Effects of Manual Therapy on Chemotherapy-Induced Peripheral Neuropathy: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis of Randomized Controlled Trials

  • Objective: Chemotherapy is usually given to inhibit cancer progression. It is the most common side effect of chemotherapyinduced peripheral neuropathy (CIPN) after chemotherapy, and its symptoms include pain such as paresthesia, dysesthesia, allodynia, hyperalgesia, and electrical stimulation. Therefore, in this review, randomized controlled trials (RCTs) were combined to analyze the effect qualitatively and quantitatively in order to find out the effect of manual therapy on patients with CIPN through a meta-analysis. Design: A systematic review and meta-analysis Methods: This review conducted a literature search through international databases (CINAHL, Embase, MEDLINE, Web of Science) in December 2022 to synthesize the effect of manual therapy on the symptomatic improvement of CIPN. Qualitative evaluation (risk of bias) and quantitative evaluation using ReVMan provided by the Cochrane Group were expressed as a random effect model and standardized mean difference (SMD). Results: In four RCTs 165 patients with CIPN were evaluated for symptoms of neuropathy. The experimental group consisting of manual therapy and its subcategories showed significant improvement compared to the control group. The results analyzed through the random effects model were SMD=-1.11; 95% confidence interval, -1.97 to -0.24. Conclusions: We came to the conclusion that manual therapy could significantly contribute to improving the symptoms of CIPN, and since it may vary depending on the technique of manual therapy, further studies on manual therapy suitable for neuropathy are needed.

The Impact of Manual Therapy on Pain Catastrophizing in Chronic Pain Conditions: A Systematic Review and Meta-analysis

  • Objective: Manual therapy is a commonly utilized approach in managing chronic pain, but its specific impact on pain catastrophizing remains uncertain. The objective of this systematic review and meta-analysis was to examine the effects of manual therapy on pain catastrophizing in individuals with chronic pain. Design: A systematic review and meta-analysis Methods: A comprehensive search was conducted in electronic databases to identify relevant studies published from 2014 onwards. Studies that evaluated the impact of manual therapy on pain catastrophizing in individuals with chronic pain were incorporated. The risk of bias in the selected studies was evaluated using the Cochrane tool for risk of bias in qualitative analysis. For the quantitative analysis, RevMan 5.4 software was utilized, employing a random-effects model as the analysis model. The effect measure used in the analysis was the standardized mean difference (SMD). Results: In total, 26 studies were collected, and following the screening process, three of them were incorporated into the final analysis. The included studies involved a total of 153 patients with chronic pain. The interventions comprised various manual therapy techniques targeting different areas of the body. Pain catastrophizing and pain intensity were the primary outcomes of interest. The meta-analysis revealed a significant reduction in pain catastrophizing scores following manual therapy intervention compared to control conditions (SMD = -0.91, 95% CI: -1.25 to -0.58). However, heterogeneity between the studies was observed. Conclusions: Despite the limited quantity and heterogeneity of studies, it has been demonstrated that manual therapy intervention is effective in reducing pain catastrophizing in individuals with chronic pain.

수동표적추적장치의 휴먼운용자 모델링 및 입력명령형성기 설계 (Human Operator Modeling and Input Command Shaping Design for Manual Target Tracking System)

  • A practical method to design the input shaping which generates control command is proposed in this paper, We suggest an experimental technique considering human operator's target tracking error to improve aiming accuracy which significantly affects hit probability. It is known that stabilization performance is one of the most important factors for ground combat vehicle system. In particular, stabilization error of the manual target tracking system mounted on moving vehicle directly affects hit probability. To reduce this error, we applied input command shaping method using preprocessing filtering and functional curve fitting. First of all, we construct the human operator model to consider effects of human operator on our system. Input shaping curve is divided into several regions to get rid of the above problems and to improve the system performance. At example design part, we chose three steps of functional command curve and determine the parameters of the function by the proposed design method. In order to verify the proposed design method, we carried out the experiments with real plant of a fighting vehicle.

온라인 매뉴얼 시스템의 설계 및 구현 (Design and Implementation of On-line Instruction Manual System)

  • 본 논문에서는 재난재해 또는 보안의 이유로 외부와의 통신이 어려운 상황에서도 운용할 수 있도록 외부 데이터 통신 없이 장비와 스마트폰 간의 무선통신만으로 장비 인식과 매뉴얼 데이터 전송을 수행할 수 있는 온라인 매뉴얼 시스템을 설계하고 구현한다. 매뉴얼 데이터가 내장된 매뉴얼 관리 모듈을 대상 장비에 내장한 후 스마트폰에서 수행되는 매뉴얼 앱은 관리 모듈에 부착된 QR 코드 스캔 또는 NFC 접촉으로 장비를 인식하고, 장비가 인식되면 블루투스 통신을 통해 관리 모듈에 내장된 매뉴얼 데이터를 수신하여 웹 템플릿을 이용하여 화면에 표시한다. 구현된 시스템을 실제 산업용 발전기에 설치하여 정전 발생 시 기존의 3단계 처리 과정을 2단계로 줄일 수 있음을 보였다.

