Possibility of Obtaining Lubricant Base Oil from Talakan Crude Oil Suitable for Exploitation in Extremely Cold Conditions in the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia)

  • This paper addresses the problems of using anti-freeze lubricants for different machines that must function at extremely low temperatures during winter operation in the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia). We discuss the possibility of obtaining anti-freeze base oils from Talakan crude oil, an area with major oil and gas deposits of the Republic of Sakha, and also provide the trade and technological classification of Talakan crude oil. We propose two different schemes for processing Talakan crude oil: the fuel scheme (obtaining light and heavy fractions as a fuel oil) and the base oil scheme (obtaining light fractions and base oils). We investigate the influence of pour point depressants on alkyl-methacrylate base on the low-temperature properties of the fractions obtained from Talakan crude oil and Korean base oils, and establish the optimal concentration of pour point depressants. We compare the properties of these fractions with the low-temperature properties of Korean base oils and find that the commercial oil "Ravenol 0W-40" provides optimistic results. We obtain oil with a pour point of minus $50^{\circ}C$ and a viscosity index greater than 100. The Design of Experiment was used to establish the optimum composition of the pour point depressants and the base oil S-8 to obtain lubricant oil with a kinematic viscosity of 17 cSt, viscosity index of 208, and a pour point of minus $64^{\circ}C$.

Renewable Low-viscosity Dielectrics Based on Vegetable Oil Methyl Esters

  • Vegetable oil dielectrics have been used in transformers as green alternatives to mineral insulating oils for about twenty years, because of their advantages of non-toxic, biodegradability, and renewability. However, the viscosity of vegetable oils is more than 3 times of mineral oils, which means a poor heat dissipation capacity. To get low-viscosity dielectrics, transesterification and purification were performed to prepare vegetable oil methyl esters in this study. Electrical and physical properties were determined to investigate their potential as dielectrics. The results showed that the methyl ester products had good dielectric strengths, high water saturation and enough fire resistance. The viscosities (at $40^{\circ}C$) were 0.2 times less than FR3 fluid, and 0.7 times less than mineral oil, which indicated superior cooling capacity as we expected. With the assistance of 0.5 wt% pour point depressants, canola oil methyl ester exhibited the lowest pour point ($-26^{\circ}C$) among the products which was lower than FR3 fluid ($-21^{\circ}C$) and 25# mineral oil ($-23^{\circ}C$). Thus, canola oil methyl ester was the best candidate as a low-viscosity vegetable oil-based dielectric. The low-viscosity fluid could extend the service life of transformers by its better cooling capacity compared with nature ester dielectrics.

  • Thirteen compounds were synthesized by condensing the N-heterocyclic amines (piperidine, pyrrolidine, morpholine) and secondary aliphatic amines (dimethylamine, diethylamine) with 3,4-methylenedioxyphenylalkenoic acid chlorides for developing CNS depressants. Among them, N, N-diethyl-3,4-methylenedioxycinnamamide (IX) and N, N-dimethyl-5-(3,4-methylenedioxyphenyl)-2, 4-pentadienoic acid amicle (XII) exhibited strong activity in antagonism against pentylenetetrazole-induced convulsion, strychnine-induced convulsion and maximal electroshock seizure. N, N-Dimethyl-3, 4-methylenedioxycinnamide (VIII) showed more potent activity in antagonism against strychnine-induced convulsion and maximal electroshock seizure and in the prolongation of hexobarbital sleeping time.

  • In order to search more active and less toxic central nervous depressants, piperic acid amides were synthesized by condensation of piperonal with crotonic acid amides. The bioassay results revealed that, among the compounds synthesized, the piperonic acid methylamide and ethylamide exhibited potent protective activity against strychnine-induced convulsion.

  • Twelve new N-piperoyl amino acids were synthesized by acylation of amino acids with piperoylchloride in order to develop the new central nervous depressants. Silylation of the carboxylic group of amino acids not only precluded side reactions but-also facilitated acylation at room temperature without catalysts. The acute toxicity of all the synthesized compounds were lower than that of piperine itself, whereas they showed strong protective effect against the strychnine-induced mortality.

