In this study, a aerodynamic loads prediction to design a deploying device of folded fin was introduced. In general, resultant flow conditions around the fin are used to obtain deploying moments and required energy. However, when it comes to the air vehicles launched from a mobile platform, more specific flow conditions can be provided. With the conditions, the design criteria can be calculated more realistically. In this study, therefore, aerodynamic moments induced by aerodynamic loads and energy required in deployment were calculated using wind-over-deck(WOD) velocity, combination of a platform velocity and a wind velocity. For the calculation, wind tunnel test was conducted on various angle of attack, side slip angles, and folding angles. It was found that the aerodynamic moments and the energy required in deployment using the non-uniform flow due to the velocity components were less than those using the uniform flow without the components.
Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs) consist of multiple tiny and power constrained sensors which use radio frequencies to carry out sensing in a designated sensor area. To effectively design and implement reliable WSN, it is critical to consider models, protocols, and algorithms that can optimize energy consumption of all the sensor nodes with optimal amount of packet delivery. It has been observed that deploying a single sink node comes with numerous challenges especially in a situation with high node density and congestion. Sensor nodes close to a single sink node receive more transmission traffic load compared to other sensors, thus causing quick depletion of energy which finally leads to an energy hole and sink hole problems. In this paper, we proposed the use of multiple energy efficient sink nodes with brute force technique under optimized parameters to improve on the number of packets delivered within a given time. Simulation results not only depict that, deploying N sink nodes in a sensor area has a maximum limit to offer a justifiable improvement in terms of packet delivery ratio but also offers a reduction in End to End delay and reliability in case of failure of a single sink node, and an improvement in the network lifetime rather than deploying a single static sink node.

The paper deals with a approach to underwater acoustic based Ad-hoc communication, which allows major design strategies for Media Access Control (MAC) within a group of the autonomous underwater vehicles(AUV). The proposed MAC aims at deploying AUV-centric star topology, which minimizes overhead of sensor nodes and improves energy-efficiency. Furthermore, that is also well under long and unknown propagation delays of the underwater acoustic medium. The implemented MAC protocol makes it easier to achieve frame synchronization than TDMA due to deploying localized schedule time, in addition to saving energy consumption by letting nodes sleep. It is also superior to MACA and MACAW in terms of propagation delay. This scalable centralized protocol has the potential to serve as a primer for development of MAC protocol for future underwater acoustic based ad-hoc networks.
Deploying new and renewable energy should be encouraged due to scarce of natural resources and to reduce the $CO_2$ emission. Regarding the Green Building Certification System, '2.2.1 new and renewable energy use', and '2.3.1 carbon dioxide emission reductions' are related to new and renewable energy. Applying new and renewable energy can achieve the score in two criteria mentioned above and most of buildings get a perfect score in the green building certification system. So these criteria needs to be revised to have discrimination. In this study, supply rate of new and renewable energy of the buildings that have achieved Green Building Certification by E Green Building Certification Institute was analyzed. The improvement of assessment criteria related to new and renewable energy is proposed and could be applied to the revisions.

The Fukushima nuclear accident in 2011 had an extensive impact on the national electricity plans. This paper outlines alternative electricity scenarios that meet the goals of nuclear phase-out and greenhouse gas (GHG) emission reduction. This paper also analyzes the results of each scenario in respect to the electricity mix, GHG emissions, costs and employment effects. The Long-range Energy Alternatives Planning system (LEAP) model was used to simulate the annual electricity demand and supply system from 2011 to 2030. The reference year was 2009. Scenarios are reference (where existing plans are continued), A1, A2, B1, B2, and C2 (where the levels of demand management and nuclear phase-out are different). The share of renewable energy in the electricity mix in 2030 for each scenario will be increased from about 1% in 2009 to 8% in the reference scenario and from 11% to 31% in five alternative scenarios. Total cumulative cost increases up to 14% more than the reference scenario by replacing nuclear power plants with renewable energy in alternative scenarios could be affordable. Deploying enough renewable energy to meet such targets requires a roadmap for electricity price realization, expansion of research, development and deployment for renewable energy technologies, establishment of an organization dedicated to renewable energy, and ambitious targets for renewable energy.

