This paper focuses on the power-level control of nuclear power plants (NPPs) in the presence of lumped disturbances. An adaptive second-order nonsingular terminal sliding mode control (ASONTSMC) scheme is proposed by resorting to the second-order nonsingular terminal sliding mode. The pre-existing mathematical model of the nuclear reactor system is firstly described based on point-reactor kinetics equations with six delayed neutron groups. Then, a second-order sliding mode control approach is proposed by integrating a proportional-derivative sliding mode (PDSM) manifold with a nonsingular terminal sliding mode (NTSM) manifold. An adaptive mechanism is designed to estimate the unknown upper bound of a lumped uncertain term that is composed of lumped disturbances and system states real-timely. The estimated values are then added to the controller, resulting in the control system capable of compensating the adverse effects of the lumped disturbances efficiently. Since the sign function is contained in the first time derivative of the real control law, the continuous input signal is obtained after integration so that the chattering effects of the conventional sliding mode control are suppressed. The robust stability of the overall control system is demonstrated through Lyapunov stability theory. Finally, the proposed control scheme is validated through simulations and comparisons with a proportional-integral-derivative (PID) controller, a super twisting sliding mode controller (STSMC), and a disturbance observer-based adaptive sliding mode controller (DO-ASMC).
This study presents the application of two indices for the locating of cracks in Reinforced Concrete (RC) structures, as well as the development of their modified forms to overcome limitations. The first index is based on mode shape curvature and the second index is based on the fourth derivative of the mode shape. In order to confirm the indices' effectiveness, both eigenvalues coupled with nonlinear static analyses were carried out and the eigenvectors for two different damage locations and intensities of load were obtained from the finite element model of RC beams. The values of the damage-locating indices derived using both indices were then compared. Generally, the mode shape curvature-based index suffered from insensitivity when attempting to detect the damage location; this also applied to the mode shape fourth derivative-based index at lower modes. However, at higher modes, the mode shape fourth derivative-based index gave an acceptable indication of the damage location. Both the indices showed inconsistencies and anomalies at the supports. This study proposed modification to both indices to overcome identified flaws. The results proved that modified forms exhibited better sensitivity for identifying the damage location. In addition, anomalies at the supports were eliminated.
A two-direction multiscaling function ${\phi}$ satisfies a recursion relation that uses scaled and translated versions of both itself and its reverse. This offers a more general and flexible setting than standard one-direction wavelet theory. In this paper, we investigate how to find and normalize point values and derivative values of two-direction multiscaling and multiwavelet functions. Determination of point values is based on the eigenvalue approach. Normalization is based on normalizing conditions for the continuous moments of ${\phi}$. Examples for illustrating the general theory are given.

The Bayesian approach is a suitable alternative in constructing appropriate models for observed record values because the number of these values is small. This paper provides an objective Bayesian analysis method for upper record values arising from the Rayleigh distribution. For the objective Bayesian analysis, the Fisher information matrix for unknown parameters is derived in terms of the second derivative of the log-likelihood function by using Leibniz's rule; subsequently, objective priors are provided, resulting in proper posterior distributions. We examine if these priors are the PMPs. In a simulation study, inference results under the provided priors are compared through Monte Carlo simulations. Through real data analysis, we reveal a limitation of the appropriate confidence interval based on the maximum likelihood estimator for the scale parameter and evaluate the models under the provided priors.
A direct boundary element method (DBEM) is developed for thin bodies whose surfaces are rigid or compliant. The Helmholtz integral equation and its normal derivative integral equation are adoped simultaneously to calculate the pressure on both sides of the thin body, instead of the jump values across it, to account for the different surface conditions of each side. Unlike the usual assumption, the normal velocity is assumed to be discontinuous across the thin body. In this approach, only the neutral surface of the thin body has to be discretized. The method is validated by comparison with analytic and/or numerical results for acoustic scattering and radiation from several surface conditions of the thin body; the surfaces are rigid when stationary or vibrating, and part of the interior surface is lined with a sound-absoring material.