신경병증성 통증 치료시 Gabapentin 투여에 따른 제통 효과와 체열상의 변화 -증례 보고- (Thermographic Changes by Administering Gabapentin in Neuropathic Pain -A report of three cases-)

  • Neuropathic pain originating from multiple condition of nerve cell injury is common, but is difficult to treat. Even though many drugs such as anti-convulsants, anti-depressants, NSAIDs, opioids have been used, their clinical analgesic action were not satisfactory due to occur severe side effects. Gabapentin was introduced in 1994 as a novel antiepileptic drug and has been used to treat partial seizure. After 1995 gabapentin treatment for reflex sympathetic dystrophy (RSD) started, 45% of the reports about the analgesic efficacy of gabapentin were restricted to the treatments of non-epileptic pain syndrome. This drug is preferred to treat neuropathic pain because of a lower incidence of its side effects than those of other anti-convulsants and anti-depressants. For evaluating it's analgesic efficacy, the changes in the patients' subjective pain intensity was measured by the score on the visual analogue scale (VAS) and patient's objective pain intensity by measuring the skin temperature via infrared thermography were investigated respectively. Side effects of gabapentin were look into. We observed successful relief of neuropathic pain in the three patients which included post-herpetic neuraligia, complex regional pain syndrome (CRPS) and diabetic neuropathic pain, and the side effects of gabapentin were at acceptable levels.

저품위 리튬운모광의 활용을 위한 부유선별 시스템 개발 (Development of Flotation System for Utilization of Low Grade Lithium Ore)

  • 본 연구에서는 경북 울진 보암광산의 리튬광을 대상으로 고품위 리튬 정광 생산을 위한 부유선별 연구를 수행하였다. 리튬의 근원광물은 Lepidolite (0.99% $Li_2O$)이며, 주요 맥석광물은 $SiO_X$를 포함하는 규산염 광물(quartz, muscovite)과 방해석(Calcite)이 존재하였다. 따라서 음이온포수제를 이용하여 방해석을 먼저 부유시켜 제거하고, 규산염 광물을 억제하고 리튬 광물을 부유시키는 공정을 적용하였다. 리튬광물 부유선별에서 포수제는 아민계통의 양이온 포수제(Armac-T, Armac-C, Armafloat-18, Armafloat-1597) 중 Armac-T가 가장 효과적이었다. 실험결과 최적 조건인 포수제(Armac-T) 100g/t, 기포제(AF65) 50g/t, 억제제($Na_2SiO_3$) 600g/t, (Lactic acid) 100g/t, 광액농도 20%solids, pH 5.5 그리고 정선횟수 2회에서 $Li_2O$의 품위와 회수율이 각각 4.33%와 80.3%인 결과를 얻었다.

Systemic Review of RCTs focusing on Chronic Fatigue

  • Objective: This study aimed to build an overview of randomized clinical controlled trials (RCTs) for chronic fatigue-related symptoms to extract the useful data for management of patients and development of therapeutics using Korean traditional medicine in the future. Methods: All RCT-derived papers for chronic fatigue-related symptoms were collected via PubMed Database. We surveyed elementary information of RCTs such as clinical question, study design, and its quality and results. Results: A total of fifty-three RCTs met these review criteria. Most of the RCTs were performed in Western countries, particularly the UK and USA. The major portion of RCTs focused on chronic fatigue syndrome using immune modulators, psychotherapeutic and anti-depressants. Five RCTs using complementary and alternative medicine, including herbal remedies, showed positive results. Conclusions: Fatigue-related symptoms are a main target of Oriental medicine. This study provides helpful information for planning clinical study of chronic fatigue-related symptoms using traditional Korean medicine.

  • Nickel base brazes containing boron and silicon as melting point depressants are used extensively in the joining and repair of hot-section components in next generation nuclear reactor and aero-engine. Therefore, the present study has investigated the preliminary applicability of nickel based alloying nano powders. Nano Ni-based alloying powders synthesized by Pulsed Wire Evaporation (PWE) method. It's powder morphology and phase transformation temperature were analyzed by scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy, and differential scanning calorimeter(DSC). The powder particle size was approximately 10${\sim}$100nm and exhibits a quite even equiaxed shape. The results of DSC measurement show that both the nano Inconel 625 nano powder and Inconel 718 nano powder presents similar liquidus temperatures approximately $1373^{\circ}C$ and $1380^{\circ}C$ respectively.

인삼(人蔘)의 중추신경계(中樞神經系)에 대(對)한 작용(作用) (Effects of Panax Ginseng on the Central Nervous System)

  • Saponin, essential oil and fat oil fractions were fractionated from Panax Ginseng and their potentiating or inhibiting actions during the combined use of several central nervous system stimulants or depressants were observed to elucidate the possible role of Ginseng fractions on the central nervous system. Saponin, essential oil and fat oil fractions shortened nembutal sleeping time at low dosage (10 mg/kg) but contrarily they produced potentiation of nembutal hypnosis at high dosage (50mg/kg). In the toxicity study of amphetamine, saponin and essential oil fractions reduced the toxicity in aggregated mice at high dosage (100 mg/kg) but such decreased lethality was not observed in isolated mice. Ginseng fractions, especially high dose of saponin fraction (100mg/kg) prolonged the survival time after injection of convulsive dose of metrazol or cocaine and saponin fraction also prolonged the onset of cocaine convulsion at high dosage (100 mg/kg).
