Zinc finger proteins are among the most extensively applied metalloproteins in the field of biotechnology owing to their unique structural and functional aspects as transcriptional and translational regulators. The classical zinc fingers are the largest family of zinc proteins and they provide critical roles in physiological systems from prokaryotes to eukaryotes. Two cysteine and two histidine residues ($Cys_2His_2$) coordinate to the zinc ion for the structural functions to generate a ${\beta}{\beta}{\alpha}$ fold, and this secondary structure supports specific interactions with their binding partners, including DNA, RNA, lipids, proteins, and small molecules. In this account, the structural similarity and differences of well-known $Cys_2His_2$-type zinc fingers such as zinc interaction factor 268 (ZIF268), transcription factor IIIA (TFIIIA), GAGA, and Ros will be explained. These proteins perform their specific roles in species from archaea to eukaryotes and they show significant structural similarity; however, their aligned amino acids present low sequence homology. These zinc finger proteins have different numbers of domains for their structural roles to maintain biological progress through transcriptional regulations from exogenous stresses. The superimposed structures of these finger domains provide interesting details when these fingers are applied to specific gene binding and editing. The structural information in this study will aid in the selection of unique types of zinc finger applications in vivo and in vitro approaches, because biophysical backgrounds including complex structures and binding affinities aid in the protein design area.
In this study, we carried out nonlinear analysis according to various interface nonlinear models by interaction magnitude, and analyzed interface behavior such as distribution of tangential traction and relative slip in steel-concrete composite structure. As a result of this study, tangential traction and relative slip of interface is rapidly increased at the steel plate-concrete interface, especially at the neutral region, rather than tensile, as opposed to the T beam-concrete interface. In transverse direction, it has gradually reduced to go outside from loading position. In longitudinal direction, it was minimum at the central region near the loading point, maximum at 0.6-0.7L from support and gradually reduced as it nears support. Moreover, as the load is increased, the failure of interface gradually expands from the maximum tangential traction position to the entire region. It is expected to provide fundamentality for interface behavior and load-carrying mechanism, and for the design of bending and shear connection of steel-concrete composite structure.
The waterproofing system's performance is known to show a determing by complex interaction of material factors, design details, and the quality of construction, and the waterproofing integrity of waterproofing membranes is determined by the bond to the deck and the amount of damage to the waterproofing membrane. In this research, the basic properties of waterproofing membranes on market and the tensile adhesive chracteristics of waterproofing systems of concrete bridge deck have also been investigated in the view of the damages frequently reported from job site. For the tensile adhesive strength of sheet waterproofing membranes, the results after asphalt concrete paving tends to increase more than before those. The results of the liquid waterproofing membranes are upside-down, and the more concrete has strength, the more strength of tensile adhesive increase. The ambient temperature of asphalt concrete when application of the waterproofing membrane has considerable influence on the performance of waterproofing system. As described above, waterproofing system can be influenced by several factors. If they are not considered under construction, the overlooking will cause the damages of pavement and waterproofing system after traffic opening.
PURPOSES : To ensure appropriate RCC properties with sufficient strength development and workability, it is necessary to secure a proper level of consistency. It is also necessary to secure maximum dry density, which is an important factor for increasing the interaction of aggregate interlocking, leading to an augmentation of RCC strength. On the other hand, the dry density of RCC can be changed owing to the compaction conditions, water content, and particle size distribution. A Proctor test and a modified Proctor test were used for determining the optimum water content needed to achieve maximum dry density with different amounts of compaction energy. A Vebe test, on the other hand, was used for checking the level of consistency, which is important for producing a workable mixture. METHODS : To confirm the degree of compaction at various particle sizes, RCC mixtures with different sand/aggregate ratios were evaluated. The Proctor test and modified Proctor test were applied to these mixtures to check the effect of the aggregate gradation and compaction energy on the maximum dry density and optimum water content. During each test, three specimens were produced for all types of water content under each aggregate gradation. A compaction curve and the optimum water content and maximum dry density for each aggregate gradation were then obtained for both tests. The range of water content for the appropriate consistency of each aggregate gradation was determined through a Vebe test. The optimum water content was then evaluated based on this range. RESULTS : The compaction test results show that the modified Proctor test provides a higher maximum dry density and lower optimum water content compared with the standard Proctor test. For the modified Proctor test, two cases of aggregate gradation (s/a = 30% and 70%) had the optimum water contents outside of the appropriate water content range. For the standard Proctor test, on the other hand, none of aggregate gradations provided the optimum water content within the desired range. CONCLUSIONS : The modified Proctor test should be used for an RCC mixture design because it can provide adequacy between maximum dry density and consistency. Moreover, the compaction roller has become highly developed for higher compaction energy.
