This study aims to identify benthic macroinvertebrate fauna inhabiting at the mountain valley stream (Mt. Cheonggye) in Korea and the relationship between physical environmental factors and biological indices. Benthic macroinvertebrates were collected at five locations on August 24 and October 14, 2020, and were identified as 4 phyla, 7 classes, 16 orders, 42 families, and 72 species. Dominance ranged from 0.38 to 0.59, diversity 2.81 to 3.75, richness 3.25 to 4.63, evenness 0.65 to 0.84, and %EPT (Ephemeroptera-PlecopteraTrichoptera) richness value 42% to 73%, respectively. All sites were evaluated as a very good status by mostly biological indices based on tolerance of indicator organisms in Korea. As a result of principal component analysis, biological indices are classified into species-level indices and higher cartegory-level indices according to the taxonomic level of the indicator organism considered in each index. As a result of canonical correspondence analysis, it was confirmed that current velocity was a major factor that increased species richness and classified biological indices according to taxonomic category level. Water depth was a major factor related to the community indices, and the deeper the water depth, the lower the diversity and the evenness.
Understanding of the hydraulics of flow is very important to support the management of river. The cross-sectional area, average velocity, flow depth and discharge can be regarded as a power function each other. In this paper the flow of Bocheong stream basin is experimentally studied. The correlation analysis was performed between observed hydraulic factors by the power type function. The constants resulted from the correlation analysis were calculated by the geomorphologic characteristics of the watershed using the power type function. The correlation coefficients between the hydraulic factors were appeared close to unit having strong correlationship. The two conditions of equality of the continuity equation were analysed, and the conditions were found to be good results. From these results the observed hydraulic data of Bocheong stream basin can be concluded as a reliable data. The correlation coefficients between the parameters of the hydraulic characteristics and geomorphologic factors were found to be close to unit.
This st at the development of the adequate sediment yield formulas in Wi-Stream basin ; IHP representative basin in Korea. As a result of applying outstanding sediment yield formulas among the existing formulas, it is analyzed that including the Engelund & Hansen formula, Yang formula is proper to the Wi-Stream basin. And as a result of sensitivity analysis to the sediment parameters it is analyzed that Rijn and Actors & White formula is more sensible than any other formulas which has been applied the velocity and depth among the parameters. Also, Engelund & Hansen and Yang formula is less sensible than any other formulas. In Wi-Stream basin, it is analyzed that Yang and Engelund & Hansen formula is the most suitable sediment yield formula in this study. But because the existing formulas had been developed in foreign countries and applied the foreign natural livers and reservoirs, it makes careful use of Korean alluvial river and hoped that it will be developed the most adequate formula in Wi-Stream basin.
This study was performed to investigate the riverbed structure and the pollution type in Nakdong River, Western Nakdong River. and Suyoung Stream. Sediment and water samples were collected at is in Nakdong River. in Western Nakdong River, and 8 states In Suyoung Stream from February 20, 1997 to June 15, 1997. The depth distributions of sampling sites in the three streams were measured and heavy metals(Cd, Pb, Cr, Cu) and pesticides in sediments and COD, BOD, and total nitrogen(T-N) in water samples were analysed. The deepest and the shallowest sites were strate 11(11.58m) and 9(3.35m) in Nakdong River, site 7(6.25m) and 4(2.06m) in Western Nakdong River, and site 8(2.89m) and 1(0. 61m) in Suyoung Stream , respectively. The mean concentration of Cd(45.79ppm) was higher In the sediment of Western Nakdong River than In other two streams and those of Pb(76.25ppm), Cr(48.13ppm), and Cu(77.50ppm) were higher in file sediment of Suyoung Stream than in other two streams. Pesticides(1 kind of organophosphorus and 3 kinds of organochlorine pesticide) were detected only in the sediment of Western Nakdong River. The mean concentrations of COD(20.26ppm), BOD(25.36ppm), and T-N(18.05ppm) were higher in the water sample of Suyoung Stream than In other two streams.
This study investigates the relation between the location of a habitat and the ecological connections according to the habitat type in the riparian zone at the Bokha stream. Stream habitat is classified into nine types for the aquatic insects and fish. For vegetation and birds, habitat is classified into five types of medium-scale streams, including both physical and chemical streams are analyzed accordingly. The major results of this study are as follows: 1) A pool connected to the main stream has a certain water depth (about 80 cm) and is disturbed at least 5 to 6 times a year. Although the pool has a somewhat bad water quality, it provides a habitat for various types of young fish. 2) A meander riffle is about 15 cm deep, the flow velocity in the region is about 75 cm/s. This region does not have large structures to which aquatic insects can attach, so it cannot be used as a spawning ground. 3) A rock type pool is about 60 cm deep, the flow velocity in the meander riffle is about 25 cm/s. In this region, many aquatic insects attached to large structures appear. Due to various riparian vegetation, the rock type pool is used as a habitat for aquatic insects. 4) A pool which is only connected to the main stream during floods has a bad water quality. Despite of its relatively small size, it has a high population density of aquatic insects. faculty.
