Noninvasive monitoring of total Hemoglobin value is feasible with the use of spectroscopic measurements. As a step toward tile final goal of the development of a noninvasive monitor, the spectra$(400{\sim}800mm)$of EDTA whole blood were obtained along with reference total Hemoglobin values. Under the same condition water spectrum was generated. It was subtracted from each blood sample, and then tile first derivative of each subtracted data was taken by 'approximated first derivative algorithm' with gap (1,6,10,20nm). The correlation was obtained between total Hemoglobin and first valley wavelength of first derivative spectrum (sample number: 93).

일련의 국부영역으로부터 이차미분값을 획득하여 전체 형상을 복원하는 측정법을 제안하였다. 측정시 기울기가 제거된 국부형상에 대해 곡률과 이차미분이 동일시 되는 점을 이용하여, 3개의 이차미분값으로부터 직교하는 2방향을 따라 3차원형상을 복원할 수 있는 알고리즘을 구현하였다. 임의로 발생시킨 Zernike다항식의 계수로 자유곡면형상을 생성시키고, 구현된 알고리즘을 적용함으로써 검증과정을 수행하였다. 적용한 결과 최대 0.8 mm Sag를 갖는 직경 200 mm영역의 자유곡면형상에 대해 RMS 19 nm 형상복원오차를 갖고 복원됨을 확인하였다. 측정오차에 대한 복원오차 민감도를 진단하기 위해 SNR(Signal-to-Noise Ratio) 16의 가우시언 랜덤 노이즈를 부여한 후, 복원되는 형상의 오차를 진단한 결과, 197 nm의 형상복원오차가 발생함을 확인하였다.

Echinomycin-7 is an echinomycin derivative, Smethylated sulfonium perchlorate of echinomycin. We studied the in vitro cytotoxicity and in vivo antitumor activity of echinomycin-7 against P388 leukemia cells and compared the results with echinomycin. With respect to the cytotoxic effects, echinomycin-7 had cell line-dependent $IC_{50}$ values while echinomycin had similar values to several tumor cell lines. Also, in vivo antitumor activities were observed in tumor-bearing mice treated with both agents, which showed that echinomycin-7 had a broad therapeutic dose range. We also observed the apoptosis on leukemia cells treated with echinomycin-7 which exihibited the ladder pattern of DNA on electrophoresis. In addition to apoptosis, echinomycin-7 arrested $G_1/S$ phases of the cell cycle at the same time. We then examined the signaling pathway of echinomycin-7-induced apoptosis and showed that ERK of the MAP kinase family was activated and translocated into the nucleus by echinomycin-7 stimulation. This study suggests that echinomycin-7 acts as an antitumor agent through in vitro cytotoxicity and has in vivo antitumor activity against leukemia cells, and that the echinomycin-7- induced apoptosis might involve signal transduction via MAP kinases.

This study was conducted to measure changes in polyphenol components and antioxidant effects of Cirsium Lineare (Thunb.) after fermentation by lactic acid bacteria. First, Cirsium Lineare (Thunb.) extract (CE, unfermented) and Cirsium Lineare (Thunb.) extract fermented with Lactobacillus paracasei (FCE) were prepared. Changes in components resulting from fermentation were confirmed through changes in polyphenol compound content and silymarin derivative pattern, and antioxidant activity was confirmed using 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) radical scavenging activity, 2,2'azino-bis(3-ethylbenzthiazoline-6-sulfonic acid) (ABTS) radical scavenging activity, and ferric reducing antioxidant power (FRAP) analyses. As a result, polyphenol contents of CE and FCE were confirmed as 21.94 ± 1.15 and 67.90 ± 4.48 mg GAE/g, respectively. Both values were increased approximately three times by fermentation, and there was also a change in the silymarin derivative pattern. In the case of DPPH radical RC₅₀ values in particular, CE and FCE were confirmed to inhibit DPPH radicals by 50% at concentrations of 129.44 ± 5.85 and 50.00 ± 3.47 ㎍/mL, respectively, with the FCE value approximately 2.5 times lower than that of CE. In addition, ABTS radical scavenging and FRAP activity were confirmed to share similar trends as DPPH radical scavenging activity. When CE and FCE were compared, FCE showed a better antioxidant effect overall. In conclusion, this study suggested that FCE prepared through lactic acid bacteria fermentation may be utilized as a powerful antioxidant material.

