The goal of this study is to provide fundamental information on the design of a new diesel injector system. The cylindrical disk spray was made by an impinging disk insited below the exit of air-assist atomizor. The disintegration processes on a twin-fluid atomization by air-assist atomizor were investigated. Liquid jet was disintegrated at the condition that wavelength was equal and longer than the circumference of the liquid jet, .lambda. .geq. .pi.do. However, the wavelength and the diameter of the liquid jet were decreased according to the increasing of air velocity. The relative density distribution of droplets and pattern of spray by impinging disk were investigated with a C-CCD. Optimum design conditions for cylindrical disk spray were also achieved. The pattern of cylindrical spray can classified according to the size of the disk and the distance from the nozzle tip to the disk. When the space of the disk and the nozzle tip was narrow and the diameter of the disk was larger than that of the air orifice of the nozzle exit, the good distribution of spray could be achieved. When the air flowrate was constant, the spray width was decreased according to the increasing of the liquid flowrate. When the liquid flowrate was constant, the spray width was decreased according to the increasing of the air flowrate.
The output performance characteristics for surveyed sites were analyzed, using developed model. It consists of two main parts, the deciding flow duration characteristic of river and performance prediction model to estimate the output characteristics of small hydropower plants. As a result, It was found that the flowrate concerning with 25% of time ratio on flow duration curve can be selected to design flowrate of small hydropower plants, and the output characteristics of small hydropower plants having overflow dam are different from large scale hydropower plants.

Effects of the duct inlet guide vane on the flowrate distribution characteristics of the defroster nozzle exit in a defrost duct system were investigated experimentally to design the optimum heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) system applied in an automotive compartment. A 3-dimensional hot-wire anemometer system was used to measure the velocity field in the vicinity of the defroster nozzle jet flow and the velocity distributions near the windshield interior surface. At first, two cases of with- and without-duct inlet guide vanes were considered as the test condition, and then three cases of the duct inlet guide vane were tested to determine the optimum guide vane shape and their positions. The arrangement of the duct inlet guide vanes has an effect on the improved flowrate distribution at the defroster nozzle exit and near the windshield interior surface. However, the application of the lots of guide vane to control the flow direction leads to increase the flow resistance, resulting in the decreased flowrate issuing from the defroster nozzle. The shape of the duct inlet guide vane affects not only the flowrate distribution between the driver side and the assistant driver side but also the reduction of the flow resistance in the defrost duct system.
This study represents the methodology for feasibility analysis of small hydro power plants. Cumulative density function of Weibull distribution and Thi-essen method were adopted to beside flow duration curve at candidate sites. The performance prediction model and construction cost estimation model for tunnel-type small hydro power plants were developed. Eight candidate sites existing on Han river selected and surveyed for actual sites reconnaissance. The performance characteristics and economical feasibility for these sites were analyzed by using developed models. As a result, it was found that the optimum design flowrates with the lowest unit generation cost for tunnel-type small hydro power plants were the flowrate concerning with between 20 % and 30 % of time ratio on the flow duration curve. Additionally, primary design specifications such as design flowrate, effective head, capacity, annual average load factor, annual electricity production were estimated and discussed for surveyed sites.
The effects of design parameters for small scale hydro power(SSHP) plants due to rainfall condition have been studied. The model to predict hydrologic performance for SSHP plants is used in this study. The results from analysis for rainfall conditions based on KIER model show that the capacity and load factor of SSHP site had large difference between the period. Especially, the hydrologic performance of SSHP site due to rainfall condition of recent period varied in design flowrate sensitively. And also, the methodology represented in this study can be used to decide the primary design specifications of SSHP sites.
The effects of design parameters for small scale hydro power(SSHP) plants due to climate change have been studied. The model to predict hydrologic performance for SSHP plants is used in this study. The results from analysis far rainfall conditions based on KIER model show that the capacity and load factor of SSHP site had large difference between the period. Especially, the hydrologic performance of SSHP site due to rainfall condition of recent period varied in design flowrate sensitively. However climate change gave small effect in load factor of existing SSHP plant. And also, the methodology represented in this study can be used to decide the primary design specifications of SSHP sites.

The objective of this study was to develop an advanced pump technology using tornado and axial pumping principles without priming water. The developed rotor type slurry pump consisted of an electric motor, driving shaft and coupling, a rotor, an impeller, suction and discharge pipes. For the clean water test, the experimental results are presented for the discharge flowrate, electric power input and vacuum pressure with the rotor design parameters as a function of the motor rpm. The slurry discharge characteristics with the solid concentration of the cement slurry was performed. As the rotor diameter and height increase, the discharge flowrate and electric power input increase while the vacuum pressure in the suction pipe decreases. The rotor thickness had no significant effect on the discharge flowrate and electric power input. Slurries with more than 18 % solid concentration, which is the development factor, can be pumped.
Pressure and flowrate control systems for a supercritical extraction process are designed and analyzed. To do this, the dynamic model was first set up using the performance equations of control valves, CO2 compressor and the state equation of the supercritical fluid. Using this model, optimum pairs of manipulated and controlled variable which give least steady stat interaction are determined though the relative gain analysis.
