  • The base-induced elimination of N-protected 2-(bromomethyl)pyrrolidines 12a-c with KHMDS in THF at -78$^{\circ}C$ for 1h gave exocyclic enamines 13a-c. The acidic catalyzed pr otonation on ${\beta}$-carbon atom of 2-(methylene)pyrrolidines 13a-c with $H_3PO_4$ formed endocyclic N-iminium intermediates 14(or 15). Nucleophilic attack of alpha-carbon atom and hydrolysis of N-iminium ion gave carbocationic adduct (aminoalcohol) 16 from which 5-amino-2-pentanones 17a-c were formed after deprotonation.

  • Effect of protonation and deprotonation of ionization compounds is an important application in Comparative molecular field analysis (CoMFA). There are enough information's were reported about different CoMFA applications such as Series design and selection of training set, Geometries and optimizations of molecules, Effect of partial atomic charges, bioactive conformations and alignment, Interaction energy fields, Effects of different grid spacing etc. However limited information's are available about the ionization of compounds. This study aimed at the critical review of about the effects of protonation of ionizable molecules and its impact on the predictability of CoMFA models. We also discussed about previous implications and the things needed to be considered to come for a final conclusion about its impact on CoMFA predictability.

  • Cu-BTC[$Cu_3(BTC)_2(H_2O)_3$, BTC = 1,3,5-benzenetricarboxylate], one of the most well-known metal-organic framework materials (MOF), has been synthesized under atmospheric pressure and room temperature by using ultrasound. The Cu-BTC can be obtained in 1 min in the presence of DMF (N,N-dimethylformamide), suggesting the possibility of continuous production of Cu-BTC. Moreover, the surface area and pore volume show that the concentration of DMF is important for the synthesis of Cu-BTC having high porosity. The morphology and phase also depend on the concentration of DMF : Cu-BTC cannot be obtained at room temperature in the absence of DMF and aggregated Cu-BTC (with low surface area) is produced in the presence of high concentration of DMF. It seems that the deprotonation of benzenetricarboxylic acid by base (such as DMF) is inevitable for the room temperature syntheses.

  • The aminolyses of diphenyl phosphinic chloride (1) with substituted anilines in acetonitrile at 55.0 oC are investigated kinetically. Large Hammett ρ X (ρnuc = ?4.78) and Bronsted β X (βnuc = 1.69) values suggest extensive bond formation in the transition state. The primary normal kinetic isotope effects (kH/kD = 1.42-1.82) involving deuterated aniline (XC6H4ND2) nucleophiles indicate that hydrogen bonding results in partial deprotonation of the aniline nucleophile in the rate-limiting step. The faster rate of diphenyl phosphinic chloride (1) than diphenyl chlorophosphate (2) is rationalized by the large proportion of a frontside attack in the reaction of 1. These results are consistent with a concerted mechanism involving a partial frontside nucleophilic attack through a hydrogen-bonded, four-center type transition state.

  • Ab initio molecular orbital calculations have been performed in an effort to determine which types of chemical interactions play essential roles for the system, , $H_2O+CH_2SH^+$, and $H_2O+ CH_2S$. The most important contribution to the interaction energy in controlling reaction path is the exchange repulsion energy, EX, which is largely responsible for the shape of the total interaction energy curve. In the ion-molecule reaction, prior protonation of thioformaldehyde or prior deprotonation of water leads to formation of the corresponding ionic adducts ($H_2O+CH_2SH$ and $HOCH_2S^-$), with no barrier to reaction, simulating specific acid and base catalysis, respectively, as in the case of formaldehyde. Otherwise, approach of water to thioformaldehyde gives rise to a completely repulsive interaction.

