Model verification and validation (V&V) is a current research topic to build computational models with high predictive capability by addressing the general concepts, processes and statistical techniques. The hypothesis test for validity check is one of the model validation techniques and gives a guideline to evaluate the validity of a computational model when limited experimental data only exist due to restricted test resources (e.g., time and budget). The hypothesis test for validity check mainly employ Type I error, the risk of rejecting the valid computational model, for the validity evaluation since quantification of Type II error is not feasible for model validation. However, Type II error, the risk of accepting invalid computational model, should be importantly considered for an engineered products having high risk on predicted results. This paper proposes a technique named as the response-adaptive experimental design to reduce Type II error by adaptively designing experimental conditions for the validation experiment. A tire tread block problem and a numerical example are employed to show the effectiveness of the response-adaptive experimental design for the validity evaluation.

Existing CAD systems do not provide advanced functions for automatic checking design and drafting errors in mechanical drawings. If the knowledge of checking in mechanical ddrsfting can be implemented into computers, CAD systems could automatically check for design and drafting errors. This paper describes a method for systematic checking of dimension errors. such as deficiency and/or redundancy of dimension input-errors in dimension figures and symbols, etc. The logic for finding dimensional errors is written by using a proccedural language. A geometric model and a topological-graph model are used in this method. Checking for deficiency and redundancy of dimensions is based upon graph Theory.
In this paper, we design the $H_{\infty}$ controllers satisfying robust stability and performance for underwater vehicle. The underwater vehicle has computations delay time and input delay. In addition, there exist parameter uncertainties by the roll motion coefficient error, buoyance error, and gravity error. We design the $H_{\infty}$ controllers using model-matching method and check the performance of the proposed controller by nonlinear simulation which includes time delay model, sensor error model, and actuator model.

Optimum design of the tooth surface for the reduction of transmission error is very difficult to determine analytically due to nonlinearity of transmission error under the several load condition. The design of tooth surface that can give a low noise under the various load condition is very important. Therefore, this study proposes the method to determine the optimal lead curve and robust design of the tooth surface by using the response surface method. To do so, the design variables are selected by a screening experiment. Then the fitted regression model Is built with the check of the usefulness of the model. The model with constraints is solved to obtain the optimum values for the lead curve and the robust design fur the tooth surface.

The risk of project execution increases due to the enlargement and complexity of Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) plant projects. In the fourth industrial revolution era, there is an increasing need to utilize a large amount of data generated during project execution. The design is a key element for the success of the EPC plant project. Although the design cost is about 5% of the total EPC project cost, it is a critical process that affects the entire subsequent process, such as construction, installation, and operation & maintenance (O&M). This study aims to develop a system using machine-learning (ML) techniques to predict risks and support decision-making based on big data generated in an EPC project's design and construction stages. As a result, three main modules were developed: (M1) the design cost estimation module, (M2) the design error check module, and (M3) the change order forecasting module. M1 estimated design cost based on project data such as contract amount, construction period, total design cost, and man-hour (M/H). M2 and M3 are applications for predicting the severity of schedule delay and cost over-run due to design errors and change orders through unstructured text data extracted from engineering documents. A validation test was performed through a case study to verify the model applied to each module. It is expected to improve the risk response capability of EPC contractors in the design and construction stage through this study.

