Pressure Control Law of Gas Generator Considering Combustion Volume Change (연소공간 변화를 보상하는 가스발생기 압력 제어기법)

  • A pressure control law to regulate pressure of gas generator is suggested. To design a model based control law, the governing equation which consists of Robert and conservation equation is built and verified through the ground burning test. PID and nonlinear adaptive control laws are designed to analyze the loop response characteristics under the system which has varying eigen properties arisen from combustion volume change. It is suggested that new approach, gain scheduling design, is required to overcome the defects identified from numerical simulation results of the two control laws. The newly suggested scheme shows good control performance even under disturbances and measurement noise.

  • In order to understand the operation characteristics and major design parameters of a dual combustion ramjet engine, a fundamental analysis model based on gasdynamics and thermodynamic theories was established. The preliminary performance analysis was accomplished and the results clearly describe the intimate relationship between air inlets, gas generator, and supersonic combustor. The methodology presented provides a means for quantitatively determining the geometries of the gas generator and supersonic combustor and assessing the effects on performance of each of the engine components. Also the design results for a basic configuration were provided.

  • Self-excited induction generators (SEIG) are gaining importance as compared to conventional generators due to their capability toconvert wind energy into electrical energy for a wide range of variation in operating speed. The performance of such a generator depends upon the load, rotor speed and excitation capacitance. Therefore, depending upon the operating conditions, the output voltage and frequency of this machine goes on changing and this imposes a restriction on its usage. In order to maintain constant voltage and frequency, it need controllers, which make the circuit complicated and also increases the overall cost of power generation. This paper presents a simple controller to regulate the output voltage and frequency of SEIG for variation in its operating conditions due to any change in load, rotor speed and excitation capacitance (R, N, C) and their combination. The controller presented is simple in design, user friendly and is also less expensive, as the elements used in the controller are only resistors, inductors and capacitors. A block of SEIG for steady state operation is also modeled and presented in this paper. SEIG, Controller and other components are modeled and simulated using Matlab/Simulink.

  • The triggered vacuum switch (TVS) is widely used as a high power switch in the field of pulsed power application. TVS can produce current of higher than 100 kA within a microsecond after being triggered. A triggering high voltage pulse generator supplies a high voltage signal to the trigger system to initiate the discharge between a trigger pin and one of main electrode. The trigger system, which consists of a tungsten trigger electrode and cylindrical ceramic insulator around it, is normally installed at the center of main cathode electrode. The discharging characteristics of the trigger system strongly depend on the geometry, electrode material, vacuum pressure and so on. In addition, we especially will focus on the developing a triggering pulse generator, which can vary not only value of voltage but also pulse duration, because its properties gives pivot influences on the TVS discharge. To verify such effects, we made a 3.3 kJ TVS set-up initially. Thus we will discuss some of prominent results from 3.3 kJ TVS system. In parallel we will show on the design of 300 kJ TVS system for the high current in the future.

A Numerical Analysis for Optimal Design of Road Generator System (도로용 발전장치 최적화 설계를 위한 수치해석)

  • In this study, a modeling method is based on representing a road generation system with several rigid bodies, i.e, pad, shaft, torsional damper, oneway-clutch, gear system, and electricity generator. The simulation software is developed to evaluate the performance of a road generation system. It is used to determine parametric dimension for optimal design with the theoretically calculated results from the simulation software. The parametric dimensions are included as capacity, length, and angle of equipment. The transient responses at the conditions of low and high vehicle speed are compared with the calculated results as torque, power, out energy etc. Consequently, before manufacturing system, the analysis of simulation results shows that the proposed concept and system has efficiency and confidence.

  • The resilient mounts of a diesel engine installed onboard a ship should be designed for both static and dynamic loads. If possible, the resonance frequencies of the six rigid body modes of the installation and the flexible modes of the engine support structure should not lie within the engine operation range. In this paper a design criterion is proposed to evaluate an isolation system which involves the summation of dynamic forces transmitted through the resilient mounts and elastic potential energy index stored in the mounts. A case study is also presented in which a diesel engine generator, which had an elastic foundation and was mounted in a 5500 TEU container vessel, was studied both theoretically and experimentally. The theoretical analysis of the test model was performed by using a single mass 6 degree of freedom system. Actual measurements of mechanical vibration of the Engine and its foundation onboard were carried out, which showed the importance of including the flexibility of the engine support structure in the mode

  • SMART-P is a promising advanced small and medium category nuclear power reactor. It is an integral type reactor with a sensible mixture of new innovative design features and proven technologies aimed at achieving a highly enhanced safety and improved economics. The enhancement of the safety and reliability is realized by incorporating inherent safety improving features and reliable passive safety systems. The improvement in the economics is achieved through a system simplification, and component modularization. Preliminary safety analyses on selected limiting accidents confirm that the inherent safety improving design characteristics and the safety system of SMART-P ensure the reactor's safety. SMART-P is an advanced integral pressurized water reactor. The purpose of this study is for the safety analysis of the steam generator module pipe break for the SMART-P. The integrity of the fuel rod is the major criteria of this analysis. As a result of this analysis, the safety of the RCS and the secondary system is guaranteed against the module pipe break of a steam generator of the SMART-P.

  • Hydrogen peroxide turbopump was designed for bi-propellant liquid rocket engine using hydrogen peroxide and kerosene as propellants. Turbopump operation was verified through water tests. Design conditions of hydrogen peroxide turbopump were determined, and impeller was designed. Turbine which drives pump was selected from commercial turbocharger. Gas generator was designed by reference from turbine map. Pump, turbine, gas generator were integrated, and turbopump system was constructed. Turbopump supplied water by 1.47 bar of pressure and as well as 3.4 kg/s of mass flow rate.

Lateral Vehicle Control Based on Active Flight Control Technology

  • In this paper, a lateral vehicle control using the concept of control configured vehicle (CCV) is presented. The control objectives for the lateral dynamics of a vehicle include the ability to follow a chosen variable without significant motion change in other specified variables. The analysis techniques for decoupling of the aircraft motions are utilized to develop vehicle lateral control with advanced mode. Vehicle lateral dynamic is determined to have the steering input and control torque input. The additional vehicle modes are also defined to using CCV concept. We use right eigenstructure assignment techniques and command generator tracker to design a control law for an lateral vehicle dynamics. The desired eigenvectors are chosen to achieve the desired decoupling (i.e., lateral direction speed and yaw rate). The command generator tracker is used to ensure steady-state tracking of the driver's command. Finally, the developed design is utilized by using the lateral vehicle dynamic with four wheel.