  • The macrocyclic nickel complex of the molecular formula[Ni($C_{32}H_{26}N_4$)] has been synthesized from the template condensation reaction between 1-benzoylacetone and o-phenylenediamine in the presence of nickel acetate. Protonation and deuterium exchange reactions of the demetallated macrocyclic ligand and the nickel complex have been carried out. The infrared, electronic and proton magnetic resonance spectral data of both compounds are compared and discussed; protonation of the macrocyclic ligand take place at the nitrogen atoms and all the amine protons undergo very rapid deuterium exchange while the methine protons undergo very slow exchange. On the other hand, protonation of the nickel complex occurs at the nitrogen atoms and only amine protons undergo rapid deuterium exchange. Protonation and deprotonation of the nickel complexes proceed reversibly.

  • Reactions of thianthrene cation radical perchlorate (1) with N-(p-methoxyphenyl)benzenesulphonamide (14) in acetonitrile at room temperature afforded various products : thianthrene (3), N-(p-hydroxyphenyl)benzenesulphonamide (16), benzenesulphonamide (18), hydroquinone (20); 5-(5-benzenesulphonamido-2-methoxyphenyl)-thia nthrenium perchlorate(21), 2-benzenesulphonamido-2'-hydroxy-5,5'-dimethoxy biphenyl(24), 2-benzenesulphonamido-2',5'-dihydroxy-5-methoxy -biphenyl(25), and a traceable amount of p-quinone(23). The formations of part of (3) and (21) can be explained by either disproportionation or half-regeneration mechanism but those of the remainders by diverse reactions of sulphonamidyl radical (27) derived from (14) (through single electron transfer, followed by deprotonation processes). Similar results were observed from the reaction with N-(p-methoxyphenyl)methanesulphonamide (15).

  • The aminolysis reactions of phenylacetyl chlorides with anilines and N,N-dimethylanilines (DMAS) in acetonitrile at -15.0 ℃ are investigated. The magnitude of ρx (= -2.8 ∼ -2.9) and ρy (= 0.9 ∼ 1.3, after correcting for the fall-off), and the negative sign of ρxy (= -0.12) for the reactions with anilines suggest an associative SN2 mechanism. For the reactions with DMAs, the magnitude of these Hammett coefficients increases so that tighter bond making in the transition state (TS) is predicted. A nonlinear Hammett plots obtained for the DMAs with an electron acceptor substituent is interpreted to result from a more advanced degree of leaving group departure to assist closer approach of the bulky DMA in the TS. The normal secondary kinetic isotope effects $(k_H/k_D>1.0)$ involving deuterated anilines suggest partial deprotonation by hydrogen bonding to the departing chloride ion.

  • The complex formation from Cu(Ⅱ) ion and 1,3-bis(tris(hydroxymethyl)methylamino)propane (bistrispropane) in aqueous solution has been studied potentiometrically and spectrophotometrically. Bistrispropane (btp) coordinates to Cu(Ⅱ) as multidentate. In the btp (L) complex CuL2+, two of the hydroxyl oxygen atoms as well as the amine nitrogens of the ligand are coordinated. In neutral and weakly acidic media, one of the coordinated hydroxyl groups is deprotonated. In basic media, an additional hydroxyl group undergoes deprotonation. The equilibrium constants for the formation of CuL2+, CuLH-1+, and CuLH-2 have been determined. The nature of the coordinate bonds has been deduced from the potentiometric data and the spectra of these complexes.

  • Aqueous 6-hydroxyquinoline in the first excited singlet state undergoes protonation to the imine group first in 15 ps, then in the time scale of 40 ps deprotonation from the enol group and finally, however, quickly as in 11 ps electron rearrangement to change into a resonance hybrid structure of quinoid-prevailing forms. Despite the fact that the decay time constant is smaller than the formation time constant, fluorescence from excited protropic zwitterion is observed to assign its maximum at 510 nm. The electron rearrangement is basically an intramolecular charge transfer from the deprotonated oxygen atom to the positively charged iminium ring without any notable change in nuclear geometry, producing a zwitterionic quinoid structure with much a smaller electric dipole moment than the zwitterionic protropic species. This photoproduct formed by consecutive excited state proton and electron transfers shows a smaller dipole moment in S1 than in S0 and a hypsochromic shift although its S1 state has (π, π*) character.