The representative numerical algorithms to solve the time dependent Navier-Stokes equations are projection type methods. Lots of projection schemes have been developed to find more accurate solutions. But most of projection methods [4, 11] suffer from inconsistency and requesting unknown datum. E and Liu in [5] constructed the gauge method which splits the velocity $u=a+{\nabla}{\phi}$ to make consistent and to replace requesting of the unknown values to known datum of non-physical variables a and ${\phi}$. The errors are evaluated in [9]. But gauge method is not still obvious to find out suitable combination of discrete finite element spaces and to compute boundary derivative of the gauge variable ${\phi}$. In this paper, we define 4 gauge algorithms via combining both 2 decomposition operators and 2 boundary conditions. And we derive variational derivative on boundary and analyze numerical results of 4 gauge algorithms in various discrete spaces combinations to search right discrete space relation.
In this paper, we study the value distribution of the derivative of a Dirichlet L-function $L^{\prime}(s,{\chi})$ at the a-points ${\rho}_{a,{\chi}}={\beta}_{a,{\chi}}+i{\gamma}_{a,{\chi}}$ of $L^{\prime}(s,{\chi})$. We give an asymptotic formula for the sum $${\sum_{{\rho}_{a,{\chi}};0<{\gamma}_{a,{\chi}}{\leq}T}\;L^{\prime}({\rho}_{a,{\chi}},{\chi})X^{{\rho}_{a,{\chi}}}\;as\;T{\rightarrow}{\infty}$$, where X is a fixed positive number and ${\chi}$ is a primitive character mod q. This work continues the investigations of Fujii [4-6], $Garunk{\check{s}}tis$ & Steuding [8] and the authors [12].
Flutter derivatives provide the basis of predicting the critical wind speed in flutter and buffeting analysis of long-span cable-supported bridges. In this paper, one popular stochastic system identification technique, covariance-driven Stochastic Subspace Identification(SSI in short), is firstly presented for estimation of the flutter derivatives of bridge decks from their random responses in turbulent flow. Secondly, wind tunnel tests of a streamlined thin plate model and a ${\Pi}$ type blunt bridge section model are conducted in turbulent flow and the flutter derivatives are determined by SSI. The flutter derivatives of the thin plate model identified by SSI are very comparable to those identified by the unifying least-square method and Theodorson's theoretical values. As to the ${\Pi}$ type section model, the effect of turbulence on aerodynamic damping seems to be somewhat notable, therefore perhaps the wind tunnel tests for flutter derivative estimation of those models with similar blunt sections should be conducted in turbulent flow.
The carboxylated multiwall carbon nanotubes (MWCNT-COOH) and functionalized with isatin derivative (MWCNT-isatin) have been used as efficient adsorbents for the removal of lead (Pb) from aqueous solutions. The influence of variables including pH, concentration of the lead, amount of adsorbents and contact time was investigated by the batch method. The adsorption of the lead ions from aqueous solution by modified MWCNTs was studied kinetically using different kinetic models. The kinetic data were fitted with pseudo-first-order, pseudo-second-order, and intra-particle diffusion models. The sorption process with MWCNT-COOH and MWCNT-isatin was well described by pseudo-second-order and pseudo-first-order kinetics, respectively which it was agreed well with the experimental data. Also, it involved the particle-diffusion mechanism. The values of regression coefficient of various adsorption isotherm models like Langmuir, Freundlich and Tempkin to obtain the characteristic parameters of each model have been carried out. The Langmuir isotherm was found to best represent the measured sorption data for both adsorbent.
The characteristics of servo-multipliers and its accuracies are analyzed. From the analysis a low cost high accuracy four quadrant servo-multiplier with first derivative output feedback is built. The multiplier servomechanism has a second order system response with a damping ratio of 0.8 and computing bandwidth of 4 cycles per second, and its tracking accuracy at low speed of 0.5 volt per second is 0.9 per cent of maximum output voltage and static accuracy is better than 0.6 per cent. Method of testing this multiplier and the results are also described. The test on the characteristics of the multiplier shows that the results agree with theoretical values satisfactorily, and justifies the use of the servo-multiplier for slow type analog computers.
