Optimal Shape of Blunt Device for High Speed Vehicle

  • A contact strip shape of a high speed train pantograph system was optimized with CFD to increase the aerodynamic performance and stability of contact force, and the results were validated by a wind tunnel test. For design of the optimal contact strip shape, a Kriging model and genetic algorithm were used to ensure the global search of the optimal point and reduce the computational cost. To enhance the performance and robustness of the contact strip for high speed pantograph, the drag coefficient and the fluctuation of the lift coefficient along the angle of attack were selected as design objectives. Aerodynamic forces were measured by a load cell and HWA (Hot Wire Anemometer) was used to measure the Strouhal number of wake flow. PIV (Particle Image Velocimetry) was adopted to visualize the flow fields. The optimized contact strip shape was shown a lower drag with smaller fluctuation of vertical lift force than the general shaped contact strip. And the acoustic noise source strength of the optimized contact strip was also reduced. Finally, the reduction amount of drag and noise was assessed when the optimized contact strip was applied to three dimensional pantograph system.

Design of a decoupled PID controller via MOCS for seismic control of smart structures

  • In this paper, a decoupled proportional-integral-derivative (PID) control approach for seismic control of smart structures is presented. First, the state space equation of a structure is transformed into modal coordinates and parameters of the modal PID control are separately designed in a reduced modal space. Then, the feedback gain matrix of the controller is obtained based on the contribution of modal responses to the structural responses. The performance of the controller is investigated to adjust control force of piezoelectric friction dampers (PFDs) in a benchmark base isolated building. In order to tune the modal feedback gain of the controller, a suitable trade-off among the conflicting objectives, i.e., the reduction of maximum modal base displacement and the maximum modal floor acceleration of the smart base isolated structure, as well as the maximum modal control force, is created using a multi-objective cuckoo search (MOCS) algorithm. In terms of reduction of maximum base displacement and story acceleration, numerical simulations show that the proposed method performs better than other reported controllers in the literature. Moreover, simulation results show that the PFDs are able to efficiently dissipate the input excitation energy and reduce the damage energy of the structure. Overall, the proposed control strategy provides a simple strategy to tune the control forces and reduces the number of sensors of the control system to the number of controlled stories.

  • In this paper, a new modified independent modal space control(IMSC), which relaxes the fundamental hardware limitation of IMSC, is suggested to handle the vibration and attitude control problem for flexible large structures. This method has adapted a new switching algorithm between controlled modes and a novel design technique for modal control force. The main advantage of this method is to minimize the discontinuity of the modal control forces and to assure the asymptotic stability of the closed-loop systems. This process is shown to be simple and efficient in a realistic example of vibration control of a cantilever beam. It has been found that the modified IMSC suggested in this paper, which can reduce the number of actuators, is highly excellent compared to other previous methods in terms of the performance and stability of the vibration control systems.

  • Structural design, in general, is developed through trial and error technique which is guided by standards criteria and based on the intuition and experience of the engineer, a context that leads to structural over-dimensioning, with uneconomic solutions. Aiming to find the optimal design, structural optimization methods have been developed to find a balance between cost, structural safety, and material performance. These methods have become a great opportunity in the steel structural engineering domain since they have as their main purpose is weight minimization, a factor directly correlated to the real cost of the structure. Assuming an objective function of minimum weight with stress and displacement constraints provided by Brazilian standards, the present research proposes the sizing optimization and combined approach of sizing and shape optimization, through a software developed to implement the Simulated Annealing metaheuristic algorithm. Therefore, two steel plane frame layouts, each admitting four typical truss geometries, were proposed in order to expose the difference between the optimal solutions. The assessment of the optimal solutions indicates a notable weight reduction, especially in sizing and shape optimization combination, in which the quantity of design variables is increased along with the search space, improving the efficiency of the optimal solutions achieved.

공간사용자의 본능적 시선탐색활동에 나타난 주사경로 알고리즘 특성 (The feature of scanning path algorithm shown at natural visual search activities of space user)

  • 본 연구는 지하철 로비공간을 대상으로 한 주시실험을 통해 공간정보의 본능적 시선탐색과정에서 나타나는 주시특성에 나타난 주사경로 알고리즘을 분석하였다. 주시기간 구간별 분석에서 주시시간이 오래 경과할수록 주사유형 횟수가 증가하고 있었는데, 오래 주시할수록 주시단절이 많이 일어난 것으로 해석이 가능하며, 주시에 따른 피로나 활발한 탐색이 자연스러운 공간탐색과정에서 일어나는 과정에서 화상범위를 벗어나는 경우가 많았던 것으로 보인다. 또한 시간구간의 변화에 따른 주사유형의 변화를 추세선으로 살펴본 결과, "집중"은 시간구간의 증가와 함께 가파른 증가, "대각 수직"은 완만한 증가를 보이는 반면, "순환 혼합 수평"은 감소 경향을 보이고 있다. 공간을 주시한 피험자의 주시데이터에는 다양한 시각정보가 포함되어 있는데, "주의집중"에 나타난 주사유형을 분석한 결과, 이상과 같은 의미 있는 결론을 도출할 수 있었다. 이러한 주사유형의 증감특성은 시간의 경과에 따른 주사경향을 파악함에 있어 기초자료가 될 수 있다.