In designing fuzzy model, we encounter a major difficulty in the identification of an optimized fuzzy rule base, which is traditionally achieved by a tedious-and-error process. This paper presents an approach to automatic design of optimal fuzzy rule bases for modeling using evolutionary programming. Evolutionary programming evolves simultaneously the structure and the parameter of fuzzy rule base a given task. To check the effectiveness of the suggested approach, 3 examples for modeling are examined, and the performance of the identified models are demonstrated.
The BIM design is expected to expand to the domestic and overseas construction industries, depending on the effect of construction productivity and quality improvement. However, with the obligation of Public Procurement Service to design the BIM design, it includes a design error and the problem of utilization of 3D design by choosing a simple 2D to 3D remodelling method that can not be modelled in 3D modeling or use of the construction and maintenance phases. The results reviewed by BIM design results were largely underutilized and were not even performed with the verification of the error. In order to resolve this, one must develop the check system that secures the quality of BIM design and ensure that the reliability of BIM results are available. In this study, it is designed to develop a program that can automatically verify the design of the BIM design results such as violation of the rules of the BIM design, design flaws, and improve the usability of the BIM design. In particular, this programs were developed not only to identify programmes that were not commercially available, but also to validate drawings in low-light computer environments. The developed program(LH-BIM) store the information of attribute extracted from the Revit file(ArchiCAD, IFC file included) in the integrated DB. This provides the ability to freely lookup the features and properties of drawings delivered exclusively by the LH-BIM Program without using the Revit tools. By doing so, it was possible to resolve the difficulties of using traditional commercial programs and to ensure that they operate only with traditional PC performance. Further, the results of the various BIM software can be readily validated, which can be solved the conversion process error of IFC in the case of SMC. Additionally, the developed program has the ability to automatically check the error and design criteria of the drawings, as well as the ability to calculate the area estimation. These functions allow businesses to apply simple and easy tasks to operate tasks of BIM modelling. The developed system(LH-BIM) carried out a verification test by reviewing the review of the BIM Design model of the Korea Land & Housing Corporation. It is hoped that the verification system will not only be able to achieve the Quality of BIM design, but also contribute to the expansion of BIM and future construction BIM.
The demand for new processing technology that can improve productivity is increasing in industries that require large-scale and various products. In response to this demand, a robot machining system with flexibility is required. Because of the low rigidity of the robot, the robot machining system has a large error during machining and is vulnerable to vibration generated during machining. Vibration generated during machining deteriorates machining quality and reduces the durability of the machine. To solve this problem, a stage for fixing the spindle during machining is required. In order to compensate for the robot's low rigidity, a system combining a piezoelectric actuator for generating a large force and a guide mechanism to actuate with a desired direction is required. Since the rigidity of flexible hinges varies depending on the structure, it is important to optimal design the flexible hinge and high-rigidity system. The purpose of this research is to make analytic model and optimize a flexible hinge and to design a high rigidity stage. In this research, to design a flexible hinge stage, a concept design of system for high rigidity and flexure hinge modeling is carried out. Based on analytic modeling, the optimal design for the purpose of high rigidity is finished and the optimal design results is used to check the error between the modeling and actual simulation results.

A general analysis of an aperture-coupled vertically mounted strip antenna is presented to examine its circuit characteristics. Based on the present analysis, an equivalent circuit model is developed, and an analytic or semi-analytic evaluation of the related circuit element values is described. The effects of structure parameters on the antenna characteristics were studied with the developed equivalent circuit, and the design curves were obtained. To check the validity of the proposed analysis and design theory, two C-band antennas (5.0 GHz and 4.5 GHz) were designed and fabricated. Their computed characteristics, derived from the proposed network analysis, were compared with the measurement and simulation results. The error of the current model in predicting the operating center frequency was less than 0.50 %. In addition, the observed bandwidth was found to be comparable to the conventional microstrip antennas. All the results fully validated the efficiency and accuracy of the proposed analysis and network model.
In asynchronous transfer mode (ATM) networks, fixed length cells of 53 bytes are transmitted. A cell may be discarded during transmission due to buffer overflow or a detection of errors. Cell discarding seriously degrades transmission quality. The quality degradation can be reduced by employing efficient forward error control (FEC) to recover discarded cells. In this paper, we present the design and implementation of decoding equipment for FEC in ATM networks based on a single parity check (SPC) product code using very-large-scale integration (VLSI) technology. FEC allows the destination to reconstruct missing data cells by using redundant parity cells that the source adds to each block of data cells. The functionality of the design has been tested using the Model Sim 5.7cXE Simulation Package. The design has been implemented for a $5{\times}5$ matrix of data cells in a Virtex-E XCV 3200E FG1156 device. The simulation and synthesis results show that the decoding function can be completed in 81 clock cycles with an optimum clock of 56.8 MHz. A test bench was written to study the performance of the decoder, and the results are presented.