In Korea, total sediment discharge of a river has been estimated simply by using certain sediment transport formulas including, among others, Einstein's formula. Those formular, however, are known not to be reliable enough for the result calculated by them to be used directly to river planning and management. Therefore, the study used the Modified Einstein Procedure to the estimation of total sediment discharge, because this method is reliable estimated by measurement. Here, measurement of sediment discharge used depth integrating method. The major results obtained from the study for estimation by depth integrating method of sediment discharge in Naeseong stream are as follow; 1 The sedeiment characteristics of Naeseong stream are; The distribution of sediment grain size shows that silt and clay are 55% and sand is 45%. and the bed load sediment grain size is constituted that sand contained with the grain size from O.062mm to 2.0mm is 80% 2. The sediment rating formulas derived from the regression analysis between the sediment discharge and flow discharge are; Seogpo-Gyo : Qs=$0.017 \times 10^{-4} Q^{2.352}$, where discharge is l0cms $0.074 \times 10^{-4} Q^{2.066}$, where discharge is l0cms
The purpose of this study is to estimate the critical flood discharge and flash flood trigger rainfall for alarm system providing for a flash flood in mountainous area. The flash flood need non-linear approaching method, because rainfall-runoff is nonlinear and it is difficult to explain the existing linear rainfall-runoff. Hydrological characteristics would be utilized to apply such as hydrologic modelling or basin management. This study was effectively estimated a topographic characteristic factor of basin using the GIS. Especially, decided stream order using GIS at stream order decision that is important for input variable of GCIUH. A flash floods defined as a flood which follows shortly after a heavy or excessive rainfall event, with a few hours. In this study, we gave a definition that a critical flood for alarm is the flood when valley depth judging dangerous depth is over 0.5m depth from the bottom of channel. Result that calculate threshold discharge to use GCIUH, at the Mureung valley basin, flash flood trigger rainfall was 16.34mm in the first 20minutes when the threshold discharge was $14.54m^3/sec$.

This study examines the potential restoration of abandoned channels of the Mangyeong River in South Korea. To analyze the morphological changes and equilibrium conditions, a flow duration analysis was performed to obtain the discharge of 255 m3/s with a recurrence interval of 1.5 year. It is a gravel-bed stream with a median bed diameter of 36 mm. The reach-averaged results using HEC-RAS showed that the top width is 244 m, the mean flow depth is 1.11 m, the width/depth ratio is very high at 277, the channel velocity is 1.18 m/s, and the Froude number is also high at 0.42. The hydraulic parameters vary in the vicinity of the three sills which control the bed elevation. The total sediment load is 6,500 tons per day and the equivalent sediment concentration is 240 mg/l. The Engelund-Hansen method was closer to the field measurements than any other method. The bed material coarser than 33 mm will not move. The methods of Julien-Wargadalam and Lacey gave an equilibrium channel width of 83 m and 77 m respectively, which demonstrates that the Mangyeong River is currently very wide and shallow. The planform geometry for the Mangyeong River is definitely straight with a sinuosity as low as 1.03. The thalweg and mean bed elevation profiles were analyzed using field measurements in 1976, 1993 and 2009. The measured profiles indicated that the channel has degraded about 2 m since 1976. The coarse gravel material and large width-depth ratio increase the stability of the bed material in this reach.
To investigate the restoration procedure on soil physical properties at the surface of visiting road affected by rest-year system. This study was carried out at visiting roads of stream of Chilsun in Jirisan. Mean soil strength in 20cm of soil depth was lower in the Rest-Year System areas (1.5-1.9 times in Site 2, 1.1-7.5 times in Site 3) than in the control (Site 1). Soil strength was recovered by the Rest-Year System in the national park. Mesopore rate (pF 2.7) in 0-15 cm of soil depth was higher in the Rest-Year System areas (1.2 times) than in the control. This indicates that mesopore rate is rapidly restoring in the Rest-Year System areas. Pore space rate in 0-7.5 cm of soil depth was higher in the Rest-Year System areas (23.2% in Site 2, 23.6% in Site 3) than in the control (22.4% in Site 1). Pore space rate in 7.5-15 cm of soil depth was also higher in the Rest-Year System areas (22.9% in Site 2 and Site 3) than in the control (18.9% in Site 1). Soil pore space was remediable by the Rest-Year System. Bulk density in 0-7.5 cm of soil depth was lower in the Rest-Year System areas (1.674g/$cm^3$ in Site 2, 1.668g/$cm^3$ in Site 3) than in the control (1.723g/$cm^3$ in Site 1). Bulk density in 7.5-15 cm of soil depth was lower in the Rest-Year System areas (1.785g/$cm^3$ in Site 2 and 1.721g/$cm^3$ in Site 3) than in the control (1.721g/$cm^3$ in Site 1). Soil bulk density was decreased in the Rest-Year System areas of the national park. Amount of soil erosion was lower in the Rest-Year System areas ($0.017m^3$/km/yr in site 2, $0.023m^3$/km/yr in site 3) than in the control ($0.054m^3$/km/yr in site 1).
