functional interactions in structure diagrams. We plan to use the SDSS software framework CLU for the interaction between components, based on the RabbitMQ that implemented the Advanced Message Queuing Protocol (AMQP).

A strategy of the optimal shape design with FEA(Finite Element Analysis) for 2-D structure is proposed by comparing subproblem approximation method with first order approximation method. A cantilever beam with two different loading conditions, a concentrated load and an evenly distribute load, and truss structure with a concentrated loading condition are implemented to optimize the shape. It gives a good design strategy on the optimal truss structure as well as the optimal cantilever beam shape. It is found that the convergence is quickly finished with the iteration number below ten. Optimized shapes of cantilever beam and truss structure are shown with stress contour plot by the results of the subproblem approximation method and the first order approximation methd.
This study presents results of aerodynamic wing optimization under uncertainties. To consider uncertainties, an alternative strategy for reliability-based design optimization(RBDO) is developed. The strategy utilizes a single loop algorithm and a sequential approximation optimization(SAO) technique. The SAO strategy relies on the trust region-SQP framework which validates approximated functions at every iteration. Further improvement in computational efficiency is achieved by applying the same sensitivity of limit state functions in the reliability analysis and in the equivalent deterministic constraint calculation. The framework is examined by solving an analytical test problem to show that the proposed framework has the computational efficiency over existing methods. The proposed strategy enables exploiting the RBDO technique in aerodynamic design. For the aerodynamic wing design problem, the solution converges to the reliable point satisfying the probabilistic constraints.
