  • It was observed that adsorption characteristics of sulfonated fabric ion-exchanger for separating nickel ion from electroplating rinse water. Swelling ratio was increased by increasing degree of sulfonation and polarity of solvent. Ion-exchange capacity was also increased by increasing degree of sulfonation and showed 3.38 meq/g at 16% sulfonated ion-exchanger. There was little effects of pH. Adsorption equilibrium was attained within 10 min, and adsorption rate was 7.5 mg/min. Adsorption capacity was not changed after 7 cycles of regeneration process. Regeneration adsorption capacity was slightly decreased to 2.01 meq/g. It confirmed that durability of sulfonated fabric ion-exchanger was suitable for adsorption process. Adsorption equilibrium time was linearly increased by increasing L/D and adsorption capacity showed the ion exchange capacity within the range of 2.71 ∼ 3.01 meq/g in continuous process. Design of adsorption column could be possible for L/D<2. Under constant L/D condition, there is no little pH effect when rinse water is acidic solution, and operation condition of adsorption process was optimized under pH 5.

  • Stainless-clad (SC) bimetallic steels that are manufactured by metallurgically bonding stainless steels as cladding metal and conventional mild steels as substrate metal, are kind of advanced steel plate products. Such advanced composite steels are gaining increasingly widespread usage in a range of engineering structures and have great potential to be used extensively for large civil and building infrastructures. Unfortunately, research work on the SC bimetallic steels from material level to structural design level for the applications in structural engineering field is very limited. Therefore, the aim of this paper is to investigate the material behaviour of the SC bimetallic steels under the cyclic loading which structural steels usually could encounter in seismic scenario. A number of SC bimetallic steel coupon specimens are tested under monotonic and cyclic loadings. The experimental monotonic and cyclic stress-strain curves of the SC bimetallic steels are obtained and analysed. The effects of the clad ratio that is defined as the ratio of the thickness of cladding layer to the total thickness of SC bimetallic steel plate on the monotonic and cyclic behaviour of the SC bimetallic steels are studied. Based on the experimental observations, a cyclic constitutive model with combined hardening criterion is recommended for numerical simulation of the cyclic behaviour of the SC bimetallic steels. The parameters of the constitutive model for the SC bimetallic steels with various clad ratios are calibrated. The research outcome presented in this paper may provide essential reference for further seismic analysis of structures fabricated from the SC bimetallic steels.

  • There has been increasing interest in developing Structure Health Monitoring(SHM) system based on wireless sensor network(WSN) due to recent advancement in sensor network technologies. SHM is the continuous monitoring of the condition such a acceleration or load of a structure. The SHM system works, which measure key structure parameters systematically, provide information in evaluation of structure integrity, durability and reliability. Currently SHM system collects data via analog sensor and then sends to analysis application through the wired network. The wire system support high accuracy, but suffers the disadvantages in installation costs, complexity of connection and loss of line. It's also difficult to add new sensor nodes. We design and implement the SHM system based on WSN technology to solve those problems.

  • Although applying self-consolidating concrete (SCC) in many modern structures is an inevitable fact, the high consumption of cement in its mixing designs has led to increased production costs and adverse environmental effects. In order to find economically viable sources with environmentally friendly features, natural pozzolan pumice and blast furnace slag in 10-50% of replacement binary designs have been investigated for experiments on the properties of fresh concrete, mechanical properties, and durability. As a natural pozzolan, pumice does not require advanced equipment to prepare for consumption and only needs to be powdered. Pumice has been the main focus of this research because of simple preparation. Also to validate the results, in addition to the control specimens of each design, fly ash as a known powder has been evaluated. Moreover, ternary mixes of pumice and silica fume were investigated to enhance the obtained results of binary mixes. It was concluded that pumice and slag powders indicated favorable performance in the high percentage of replacement.

  • A concrete embedded antenna design is proposed for probing the durability of a building at an industrial scientific medical band of 902~908 MHz. The proposed antenna is designed with a stacked slot patch structure for lower impedance variation to a dielectric constant of concrete, as a dielectric constant difference is derived from the moisture content. The proposed structure has a wider bandwidth when a parasitic patch structure is used, which reduces antenna performance degradation resulting from the moisture content of concrete. The measured voltage standing wave ratio of the proposed structure is less than 2 and the beam width is approximately $80^{\circ}$, whereas the gain is greater than 7 dBi. The proposed antenna is fabricated with a rectangle-type concrete block, which is simulated and measured for return loss and antenna gain.