This study investigated the effects of a shear slip on the deflection of steel-concretecomposite beams with partial shear interaction. Under the guidance of various current design codes, this deflection was related to the strength of shear connectors in the composite beams. In this paper, a shear connector stiffness based on exact solutions, regardless of loading conditions, was developed. The equivalent rigidity of composite beams that considered three different loading types was first derived, based on equilibrium and curvature compatibility, from which a general formula accounting for slips was developed. To validate this approach, the predicted maximum deflection under the proposed method was compared against currently used equations to calculate beam effective stiffness (AISC)Nie's equations, which have recently been proposed. For typical beams that were used in practice, shear slips might result in stiffness reduction of up to 18% for short-span beams. For full composite sections, the effective section modulus with the AISC specifications was larger than that of the present study, which meant that the specifications were not conservative. For partial composite sections, the AISC predictions were more conservative than those in the present study.

Recently, high performance steels have been utilized to structural materials in buildings and bridges with the demand for high-rise and long-span of main structures. In this paper, flexure-compression members with the high-strength steel were experimentally evaluated to satisfy the design criteria when stub columns fabricated with HSA800 steel were eccentrically loaded. This test was conducted on box-shaped and H-shaped steels stub columns with high-strength steel to verify the P-M interaction of members subjected to combined forces according to axial load ratios. The results showed that all specimens were satisfied the requirements of Korean Building Code(KBC2009) for using of structural members.
The purposes of this study were to investigate the effects of the popularity of menu items in nutrient consumption of school-aged children participating in a School Breakfast Program. The weighed plate waste method was used to determine the nutrient intake of students. The nutrient intake was evaluated based on the popularity of the menu item, gender, and grades. The average intakes of all nutrients except energy, fiber, and sodium were well within the goals. Actual nutrient intake varied based upon the popularity of $entr{\acute{e}}es$ and the popularity of menu items was a main effect in nutrient content of meals. When the most popular $entr{\acute{e}}es$ were served, school-aged children's energy intake and School Breakfast Program participation rate increased. Saturated fat and sodium intakes also were higher than the goal when the most popular $entr{\acute{e}}es$ were served. The significant main effect was grades for total fat (p < 0.05) and calcium (p < 0.05), which was qualified by the two-way interaction between gender and grades for saturated fat (p < 0.05), protein (p<0.1), iron (p<0.01), vitamin C (p<0.01) and carbohydrates (p<0.001). Gender itself was not a significant main effect. Based on the findings, the suggestions for educating school-aged children on more healthful breakfast food choices and reformulating recipes for the popular $entr{\acute{e}}es$ are made. AAD16034 is an alginate lyase from Pseudoalteromonas sp. IAM14594. A very close homologue with known 3D structure exists (marine bacterium Pseudoalteromonas sp. strain no. 272). A three-dimensional structure of AAD16034 was generated based on this template (PDB code: 1J1T) by comparative modeling. The modeled enzyme exhibited a jelly-roll like structure very similar to its template structure. Both enzymes possess the characteristic alginate sequence YFKhG+Y-Q. Since AAD16034 displays enzymatic activity for poly-M alginate, docking of a tri-mannuronate into the modeled structure was performed. Two separate and adjacent binding sites were found. The ligand was accommodated inside each binding site. By considering both binding sites, a plausible binding pose for the poly-M alginate polymer could be deduced. From the modeled docking pose (i.e., the most important factor that attracts alginate polymer into this lyase) the most likely interaction was electrostatic. In accordance with a previous report, the hydroxyl group of Y345 was positioned close to the ${\alpha}$-hydrogen of ${\beta}$-mannuronate, which was suitable to initiate a ${\beta}$-elimination reaction. K347 was also very near to the carboxylatemoiety of the ligand, which might stabilize the dianion intermediate during the ${\beta}$-elimination reaction. This implies that the characteristic alginate sequence is absolutely crucial for the catalysis. These results may be exploited in the design of novel enzymes with desired properties.

Based on a linear potential theory, the boundary element method(BEM) is developed and applied to analyze the hydrodynamic forces and the motion responses of a floating body with a partially reflective sidewall. The hydrodynamic forces (added mass and damping coefficients) are dependent on not only the submergence of a floating body and the reflection of a sidewall, but also the gap between body and sidewall. In particular, the partial reflection of a sidewall plays an importance role in the motion responses of a floating body at resonant frequencies. It reduces the resonant peaks caused by resonance phenomenon due to the wave trapping in an enclosed fluid domain between body and sidewall. Developed predictive tools can be used to assess the motion performance of a floating body for various combinations of configuration of a floating body, wave heading, sidewall properties, and wave characteristics and applied to supply the basic informations for the harbour design considering the motion characteristics of a moored ship.
As a de facto standard for system modeling, UML diagrams have been widely used in the industry. Of these, the class diagram is useful to visualize the classes and their relationships and thus directly influences the forward and reverse processes of system modeling and development. Many earlier studies have attempted to examine as to what impact the layout and complexity of the class diagram would have on the comprehension of system modeling. However, their findings have been equivocal and it is not easy to understand the effects of diagram layout. Accordingly this research relied on the guidelines of diagram layout suggested in the earlier studies and designed a 2 (layout) x 2 (complexity) factorial design to examine their impact on diagram comprehension. 47 subjects were participated in the experiment where class diagrams were provided differently in their layout and complexity. We found that a good layout was significantly more effective than the bad. Furthermore the results were significantly persistent in the complex group than the simple. However, there was no interaction effect between layout and complexity of the diagram.
