  • Bridge dynamic behaviors and the failure of the foundation are examined in this study under seismic excitations including the local scour effect. The simplified mechanical model, which can consider the effect of various influence elements, is proposed to simulate the bridge motions. The scour depths around the foundations are estimated by the CSU equation recommended by the HEC-18 and the local scour effect upon global bridge motions is then considered by applying various foundation stiffness based upon the reduced embedded depths. From the simulation results, it is found that seismic responses of a bridge with the same scour depth for both foundations increase due to the local scour effect. The bridge scour is found to be significant under weak and moderate seismic intensity. The recovery durations of the foundation stiffness after local scour are found to be critical in the estimation of the probability of foundation failure under earthquakes. Therefore, the safety of the whole bridge system should be conducted with the consideration of the scour effect upon the foundations and the recovery duration of stiffness should be determined rationally.

  • Recently, compressive sensing based data loss recovery techniques have become popular for Structural Health Monitoring (SHM) applications. These techniques involve an encoding process which is onerous to sensor node because of random sensing matrices used in compressive sensing. In this paper, we are presenting a model where the sampled raw acceleration data is directly transmitted to base station/receiver without performing any type of encoding at transmitter. The received incomplete acceleration data after data losses can be reconstructed faithfully using compressive sensing based reconstruction techniques. An in-depth simulated analysis is presented on how random losses and continuous losses affects the reconstruction of acceleration signals (obtained from a real bridge). Along with performance analysis for different simulated data losses (from 10 to 50%), advantages of performing interleaving before transmission are also presented.

  • Based on the formation characteristics, wellbore parameters and insulated tubing (IT) parameters of the Shengli oilfield, Shandong, China, a geomechanical model is built to predict the temperature distributions of the wellbore and formation. The effects of the IT heat conductivity coefficient (HCC), well depth and IT joint on the temperature distribution of the IT, completion casing, cement sheath, and formation are investigated. Results show the temperature of the formation around the wellbore has an exponentially decreasing relation with the distance to the wellbore. The temperature of the formation around the wellbore has an inverse relation with the IT HCC when the temperatures of the steam and the formation are given. The temperature of the casing outer wall is mainly determined by the steam temperature and IT HCC rather than by the initial formation temperature. The temperature of the casing at the IT joint is much larger than that of the other location. Due to the IT joint having a small size, the effects of the IT joint on the casing temperature distribution are limited to a small area only.

  • The aim of the research is assessing the possibility of recovering the compressive strength of the mortar mixture replaced excessively high volume of blast furnace slag accidently. As a result of the experiment, in the case of compressive strength, painting sodium oxide showed higher compressive strength recovery effect than painting calcium oxide. As a curing temperature, 20℃ showed advanced result rather than 65℃. From the wet curing, the reaction was confirmed, deeper penetration depth was checked at 20℃ than 60℃ temperature. Therefore for the concrete mixture with excessively high volume of blast furnace slag, it is considered that painting sodium hydroxide and curing 20℃ can recover the compressive strength effectively.

  • The purpose of the research is assessing the possibility of strength recovery for mortar added with accidently high amount of fly ash. For compressive strength at 28 day, the sample painted with sodium hydroxide showed higher compressive strength than the sample painted with calcium hydroxide. Regarding the curing conditions, the curing temperature 65℃ provided better conditions than the curing temperature 20℃ in aspect of solution penetration depth and reactivity of fly ash. In the case of drying after saturation, the case painted with sodium hydroxid 65℃ showed the clearest engrossing mark.

  • Ultraprecision machining technology has been playing a rapidly increasing and important role in manufacturing. However, the physics of the micromachining process at very small depth of cut, which is typically 1 .mu. m or less is not well understool. Shear along the shear plane and friction at the rake face dominate in conventional machining range. But sliding along the flank face of the tool due to the elastic recovery of the workpiece material and the effects of plowing due to the large effective negative rake angle resultant from the tool edge radius may become important in micromachining range. This paper suggests an orthogonal cutting model considering the cutting edge radius and then quantifies the effect of plowing due to the large effective negative rake angle.

  • In this paper, we propose a reconstruction technique of the lost hair region for 3D human actor modeling. An active depth sensor system can simultaneously capture both color and geometry information of any objects in real-time. However, it cannot acquire some regions whose surfaces are shiny and dark. Therefore, to get a natural 3D human model, the lost region in depth image should be recovered, especially human hair region. The recovery is performed using both color and depth images. We find out the hair region using color image first. After the boundary of hair region is estimated, the inside of hair region is estimated using an interpolation technique and closing operation. A 3D mesh model is generated after performing a series of operations including adaptive sampling, triangulation, mesh smoothing, and texture mapping. The proposed method can generate recovered 3D mesh stream automatically. The final 3D human model allows the user view interaction or haptic interaction in realistic broadcasting system.

  • Images are 2-dimensional projection of 3-dimensional scenes and many problems of scene analysis arise due to inherent depth ambiguities in a monocular 2-D image. Therefore, depth recovery is a crucial problem in image understanding. This paper proposes modified algorithm which is focused on accurate correspondnce in stereo vision. The feature we use is zero-crossing points and the similarity measure with two property evaluation function is used to estimate initial probability. And we introduce relaxation technique for accurate and global correspondence.

  • In this study, the stress and experience of overcoming stress by on-site missionaries who rescue North Korean defectors was investigated in depth through a phenomenological approach. To this end, 7 missionaries with more than 5 years of experience in North Korean missionary mission were selected, and in-depth interviews and written interviews were conducted once. The collected data were analyzed through the phenomenological research methods of Giorgi and Colaizzi. The results were categorized into 'calling and obedience', 'mission and stress', 'anxiety situation and stress', 'stress situation and frustration', 'stress experience and psychological change', 'self insight and overcoming stress', 'resolution and recovery of stress', and 'new determination and rededication'. By researching and analyzing the stress and stress experience of the missionaries who rescue North Korean defectors in the field, this study has significance for helping missionaries continue to help them through managing and overcoming their stress.