  • The structural analysis for light weight on the brake pedal of the racing spec installed with the balance bars of the four models were performed in this study. By utilizing two materials of steels and aluminum alloys, four shapes were analyzed. It is generally assumed that the magnitude of force a person may incur when riding in a car is 1000 N. The fixed points are designated as the parts at which the bolts and pedals are fixed and the mounting part of the balance bar applied by the stress transmitted through the rod when the pressure of the master cylinder rises and the operation stops. Through this analysis study, it is thought that the vulnerability of each brake pedal model can be investigated and the transmission efficiency of the brake pedal can be increased by light weight. As the design data with the durability of brake pedal obtained on the basis of this study result are utilized, the esthetic sense can be shown by being grafted onto the part of car at real life.

  • In this study, the flow analysis around vehicle was carried out on various kinds of roof box models installed at the roof of vehicle. Through the analysis of fluid flow and pressure, we investigated which model was more suitable for driving. The four types of models were designed with their respective shapes of models 1, ${\beta}$, ${\delta}$ and ${\gamma}$, and the driving speed of car was set as 20 m/s. It was confirmed that the pressure for model ${\beta}$ became greatest compared to other models. And model ${\delta}$ has the lowest pressure among all models of roof boxes by installing a canoe with the structure for cable type. As the design data with the durability of roof box obtained on the basis of this study result are utilized, the esthetic sense can be shown by being grafted onto the car body at real life.

  • The lifetime of a gas turbine combustor is typically limited by the durability of its liner, the structure that encloses the high-temperature combustion products. The primary objective of the combustor thermal design process is to ensure that the liner temperatures do not exceed a maximum value set by material limits. Liner temperatures exceeding these limits hasten the onset of cracking which increase the frequency of unscheduled engine removals and cause the maintenance and repair costs of the engine to increase. Hot gas temperature prediction can be considered a preliminary step for combustor liner temperature prediction which can make a suitable view of combustion chamber conditions. In this study, the temperature distribution of ceramic panels for a V94.2 gas turbine combustor subjected to realistic operation conditions is presented using three-dimensional finite difference method. A simplified model of alumina ceramic is used to obtain the temperature distribution. The external thermal loads consist of convection and radiation heat transfers are considered that these loads are applied to flat segmented panel on hot side and forced convection cooling on the other side. First the temperatures of hot and cold sides of ceramic are calculated. Then, the thermal boundary conditions of all other ceramic sides are estimated by the field observations. Finally, the temperature distributions of ceramic panels for a V94.2 gas turbine combustor are computed by MATLAB software. The results show that the gas emissivity for diffusion mode is more than premix therefore the radiation heat flux and temperature will be more. The results of this work are validated by ANSYS and ABAQUS softwares. It is showed that there is a good agreement between all results.

  • The "Imwon Gyeongjeji(林園經濟志)", the largest encyclopedia of the Late Joseon Dynasty covers the details of the materials and construction methods related to everyday life's facilities. It is very useful to examine the "Imwon Gyeongjeji" for studying the materials and construction methods of the fences in traditional dwellings. Therefore, we tried to find the characteristics of the traditional fences exhibited in the "Imwon Gyeongjeji" by examining the construction methods shown in the book by structure of the fence. The results are as follow. First, the nine types of fence were listed in the "Imwon Gyeongjeji". Second, we could figure out the construction methods according to the structure of fences. The fence is divided into three parts: foundation, body, and roof. The body of the fence is a characteristic part distinguishing the types of fence. The foundation and the roof are related to the durability of the fence, regardless of the type of fence. The "Imwon Gyeongjeji" showed a robust manner in building fences than known today. Third, we found that the introductions and transformations of certain fence types. Fences such as Chuibyong(翠屛), Jeon Doldam(甎墻) and Bunjang were originated from China, yet has developed unique Korean styles in Joseon. It could also be seen that Kajo Zhang(哥窯墻) and Yonglong Zhang(玲瓏墻) were special fence types imported from China. It is not certain that the fences depicted in the "Imwon Gyeongjeji", represent the whole features of Joseon fences, but it is certainly an important literature to understand the structure and design of traditional fences of the Late Joseon Dynasty.
