지리적으로 분산된 디자이너들을 위한 3D 디자인 협업 환경 - 공유 조작과 원격 실재감을 지원하는 증강현실 기반 인터랙션 기법을 중심으로 - (Collaborative 3D Design Workspace for Geographically Distributed Designers - With the Emphasis on Augmented Reality Based Interaction Techniques Supporting Shared Manipulation and Telepresence -)

  • 국제화, 전문화, 분업화 되고 있는 비즈니스 환경으로 인해 제품 디자인 프로세스에서 협업의 중요성은 날로 높아지고 있다. 본 연구에서는 서로 다른 공간에 존재하는 디자인 전문가들이 3D 모델을 함께 검토하고 논의할 수 있는 실시간 원격디자인 협업 환경을 제안한다. 특히 원격 협업 환경에서 원격 실재감, 공유조작, 상대 인식 등의 비언어적인 의사소통 방법을 제공하는 새로운 인터랙션 기법을 개발하고, 디자인 리뷰와 관련된 작업에 어떠한 영향을 끼치는지 평가하였다. 관련연구 조사와 디자인 협업 행태의 관찰 실험을 기반으로 작업대상 관련, 작업공간 관련, 상대인식 관련 요구사항을 도출하였다. 이를 충족시키기 위해 증강현실(Augmented Reality) 기반의 3차원 원격 협업 환경을 구축하였고 원격 사용자에 대한 존재감을 제공하는 회전원반(Turn-table)과 가상그림자(Virtual Shadow)라는 인터랙션 도구를 개발하였다. 회전원반은 가상모델의 조작에 직관성을 부여하고 상대의 조작에 물리적인 단서를 제공한다. 가상그림자는 상대의 위치, 제스처, 지시 등의 인식 정보를 지속적이고 자연스럽게 제공한다. 평가 실험을 통하여 새로운 인터랙션 도구들이 3D 모델의 검토에 있어서 대략적인 지시를 효과적으로 지원하며 수정사항에 대한 논의를 촉진시킴을 알 수 있었다. 연구 결과는 가상의 3차원 모델을 다루는 원격에 위치한 사용자들(디자이너-디자이너, 디자이너-엔지니어, 혹은 디자이너-모델러 등) 간의 자연스러운 의사소통을 촉진하고 협업의 효율을 증대시키는데 기여할 수 있다.

Precedent based design foundations for parametric design: The case of navigation and wayfinding

  • Parametric design systems serve as powerful assistive tools in the design process by providing a flexible approach for the generation of a vast number of design alternatives. However, contemporary parametric design systems focus primarily on low-level engineering and structural forms, without an explicit means to also take into account high-level, cognitively motivated people-centred design goals. We present a precedent-based parametric design method that integrates people-centred design "precedents" rooted in empirical evidence directly within state of the art parametric design systems. As a use-case, we illustrate the general method in the context of an empirical study focusing on the multi-modal analysis of wayfinding behaviour in two large-scale healthcare environments. With this use-case, we demonstrate the manner in which: (1). a range of empirically established design precedents -e.g., pertaining to visibility and navigation- may be articulated as design constraints to be embedded directly within state of the art parametric design tools (e.g., Grasshopper); and (2). embedded design precedents lead to the (parametric) generation of a number of morphologies that satisfy people-centred design criteria (in this case, pertaining to wayfinding). Our research presents an exemplar for the integration of cognitively motivated design goals with parametric design-space exploration methods. We posit that this opens-up a range of technological challenges for the engineering and development of next-generation computer aided architecture design systems.

  • To construct road spatial information database, it is the main object of this study that an analysis of road factors and furthermore this is used to the rescue activities in case of urban disasters. When urban disasters such as earthquake or explosion cause fire and collapses people of the affected region happen to evacuate. But only to manage roads and monitor traffic volume, the road data is designed and managed using digital topographic map so it is short that the design of road spatial data to prevent disasters. In this study, we tried to suggest the evaluative factors of evacuation to design database : road width, traffic volume, the fixed or movable obstacles installed, the surrounding environments that dominate the land-use planning, the uses, materials, structures, sizes, and densities of the buildings. Thus, these could provide fundamental data to determine the disasters management planning for evacuation and rescue activities, to evaluate the riskiness, and to draw up hazard information map.

