  • The research and development in soundproof materials for preventing noise have attracted great attention due to their social impact. Noise insulation materials are especially important in the field of soundproofing. Since the insulation ability of most materials follows a mass rule, the heavy weight materials like concrete, lead and steel board are mainly used in the current noise insulation materials. To overcome some weak points in these materials, fiber reinforced composite materials with lightweight and other high performance characteristics are now being used. In this paper, innovative insulation sheet materials with carbon and/or glass fabrics and nano-silica hybrid PU resin are developed. The parameters related to sound performance, such as materials and fabric texture in base fabric, hybrid method of resin, size of silica particle and so on, are investigated. At the same time, the wave analysis code (PZFlex) is used to simulate some of experimental results. As a result, it is found that both bundle density and fabric texture in the base fabrics play an important role on the soundproof performance. Compared with the effect of base fabrics, the transmission loss in sheet materials increased more than 10 dB even though the thickness of the sample was only about 0.7 mm. The results show different values of transmission loss factor when the diameters of silica particles in coating materials changed. It is understood that the effect of the soundproof performance is different due to the change of hybrid method and the size of silica particles. Fillers occupying appropriate positions and with optimum size may achieve a better effect in soundproof performance. The effect of the particle content on the soundproof performance is confirmed, but there is a limit for the addition of the fillers. The optimization of silica content for the improvement of the sound insulation effect is important. It is observed that nano-particles will have better effect on the high soundproof performance. The sound insulation effect has been understood through a comparison between the experimental and analytical results. It is confirmed that the time-domain finite wave analysis (PZFlex) is effective for the prediction and design of soundproof performance materials. Both experimental and analytical results indicate that the developed materials have advantages in lightweight, flexibility, other mechanical properties and excellent soundproof performance.

  • The thermal analysis of an underground power conduit for electrical cables is essential to determine their current capacity with an increasing number of demands for high-voltage underground cables. The temperature rises around a buried cable, caused by excessive heat dissipation, may increase considerably the thermal resistance of the cables, leading to the danger of "thermal runaway" or damaging to insulators. It is a key design factor to develop the mechanism on thermal behavior of backfilling materials for underground power conduits. With a full-scale field test, a numerical model was developed to estimate the temperature change as well as the thermal resistance existing between an underground power conduit and backfill materials. In comparison with the field test, the numerical model for analyzing thermal behavior depending on density, moisture content and soil constituents is verified by the one-year-long field measurement.

  • We practiced fresh water injection test to identify its applibility as a method of seawater intrusion mitigation technique, and monitored the change of borehole fluid conductivity and the behavior of injected fresh water using borehole multichannel electrical conductivity monitoring and well-logging, and DC resistivity and SP monitoring at the surface. Well-logging and multichannel EC monitoring showed the decrease of fluid conductivity due to fresh water injection. We note that such an injection effect lasts more than several month which means the applibility of fresh water injection as a seawater intrusion control technique. Although SP monitoring did not show meaningful results because of weather condition during monitoring and the defects of electrodes due to long operation time, DC resistivity monitoring showed its effectiveness and applicability as a monitoring and assessment techniques of injection test by means of imaging the behavior and the front of fresh water body in terms of the increase of resistivity with reasonable resolution. In conclusion, we note that geophysical techniques can be an effective method of monitoring and evaluation of fresh water injection test, and expect that fresh water injection may be an practical method for the mitigation of seawater intrusion when applied with optimal design of injection well distribution and injection rate based on geophysical evaluation.

  • Magnetic resonance image (MRI) is widely used in brain research field and medical image. Especially, non-invasive brain activation acquired image technique, which is functional magnetic resonance image (fMRI) is used in brain study. In this study, we investigate brain activation occurred by LED light stimulation. For investigate of brain activation in experimental small animal, we used high magnetic field 9.4T MRI. Experimental small animal is Balb/c mouse, method of fMRI is using echo planar image (EPI). EPI method spend more less time than any other MRI method. For this reason, however, EPI data has low contrast. Due to the low contrast, image pre-processing is very hard and inaccuracy. In this study, we planned the study protocol, which is called block design in fMRI research field. The block designed has 8 LED light stimulation session and 8 rest session. All block is consist of 6 EPI images and acquired 1 slice of EPI image is 16 second. During the light session, we occurred LED light stimulation for 1 minutes 36 seconds. During the rest session, we do not occurred light stimulation and remain the light off state for 1 minutes 36 seconds. This session repeat the all over the EPI scan time, so the total spend time of EPI scan has almost 26 minutes. After acquired EPI data, we performed the analysis of this image data. In this study, we analysis of EPI data using statistical parametric map (SPM) software and performed image pre-processing such as realignment, co-registration, normalization, smoothing of EPI data. The pre-processing of fMRI data have to segmented using this software. However this method has 3 different method which is Gaussian nonparametric, warped modulate, and tissue probability map. In this study we performed the this 3 different method and compared how they can change the result of fMRI analysis results. The result of this study show that LED light stimulation was activate superior colliculus region in mouse brain. And the most higher activated value of segmentation method was using tissue probability map. this study may help to improve brain activation study using EPI and SPM analysis.

