  • Laboratory testing of representative rock specimens is of fundamental necessity for the successful design and/or assessment of facilities associated with many kinds of underground exploitation, including the geological disposal of radioactive nuclear waste. As a fundamental and systematic study, a series of measurements of the physical, mechanical and hydraulic properties of Inada granite and Shirahama sandstone, two rock types that are widely available in Japan, have been performed. This paper presents the results of a study of the effective porosity, density, compressive and shear wave velocity, unconfined compressive strength and permeability of the two rocks. The anisotropy and the effects of confining pressure on the permeability of the rocks, as well as the relationships among the physical, mechanical and hydraulic properties, are also investigated and discussed.

  • This paper presents a novel multicast architecture for shared multibuffer ATM switch, which is tailored for throughput enhancement in multicast environments. The address queues for multicast cells are separated from those for unicast cells to arbitrate multicast cells independently from unicast cells. Three read cycles are carried out during each cell slot and multicast cells have chances to be read from shared buffer memory(SBM) in the third read cycle provided that the shared memory is not accessed to read a unicast cell. In this architecture, maximum two cells are queued at each fabric output port per time slot and output mask choose only one cell. Extensive simulations are carried out and it shows that the proposed architecture has enhanced throughput comparing with other multicast schemes in shared multibuffer switch architecture.

  • Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) is an important part of interorganizational electronic commerce due to the strategic impact derived from its use. In order to ensure successful implementation of EDI, EDI controls must first be developed. Because they are implemented in an environmental context, the characteristics of organizational environments have a significant impact on EDI controls. The control strategy for the EDI system - formal, informal, and automated controls - should fit certain organizational environments. A research model has been developed to depict the moderating effects of six environmental variables including industry, organizational, and task characteristics on the relationships between controls and implementation. It is shown empirically that the relationships between EDI controls and implementation are indeed affected by these factors. The results can help management design formal, informal, and automated controls in view of their own environmental contexts.

  • The Distributed system environments are developing into a structure of the opening information communication network based on object-oriented concepts and distributed technologies. Such a reason is that it can not only decrease the complexity of distributed softwares, but also support object oriented application services to distributed environments without changes of its own communication network structure. In this paper, we designed object group model, that is, an extended middleware, we developed before. The distributed environment suggested consists of the CTS server and clients. As our results, we showed the interaction procedures between/among object groups and service procedures of distributed application in given distributed system.

  • This paper applies RBAC policy for solving on the security problems when it will be operated several business on the distributed environments and designed Extended RBAC (ERBAC) model that it is possible to manage security systems on the distributed environments. The designed ERBAC model is based on RBAC96 model due to Sandu et al and added role delegations. Therefor, the designed ERBAC model have the advantage of the following . it can be processed of business without interrupts and implemented server system without modifying its source code, high migration, easy and simple of secure managing.

  • The electric power industries are moving from the conventional monopolistic or vertically integrated environments to deregulated and competitive environments, where each participant is concerned with profit maximization rather than system-wide costs minimization. Consequently, the conventional least-cost approaches for the generation resource schedule can not exactly handle real-world situations. This paper presents a game theory application for analyzing power transactions and market design in a deregulated energy marketplace, where the market participants determine the net profits through the optimal bidding strategies. The demand elasticity of the energy price is considered for the realistic modeling of the deregulated marketplace.

  • In this paper, we propose a robust speech recognition system under noisy environments. Since the presence of noise severely degrades the performance of speech recognition system, it is important to design the robust speech recognition method against noise. The proposed method adopts a new distance measure technique based on stochastic probability instead of conventional method using minimum error. For evaluating the performance of the proposed method, we compared it with conventional distance measure for the 10-isolated Korean digits with car noise. Here, the proposed method showed better recognition rate than conventional distance measure for the various car noisy environments.

  • The objective of the present study is to develop a thermal comfort measurement system for ergonomic sensibility analysis. The system can measure basic components for thermal comfort, such as skin temperature and clothing temperature/humidity level. A study on the linearization of temperature and humidity sensors has been conducted for more accurate and stable sensor development. The software has been developed for thermal comfort analysis for both clothing thermal environments and indoor environments.

  • The NAVER is based on a cluster of low-cost personal computers. The goal of NAVER is to provide flexible, extensible, scalable and re-configurable framework for the diverse virtual environments especially for Gamsung research experiments. Personal computers are divided into three servers are according to their specific functions: Render Server, Device Server and Control Server. While Device Server contains external modules requiring event-based communication for the integration, Control Server contains external modules requiring synchronous communication every frame. And, the Render Server consists of 5 managers: Scenario Manager, Event Manger, Command Manager, Interaction Manager and Sync Manager. In this paper, we discuss NAVER as effective distributed system and its application to Gamsung experiment.

  • A high-performance time-division multiplexing (TDM) -based multiuser (MU) multiple-input multipleoutput (MIMO) system for efficient indoor visible-light communication (VLC) is presented. In this work, a MIMO technique based on RGB light-emitting diodes (LEDs) with selection combining (SC) is utilized for data transmission. That is, the proposed scheme employs RGB LEDs for parallel transmission of user data and transmits MU data in predefined slots of a time frame with a simple and efficient design, to schedule the transmission times for multiple users. Simulation results demonstrate that the proposed scheme offers an approximately 6 dB gain in signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) at a bit error rate (BER) of $3{\times}10^{-5}$, as compared to conventional MU single-input single-output (SISO) systems. Moreover, a data rate of 66.7 Mbps/user at a BER of $10^{-3}$ is achieved for 10 users in indoor VLC environments.