  • Recent development cases of transportation utilities using tunnelling method in metropolitan sites have been increased due to the heavily complex environments and restrictions of construction works. The progress of tunnel design and construction to be supported by the tunnel analysis and measurement techniques using computers have increased adoptions of large section tunnels. In this paper, many factors to be considered in designing large section tunnels are discussed and the case of the construction of the subway station tunnel which is recently completed is introduced. This tunnel has a width of 24 m, a height of 16 m, and a excavation section area of 366 ㎡.

  • Unmanned Helicopter has several abilities such as vertical Take off, hovering, low speed flight at low altitude. Such vehicles are becoming popular in actual applications such as search and rescue, aerial reconnaissance and surveillance. These vehicles also used under risky environments without threatening the life of a pilot. Since a small aerial vehicle is very sensitive to environmental conditions, it is generally known that the flight control is very difficult problems. In this paper, a flight control system was designed for an unmanned helicopter. This paper was concentrated on describing the mechanical design, electronic equipments and their interconnections for acquiring autonomous flight. The design methodologies and performance of the helicopter were illustrated and verified with a linearized equation of motion. The LQG based estimator and controller was designed and tested for this unmanned helicopter.

  • Introduction of PLM in domestic shipyards is being retarded as ship PLM has yet to firm up return of investment and process integration. To implement a ship PLM system, it is required to share ship CAD model data in various design and manufacturing environments. Lightweight CAD models provide a promising solution for sharing CAD models in the product life cycle, which can expedite implementation of ship PLM in domestic shipyards in the near future. Compared to proprietary CAD models, it is easy for lightweight CAD models to be interfaced with various application systems and be connected to manufacturing information. In this paper, the reason why lightweight CAD models are necessary to implement a ship PLM system is addressed and current implementation results are introduced.

한국 연안의 극히 파랑환경과 Freak Wave의 특성에 관한 연구 (Extreme and Freak Wave Characteristics in the Coastal Writers of Korean Peninsula)

  • Extreme environments and freak wave characteristics in the coastal waters of Korean Peninsula are analyzed using the observed wave data. Freak wave has been intensely emphasized as an important environmental force parameter in several recent research works. However, the mechanism and occurrence probability of freak wave are not clarified. The aims of this study we: to summarize the distribution of extreme environment for wind waves, and to find occurrence probability of freak wave in the coastal waters of Korean Peninsula. These extreme sea conditions are discussed by applying extreme value analysis method, and the statistic characteristics are summarized which can be used to the design and analysis of coastal structures. The mechanism and the occurrence probability of freak wave are also discussed in detail using wave parameters in considered with wave deformation in the coastal waters. 온라인 시험 및 평가 시스템 설계 방안 (A Design Scheme of Online Test and Evaluation System)

  • This paper describes a design scheme of a system that tests or polls from the students at online class. By online test, the teacher can test the pre-knowledge level of the students and know how much students understand the lecture of the class. As the number of test increases, the burden of the preparation of setting question, evaluation of the test, and management of the test results is increased. In this environments, an online test management system make it easy to test and evaluate, and thus it would be a good tool for maintaining and managing the total procedure of the test or poll of the students. For evaluating the design of the system, we made a test system prototype and performed evaluations of the online test system. The online test and evaluation system provides a good tool for testing and evaluation of student's knowledge at the class with easy and fast way.

  • Diverse approaches for reducing the total energy consumption of machine tools have been introduced and developed, to cope with rapid increase of total energy costs in world-wide manufacturing industries. To realize the improvement of the energy efficiency, systematic and integrated strategies must be considered, including energy-saving design, optimized control operation and concrete evaluation of the energy efficiency. This paper proposes key enabling technologies required to improve the energy efficiency of 5-axis multi-functional machining tools, considering both of system design and operation in the real production environments. Related standardized procedures of the energy efficiency evaluation is also represented.

Design of a New Capsule Controlling Neutron Flux and Fluence and Temperature of lest Specimen

  • A new capsule that has a unique structure in which the test environments including neutron flux and fluence, and irradiation temperature can be controlled precisely during irradiation, was conceptually designed. The capsule structure and instrumentation were successfully designed according to the JMTR's standard procedures of capsule design. Based on the target irradiation, the details of the irradiation such as neutron fluence and irradiation temperature ore calculated and the related capsule safety was evaluated. In addition, the effects of design parameters including the changes in inner-capsule configuration, heater capacity, and Helium gas pressure on the specimen temperature were analyzed with a computer program. Through these thermal and strength evaluations, this capsule was proved to be safe during the irradiation in the JMTR.