  • Purpose - This study is to propose a creative idea for constant business growth and development by examining characteristics of business outcomes by phase, which are "growth" and "erosion and stagnation," respectively. Research design, data, methodology - It is necessary to identify an occurrence of crisis and its diffusion with a dynamic model in order to identify a success and failure of businesses in an organic way, not on a binary structure. The static perspective is to understand a crisis as a simply one-time event or as a linear causation. Thus, it has a limited understanding of the overall situation and has limits to investigating a foundational cause and developing long-term countermeasures. On the contrary, the dynamic perspective is to understand the crisis as circulation process of the overall system. Thus, it divides elements of the crisis as external and internal ones to understand it as the causal relationship of each element. Results - During the growth period of Burger King, the company promoted its brand very successfully with aggressive and creative marketing activities. However, due to the founder's disposal of management rights and the following changes in the management, the company had no choice but to lose focus on its business philosophy and brand management, and eventually it had to face the big crisis (resonance) which was delisting from the stock market because of the external threat; well-being trend. However, Burger King resumed lifting on the stock exchange by making great efforts to clearly identify the current issues and seek solutions. Under the spirit of "perseverance" and its slogan "Have it your way" the company is now going head to head with McDonald's in the North American region and emerging countries. Conclusions - Then, what is the most crucial factor in the success and failure of businesses? Answers may vary, however, as learned from the case study of Burger King, corporations should inspect the present and focus on developing a long-term strategy for the future and actively fulfill the actions. McDonald's may not be able to innovate by itself in the future as it may become routinized to the growth. There will be chances of winning if we change conditions of individuals or organizations to an organic system in terms of being creative. There is a hopeful message here that an individual or small business may have more advantages in the era of the idea and innovation.

  • Consider a typical wireless sensor network in which stem nodes form the backbone network of mesh topology while each stem node together with leaf nodes in its vicinity forms a subnetwork of star topology. In such a wireless sensor network, we must heed the following when we design a MAC scheme supporting the packet delivery from a leaf node to a stem node. First, leaf nodes are usually battery-powered and it is difficult to change or recharge their batteries. Secondly, a wireless sensor network is often deployed to collect and update data periodically. Late delivery of a data segment by a sensor node causes the sink node to defer data processing and the data segment itself to be obsolete. Thirdly, extensive signaling is extremely limited and complex computation is hardly supported. Taking account of these facts, a MAC scheme must be able to save energy and support timeliness in packet delivery while being simple and robust as well. In this paper, we propose a version of ALOHA as a MAC scheme for a wireless sensor network. While conserving the simplicity and robustness of the original version of ALOHA, the proposed version of ALOHA possesses a distinctive feature that a sensor node decides between stop and continuation prior to each delivery attempt for a packet. Such a decision needs a stopping rule and we suggest a Bayes stopping rule. Note that a Bayes stopping rule minimizes the Bayes risk which reflects the energy, timeliness and throughput losses. Also, a Bayes stopping rule is practical since a sensor node makes a decision only using its own history of delivery attempt results and the prior information about the failure in delivery attempt. Numerical examples confirm that the proposed version of ALOHA employing a Bayes stopping rule is a useful MAC scheme in the severe environment of wireless sensor network.

  • The children's park, which was created uniformly during the industrialization period, is less utilized and is mainly used by the elderly during the day. In addition, sports facilities and rest facilities for the elderly are being installed, damaging the essence of children's parks. The main purpose of this study was to present the creation of a children's park that was appropriate to its essence and the utilization plan for the elderly. In this study, we conduct a survey to identify citizens' perception of children's parks and found that the opinions of children and the elderly were generally different. Children want to change and enjoy various games, while older people want to enjoy various programs while maintaining the status quo. As above, children do not dislike using the park with the elderly, but hope to create a separate park if possible. Meanwhile, the elderly want to renovate the current children's park and continue to use it. Therefore, in the future, some areas of children's parks will be created for the elderly or the entire area will be changed into small parks for the elderly, considering the location characteristics and population distribution of children's parks. In addition, the government should prepare measures for the introduction of programs for the elderly or maintenance using the elderly.

  • In case of the seabed around and under gravity structures such as submerged breakwater is exposed to a large wave action long period, the excess pore pressure will be generated significantly due to pore volume change associated with rearrangement soil grains. This effect will lead a seabed liquefaction around and under structures as a result from decrease in the effective stress. Under the seabed liquefaction occurred and developed, the possibility of structure failure will be increased eventually. Lee et al.(2016) studied for regular waves, and this study considered for irregular waves with the same numerical analysis method used for regular waves. Under the condition of the irregular wave field, the time and spatial series of the deformation of submerged breakwater, the pore water pressure (oscillatory and residual components) and pore water pressure ratio in the seabed were estimated and their results were compared with those of the regular wave field to evaluate the liquefaction potential on the seabed quantitatively. Although present results are based on a limited number of numerical simulations, one of the study's most important findings is that a more safe design can be obtainable when analyzing case with a regular wave condition corresponding to a significant wave of irregular wave.
