  • Motion recognition is very useful for implementing an intuitive HMI (Human-Machine Interface). In particular, hands are the body parts that can move most precisely with relatively small portion of energy. Thus hand motion has been used as an efficient communication interface with other persons or machines. In this paper, we design and implement a light-weight ANN (Artificial Neural Network)-based hand motion recognition using a state-of-the-art flex sensor. The proposed design consists of data collection from a wearable flex sensor, preprocessing filters, and a light-weight NN (Neural Network) classifier. For verifying the performance and functionality of the proposed design, we implement it on a low-end embedded device. Finally, our experiments and prototype implementation demonstrate that the accuracy of the proposed hand motion recognition achieves up to 98.7%.

  • Purpose - The purpose of this study is to examine firm-level attributes related to Korean manufacturing small and medium-sized enterprises' (SMEs') decisions to implement smart factories. Design/methodology/approach - This study uses the provided by the Ministry of SMEs and Startups of Korea and the Korea Federation of SMEs. Manufacturing SMEs' decisions to implement smart factories in 2018-2019 were analyzed using multinomial logit and ordered logit models. Findings - The findings of this study suggest that firms' decisions to implement smart factories were positively related to firm size, R&D intensity, international market scope, and transactional relationships with customers. However, smart factory implementation decisions were not related to firm age and CEO gender. Research implications or Originality - This study illuminates firm-level attributes that may drive organizational innovation in the era of Industry 4.0 and thus contributes to the innovation adoption literature. This study also contributes to growing research on smart factories by analyzing the actual, progressive decisions to implement smart factories, as opposed to perceived intentions to implement them.

  • In this paper, we compare several methods for implementing a VHDL design database through a case study on VHDL tool development system. We implemented three versions of the VHDL design database which the VHDL tool development system is based on. The first version was coded in the C programming language following value-oriented paradigm. The second one was coded in the C++ programming language following object-oriented paradigm. The third one was implemented using an existing object-oriented database. Based on our experience, we present quantitatively the pros and cons of each implementation method. The value-oriented version was most difficult to implement but showed good performance. Compared to the value- oriented version, the C++ version was twice as easy to implement and showed about the same performance. Using an existing object-oriented database allowed easiest implementation but resulted in a 1.5 to 6 times slower version.

  • In this paper, we design and implement a parallel programming environment using graphicial user interface. Parallel program must be written according to the characters of various hardwares or programs. So it is difficult to write the parallel program. In this paper, we design and implement a parallel programming environment which solved this problem. The traditional parallel compiler provides the parallel information in the text environment. But this paper provides the parallel information using graphicial user interface so that the user may use it more easily. This parallel environment provide functions such as, data dependence analysis, CFG, HTF, and loop transformation.

  • The main issue in the current software development is the development of a reusable and flexible software. Already many successful software development experiences have been proposed to extract patterns of common look, depending on the software environment or depending on the nature of the module you want to implement. Can develop the software quickly and accurately to select fit for the purpose of developing and reuse using experienced patterns. These developments are depending on the success and failure become a new experience and reuse again. Apply design pattern in software development is required, was not an option. In this paper, design and implement to a common framework applied design patterns for the development of reusable software using .NET Remoting in one of the technologies of distributed communication services.

  • The purpose of this paper is to present how to implement Segment_LCD display using SoC design. The SoC design is achieved by using an ARM_based Excalibur device. The Excalibur device offers an outstanding embedded development platform with ARM922T and FPA. The design in the Excailbur device uses the embedded AR띤 Processor core and the AMBA high-performance bus (AHH) to write to a memory-mapped slave peripheral in the FPGA portion of the device. Here, Segment_LCD is one kind of memory-mapped slave peripherals. In order to Implement the Segment_LCD display based on SoC design, four steps are fellowed. At first, IP modules are made by using Verilog HDL. Secondly, the ARM processor of the Excalibur is programmed using C in ADS (ARM Developer Suite). And in the third step, the whole system is simulated and verified. At last, modules are downloaded to SoCMaster kit. Both Quartus II software and ModelSim5.5e software are the key software tools during the design.

  • Since card-type one-time password (OTP) generators became available, power and area consumption has been one of the main issues of hardware OTPs. Because relatively smaller batteries and smaller chip areas are available for this type of OTP compared to existing token-type OTPs, it is necessary to implement power-efficient and compact dedicated OTP hardware modules. In this paper, we design and implement a low-power small-area hardware OTP generator based on the Advanced Encryption Standard (AES). First, we implement a prototype AES hardware module using a 350 nm process to verify the effectiveness of our optimization techniques for the SubBytes transform and data storage. Next, we apply the optimized AES to a real-world OTP hardware module which is implemented using a 180 nm process. Our experimental results show the power consumption of our OTP module using the new AES implementation is only 49.4% and 15.0% of those of an HOTP and software-based OTP, respectively.

  • This paper presents a speed control of AC servo system using LabVIEW program and cRIO (Compact RIO)hardware which is a real-time controller made in National Instruments company. LabVIEW is a GUI programming language easy to implement control system and cRIO is a reconfigurable hardware platform which is very simple. Therefore Lab VIEW and cRIO will be excellent tools to design and implement control system.