사출성형 설계에서 캐비티 충전 균형을 위한 수지 주입구의 최적 위치 결정에 관한 연구 (A Study on Determining Optimal Gate Positions for Cavity Fill-Uniformity in Injection Molding Design)

  • This study shows an optimization procedure for an automatic determination on the gate position to ensure the fill-uniformity within a part cavity by using the injection molding simulation. For an optimization, the maximum pressure-difference within a part cavity induced at the stage of filling is used to evaluate degree of fill-uniformity. In addition, a direct search scheme based on the reduction of design space is developed and applied in the optimization problem. This corresponding proposed methodology was applied in the optimization on the gate location for a CD-tray molding, as a result, showed the improvement of the fill-uniformity within the cavity.

크리깅을 이용한 자동차 흡기계의 소음 저감에 대한 최적 설계 (The Optimal Design for Noise Reduction of the Intake System in Automobile Using Kriging Model)

  • Recently, the regulations of the government and the concerns of people have rise to the interest in noise pollution levels as compared to other vehicles. In this area, many researchers have studied to reduce this noise in the field of automotive engineering. This paper proposes an optimal design scheme to reduce the noise of the intake system by adapting Kriging with two meta-heuristic techniques. For this, as a measuring tool for the performance of the intake system, the performance prediction software, was used. Then, the length and radius of each component of the current intake system are selected as input variables and the orthogonal arrays is adapted as a space-filling design. With these simulated data, we can estimate a correlation parameter in Kriging by solving the nonlinear problem with a genetic algorithm and find an optimal level for the intake system by optimizing Kriging estimated with simulated annealing. We notice that this optimal design scheme gives noticeable results and is a preferable way to analyze the intake system. Therefore, an optimal design for the intake system is proposed by reducing the noise of its system.

방사형 기저함수 신경회로망 기반 숫자 인식 시스템의 설계 : 전처리 알고리즘을 이용한 인식성능의 비교연구 (Design of Digits Recognition System Based on RBFNNs : A Comparative Study of Pre-processing Algorithms)

  • In this study, we propose a design of digits recognition system based on RBFNNs through a comparative study of pre-processing algorithms in order to recognize digits in handwritten. Histogram of Oriented Gradient(HOG) is used to get the features of digits in the proposed digits recognition system. In the pre-processing part, a dimensional reduction is executed by using Principal Component Analysis(PCA) and (2D)2PCA which are widely adopted methods in order to minimize a loss of the information during the reduction process of feature space. Also, The architecture of radial basis function neural networks consists of three functional modules such as condition, conclusion, and inference part. In the condition part, the input space is partitioned with the use of fuzzy clustering realized by means of the Fuzzy C-Means algorithm. Also, it is used instead of gaussian function to consider the characteristic of input data. In the conclusion part, the connection weights are used as the extended type of polynomial expression such as constant, linear, quadratic and modified quadratic. By using MNIST handwritten digit benchmarking database, experimental results show the effectiveness and efficiency of proposed digit recognition system when compared with other studies.

주성분 분석법을 이용한 회귀다항식 기반 모델 및 패턴 분류기 설계 (Design of Regression Model and Pattern Classifier by Using Principal Component Analysis)

  • 본 논문에서는 매우 높은 차원을 가진 데이터에서 의미 있는 특징 벡터 추출하여 입력 공간의 차원을 줄이기 위하여 주성분 분석법을 사용하였다. 주성분 분석법을 이용하여 축소된 차원을 가진 입력 데이터를 이용하여 회귀 다항식의 입력벡터로 사용하는 모델과 패턴 분류기의 설계 방법을 제안하였다. 제안된 모델 및 패턴 분류기는 매우 단순한 구조를 가진 회귀다항식을 기반으로 설계하여 모델 및 패턴 분류기의 과적합 문제를 해결 하고자 하였다. 제안된 설계방법을 적용하여 설계된 모델과 패턴 분류기의 성능을 비교 및 평가하기 위하여, 다양한 기계 학습 데이터 집합을 사용하였다.

PCA와 LDA를 결합한 데이터 전 처리와 다항식 기반 RBFNNs을 이용한 얼굴 인식 알고리즘 설계 (Design of Face Recognition algorithm Using PCA&LDA combined for Data Pre-Processing and Polynomial-based RBF Neural Networks)

  • In this study, the Polynomial-based Radial Basis Function Neural Networks is proposed as an one of the recognition part of overall face recognition system that consists of two parts such as the preprocessing part and recognition part. The design methodology and procedure of the proposed pRBFNNs are presented to obtain the solution to high-dimensional pattern recognition problems. In data preprocessing part, Principal Component Analysis(PCA) which is generally used in face recognition, which is useful to express some classes using reduction, since it is effective to maintain the rate of recognition and to reduce the amount of data at the same time. However, because of there of the whole face image, it can not guarantee the detection rate about the change of viewpoint and whole image. Thus, to compensate for the defects, Linear Discriminant Analysis(LDA) is used to enhance the separation of different classes. In this paper, we combine the PCA&LDA algorithm and design the optimized pRBFNNs for recognition module. The proposed pRBFNNs architecture consists of three functional modules such as the condition part, the conclusion part, and the inference part as fuzzy rules formed in 'If-then' format. In the condition part of fuzzy rules, input space is partitioned with Fuzzy C-Means clustering. In the conclusion part of rules, the connection weight of pRBFNNs is represented as two kinds of polynomials such as constant, and linear. The coefficients of connection weight identified with back-propagation using gradient descent method. The output of the pRBFNNs model is obtained by fuzzy inference method in the inference part of fuzzy rules. The essential design parameters (including learning rate, momentum coefficient and fuzzification coefficient) of the networks are optimized by means of Differential Evolution. The proposed pRBFNNs are applied to face image(ex Yale, AT&T) datasets and then demonstrated from the viewpoint of the output performance and recognition rate.
