Although information design principles had originated from the graphic design field including publishing design in 1970s, information design have taken one of the most important positions in multimedia design fields as the present since Richard Saul Wurmn started his researches on information design and its practical application on internet environments. However, relatively little researches have been performed for building identity of information design in multimedia design fields so far and moreover in some cases, information design is likely to be narrowly viewed as 'the representation of a piece of information and its visualization' which was defined in traditional graphic design field. This research circumstance leads the study to investigate characteristics of information design in current multimedia design with contingent perspective which is compared to the traditional information design. The study results suggest 5 characteristics of information design including 'suggesting context & finding out information hierarchy', 'access of integrated consideration & share of information control', 'using of multi-dimensional media & content first', 'stabilization of information quality & combinational understanding of meaning', 'bilateral information representation & user's knowledge expansion'. Future researches, based on the results of the study, are expected to be expanded to a degree with argument for inter-dependent and/or exclusive characteristics of adjacent fields of information design such as interface design, interaction design and experience design.

This paper explores idea of the integration of text and image information in interior design. In this paper, we designed a structure of text and image information. Text information includes the information about materials and projects, and image information includes images of interior design. Material information consists of such as name and price of materials. Image information involves images of interior design that have been scanned and categorized into 15 groups according to the building regulation. Project information consists of construction brief and materials relevant to the image of interior design. The interior design information that is based on cases offers various information to designer and customers. In addition, the connection between text information and image information improves the quality of interior design by decreasing the trial and error in interior design processes. Finally, we discuss the method that integrates text and image information of interior design.

Architectural design work depends on information made from earlier phases such as feasibility study, planning, and conceptual design. This design guideline information includes design objectives, requirements, and constraints made by decision-making, and has great influence on various works of latter phases of design process. Despite of this cognition, however, the lack of design guideline information management still remains as one among the critical issues in design area. Design tools with design guideline information do not also address the issue of interoperability throughout the life-cycle of buildings. The purpose of this research is to propose a method for design guideline information management by using the IFC technology and IFC Property set (Pset) extension mechanism. The method comprises defining and mapping the practically used design guideline items and extensible IFC data model, and includes the management of relationships that exist between design guideline information and design model in the IFC data model.

Information design is a new scientific subject, which was named in the 20th century. The design methods of information design and the display of information are continually evolving with the change in the world. While sorting out the background and concept of information design, this article aims to identify the issues of information design. One issue is that environmental information design is a vague concept. Thus, leading to this type of information design is without any comprehensive analysis. Second, the impact of culture has not received adequate attention. This article is based on the Japanese Wabi-sabi culture. It analyzes the impact of culture on information design. The article deeply explores the role of Wabi-sabi in information design through case studies, and it reflects the characteristics of design products by culture.

The purpose of this paper is to introduce and propose the vision of information design for the user-friendliness and accessibility for web-based information services. Information design, which focuses more narrowly on the information itself in one or more information units, and may encompass the information aspects of elements of design(labels, knobs, and the physical interface), information content design, page design, Web site design, typography decisions, and so forth. Information design is an alternative to all traditional approaches to information (science, philosophy, and others). Information is designed according to consciously chosen principles and criteria. rather than by following habitual patterns of a traditional profession.

In this paper, we propose the framework of an integrated design system as a CAD system of a new concept that can incorporate the design information. Current CAD systems are powerful in representing the shape of a product with solid models but cannot provide the design information that is used or created in designing the product. Therefore an integrated design system is proposed to enable the storage and usage of the design information in addition to the shape manipulation. In order to represent the design information, we define element object that represents design element such as a part, a sub-assembly or an assembly by using object-oriented methodology. The element object carries various design information such as design parameters, documents, catalogues, functions, and behaviors as well as shapes. By using the stored information, the system can provide a designer with some functions to assist design activity such as interrogating necessary information, setting design parameters and goals, and constructing constraints among design elements. A mailing system is also constructed among element objects to assist a collaborative design. In addition, an evolutionary design method using genetic algorithms is realized within the proposed framework.

This paper describes an information model, devised to manage roadway design information and to improve the collaboration among the multidisciplinary design teams. An analysis concerning the workflow, the rules and the functions of current roadway design was conducted. A process model based on the result of the analysis was developed by utilizing IDEF0 methodology. The process model reflects the interdependencies among multidisciplinary design disciplines and is capable of managing communication processes. This paper also discusses the design information hierarchy and the component representation schemes for systematic design information management. It is anticipated that the proposed information model would be able to improve the overall process of design of roadway construction projects by managing design information and helping the participants communicate and share information of the project effectively.

This study aims to make a method that user of design information can use design information actively, after grasped a demerit that the exiting design information is passively given to user of design information for library architecture. This study with the study purpose has significations as following. Firstly, user of design information is able to use the information proposed in this study more actively than the exiting design information, because the design information in this study is proposed as the relative structures for design solution. Secondly, user of design information is able to have a participation chance for design of public library as a community facility, because the design information in this study plays not only a role in a check list for library space but also a role in normative design information for library design.

UML is used for standardized design, but it has a problem to reuse classified and standardize design information to reuse existing design information. In this paper, the plan to solve these problems design the HYREPnIYbrid REPository) using pattemize design information, and to express together specific property of standardized design information and non standardized design information. It save standardized design information in public area, and non design information in private area. And to express saved design information in repository, UML 1.3 of OMG is used and explained the relationship of the object. Therefore, we designed hybrid repository to express standardized design information and non standardized design information using inheritance concept to remove over adding of pattemized design information.