Retrogradation of starch is one of important quality indexes for food based on starch such as rice. Therefore, in this research, possibility of near infrared spectroscopy to determine the degree of the retrogradation was examined. The degree of the retrogradation was indicated as the degree of geratinization analyzed by BAP(-amylase-pullulanase) method. 20 samples which have a wide range of the degree of the retrogradation were prepared and the NIR spectra of the samples were measured in reflectance mode with the NIR Systems 6500. In the correlation plots calculated from the 2nd derivative values of the MSC treated spectra and the degree of the geratinization, the major negative peaks of 1544 nm and 2258 nm, and the major positive peaks of 1460 nm, 1602 nm, 1766 nm and 2136 nm could be observed, indicating that NIR absorption at the positive peak wavelengths became strong while the absorption at the negative peak wavelengths became weak as the degree of the retrogradation increased. Because there is negative correlation between the degree of the retrogradation and the degree of the geratinization. As a result of MLR using the 2nd derivative values of the MSC treated spectra and the degree of the geratinization, good calibration equation which include 2258 nm as the first wavelength and 1764 nm as the second one could be obtained, indicating that NIR spectroscopy has a possibility to detect the retrogradation of starch. In order to find the assignment of the bands observed in the correlation plots, further study may be needed.

The crude extract of the mycelium of Cladosporium was found to exhibit antimicrobial activity against the Staphylococcus aureus, methicillin-resistant S. aureus, and multidrug-resistant S. aureus. Bioassayguided fractionation of an organic extract led to the isolation of an acetophenone derivative, clavatol (2',4'-dihydroxy-3',5'-dimethylacetophenone) (1), and a benzodiazepine alkaloid, circumdatin A (2). Compound 1 showed moderate antibacterial activity against S. aureus, methicillin-resistant S. aureus, and multidrug-resistant S. aureus with minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) values of 62.5, 62.5, 31.0 $\mu$g/mL, respectively, but compound 2 was inactive. Compounds 1 and 2 exhibited UV-A protection activity with ED$_{50}$ values of 227.0 and 82.0 $\mu$M, respectively, indicating that they were more potent than the positive control, oxybenzone (ED$_{50}$ 350 $\mu$M), a common sunscreen agent.

The structures and complexation energies of penta-O-alkylated 1b and penta-O-tert-butyl ester 1e of p-tert-butylcalix[5]arene and their simplified structures (2b and 2e) toward a series of alkyl ammonium guests have been calculated by a semi-empirical AM1 method. For AM1 calculations, complexation efficiencies of the simplified host 2e are very similar to the values of host 1e. The complexes of simplified host 2e with alkyl ammonium ions also have been optimized by ab initio HF/6-31G method. The calculated complexation efficiencies for 2e by ab initio method have been found to be bigger in magnitude than the values obtained by AM1 calculations for linear alkyl ammonium guests. Calculation results show that all of the calix[5]aryl derivatives investigated in this study have much better complexation ability toward ammonium cation without alkyl group compared with other alkyl ammonium guests. Ab initio calculations also well duplicate the molecular discriminating behaviors of calix[5]arene derivative 2e between butyl ammonium ions: $n-BuNH_3^+\;>\;iso-BuNH_3^+\;>\;sec-BuNH_3^+\;>\;tert-BuNH_3^+$.

A two-direction multiscaling function ${\phi}$ satisfies a recursion relation that uses scaled and translated versions of both itself and its reverse. This offers a more general and flexible setting than standard one-direction wavelet theory. In this paper, we investigate how to find and normalize point values and derivative values of two-direction multiscaling and multiwavelet functions. Determination of point values is based on the eigenvalue approach. Normalization is based on normalizing conditions for the continuous moments of ${\phi}$. Examples for illustrating the general theory are given.

The Bayesian approach is a suitable alternative in constructing appropriate models for observed record values because the number of these values is small. This paper provides an objective Bayesian analysis method for upper record values arising from the Rayleigh distribution. For the objective Bayesian analysis, the Fisher information matrix for unknown parameters is derived in terms of the second derivative of the log-likelihood function by using Leibniz's rule; subsequently, objective priors are provided, resulting in proper posterior distributions. We examine if these priors are the PMPs. In a simulation study, inference results under the provided priors are compared through Monte Carlo simulations. Through real data analysis, we reveal a limitation of the appropriate confidence interval based on the maximum likelihood estimator for the scale parameter and evaluate the models under the provided priors.