Effects of Manual Therapy on Upper Extremity Pain after Breast Cancer Surgery: A Systematic Review and Meta-analysis

  • Objective: The most common type of cancer in women is breast cancer, and pain in the upper extremity and trunk is a discomfort experienced by more than half. Based on the evidence that manual therapy is effective for pain control in postoperative rehabilitation, this study aims to analyze the effects of manual therapy on upper extremity pain and function in patients after breast cancer surgery. Design: A systematic review and meta-analysis. Methods: We searched MEDLINE, Embase, PEDro, and CINAHL databases until August 2021. We included randomized controlled trial evaluating pain and function in patients after breast cancer surgery. Qualitative analysis was performed using Cochrane's risk of bias tool, and quantitative analysis was performed using RevMan 5.4 to analyze post-intervention outcomes. Results: Four randomized controlled trials were selected to evaluate the effects of upper extremity pain and function in 133 patients who underwent manual therapy after breast cancer surgery. In the results of qualitative and quantitative analysis, the experimental group treated with manual therapy showed a significant improvement in pain compared to the control group (-0.62; 95% confidence interval (CI) -0.97 to -0.27). However, there was no significant improvement in upper extremity function (-0.09; 95% CI -0.43 to 0.25). Conclusions: Current evidence shows that manual therapy is effective for pain control in patients who complain of upper extremity pain after breast cancer surgery.

DC 모터 서보 제어기의 자동 설계 S/W 개발 (The Development of Automatic Design Software for DC Motor Servo Controller)

  • This paper deals with the development of an automatic design software for DC servo motor control, which provides good performance with rapid response and velocity control accuracy. In the proposed method, the design is automatically executed using Matlab, and iterative learning control algorithms are used in the design process. We applied this method to 50W, 100W, 200W, 300W, 500W, 750W, 1.8kW and 4.5kW DC servo motors which are widely used in the industry. We compare the results of the manual tuning design method with that of the automatic design method presented in this paper. From the experimental results, we can find that the performance of the proposed method is better than that of the manual tuning design method.

BIM 기반의 고력볼트 마찰접합부 설계자동화 시스템의 프로토타입 구축 (A Development of Prototype Design Automation System for Standard Connections Using High-Strength Bolts based on BIM)

  • 본 연구는 철골 구조물의 실시설계 단계에서 활용 가능한 접합부 설계자동화 시스템의 프로토타입 개발에 관한 것으로 보 이음 마찰접합부를 대상으로 한다. 연구에서 접합부 구조설계를 위하여 한국강구조학회에서 발간된 고력볼트 표준접합 설계편람에서 제시하고 있는 표준설계법 및 접합부 표준화 원칙을 검토하고, 수정 보완하였으며, 이를 근간으로 접합부 구조해석 알고리즘을 작성하였다. 작성된 알고리즘을 토대로 접합부 구조설계를 수행하고, 도출된 구조설계 결과로부터 실시설계 단계의 BIM 모델링 소프트웨어에서 접합부 모델을 자동 생성할 수 있는 설계자동화 시스템을 개발하였다. 개발 시스템의 적용성 및 효율성을 검증하기 위하여 개발 시스템으로부터 도출된 접합부 설계 결과(라이브러리 D/B)와 설계편람에서 제시하고 있는 설계 일람표를 비교 검토하였다. 또한 샘플 모델을 대상으로 개발 시스템을 적용하였으며, 접합부 구조설계 결과와 BIM 모델링 소프트웨어와 연동하여 자동 생성된 모델 및 상세도의 속성을 비교 검토하였다.

For understanding dynamic characteristics of the clutch that is one of the most important elements. the mathematical modeling of the core element of a manual transmission is fulfilled and using this modeling the simulation program is developed. To verify this analysis, the A.M.T dynamomenter is constructed.

커튼월 설치 로봇 컨트롤러의 설계 및 사용성 평가에 관한 연구 (A Study for Usability and Designing Manual Controller of a Curtain‐wall Installation Robot)

  • A construction robot has been developed for higher productivity and better safety in various construction fields. Especially, curtain wall is suitable for outer wall material of tall commercial building and apartment complexes. This heavy material is, however, hard to install with a manpower and outdated equipment. For this reason, the prototype of ASCI (Automation System for Curtain wall Installation) was developed. This system has a robot controller(i.e. hand-held remote control unit) for the transfer information signal between human operator and robot system. Although study has been conducted on manual controller of ASCI, hardly any information is known about the operator's opinion. In this study, a questionnaire was completed by operator to get their opinion about aspects which need to design a more comfortable and productive manual controller of construction machinery, robot included. Through the result of study, it is expected that this technical data is contributed to the robot controller design for comfort and productivity of various industrial machinery.

기능성 소화불량증에 대한 추나요법의 효과 : 체계적 문헌고찰과 메타분석 (Chuna Manual Therapy for Functional Dyspepsia : A Systematic Review and Meta-analysis)

  • Objectives : To evaluate the evidence supporting the effectiveness of Chuna manual therapy for functional dyspepsia. Methods : We conducted search across the 3 electronic databases (Pubmed, CAJ and Oasis) to find all of randomized controlled clinical trials(RCTs) that used Chuna manual therapy as a treatment for functional dyspepsia. The methodological quality of each RCT was assessed using the Cochrane risk of bias tool. Results : Thirteen RCTs met our inclusion criteria. The meta-analysis showed positive results for the use of Chuna manual therapy combined with medication treatments in terms of the efficacy rate when compared to medication treatments alone. Positive results were also obtained, in terms of the efficacy rate, when comparing Chuna manual therapy combined with medication plus specific electromagnetic therapy to medication treatments alone. Conclusions : Our systematic review found encouraging but limited evidence of Chuna manual therapy for functional dyspepsia. However, to obtain stronger evidence without the drawbacks of trial design and the quality of studies, we recommend sham-controlled RCTs or comparative effectiveness research to test the effectiveness of Chuna manual therapy.