In wireless sensor networks (WSNs), cluster based data routing protocols have the advantages of reducing energy consumption and link maintenance cost. Unfortunately, most of clustering protocols have been designed for uniformly distributed sensor networks. However, some urgent situations do not allow thousands of sensor nodes being deployed uniformly. For example, air vehicles or balloons may take the responsibility for deploying sensor nodes hence leading a normally distributed topology. In order to improve energy efficiency in such sensor networks, in this paper, we propose a new cluster formation algorithm named DAEEC (Density Aware Energy-Efficient Clustering). In this algorithm, we define two kinds of clusters: Low Density (LD) clusters and High Density (HD) clusters. They are determined by the number of nodes participated in one cluster. During the data routing period, the HD clusters help the neighbor LD clusters to forward the sensed data to the central base station. Thus, DAEEC can distribute the energy dissipation evenly among all sensor nodes by considering the deployment density to improve network lifetime and average energy savings. Moreover, because the HD clusters are densely deployed they can work in a manner of our former algorithm EEVAR (Energy Efficient Variable Area Routing Protocol) to save energy. According to the performance analysis result, DAEEC outperforms the conventional data routing schemes in terms of energy consumption and network lifetime.
With the constant increase in network traffic, wireless operators are finding it more challenging to keep network hardware costs to a minimum. At the same time, the energy cost associated with operating a network has increased proportionally. Therefore, the search for higher network capacity is simultaneously accompanied by the search for a cost-efficient network deployment. In this paper, we show that a saving in transmitted signal energy can be achieved at the signal design level by deploying very specific signal processing techniques. Using an orthogonal frequency-division multiplexing signal for Long-Term Evolution networks as an example, we utilize a novel non-uniform companding quantizer to save a transmitted signal energy. Our results show that by using non-uniform quantization it is possible to further optimize 4G wireless networks.

The nacelle anemometer mounted behind the blade roots of a wind turbine measures distorted wind speed comparable with free-stream wind because of the wake effects caused dependent upon the operation of the wind turbine and the rotation of its blades. The field campaign was carried out to measure free-stream wind speed at a height identical to the height of the nacelle anemometer by deploying a ground-based remote-sensing equipment, LIDAR. It is derived that a third-order polynomial equation for correcting wind speed measured by the nacelle anemometer to undistorted free-stream wind speed incident to a wind turbine. It is anticipated that the derived correction equation enables wind speed measured by the nacelle anemometer to be used as a precise input for a wind turbine performance test and for developing an active control logic.
There are two types of WSN(wireless sensor networks) in terms of sensor node's capability, that is, homogeneous or heterogeneous WSN. Even though the latter has better performance than the former, it requires some overhead for deploying nodes or clustering the network. In this paper, we propose a new scheme, called VHS(Virtual Heterogenous Sensor-Network), which uses a homogeneous WSN regarding energy in a heterogeneous way. The proposed scheme's performance has been evaluated and compared with other homogeneous schemes by simulation. The results are shown to be better than the other existing homogeneous schemes used in a sample sensor network application.
The majority of existing WECs (wave energy converters) are designed to achieve maximum power at a resonance condition. In the case of a single WEC, its size must be large enough for tuning, and it has high efficiency only within a limited frequency band. Recently, wave power extraction by deploying many small buoys in a compact array has been studied under the assumption that the buoy's size and separation distance are much smaller than the water depth, wave length, and size of the array. A boundary value problem involving the macro-scale boundary condition on the mean surface covered by an infinite strip of buoys is solved using the eigenfunction expansion method. The energy extraction efficiency (${\varepsilon}=1-R^2_f-T^2_r$), where $R_f$ and $T_r$ are the reflection and transmission coefficients for a strip array of buoys, is assessed for various combinations of packing ratio, strip width, and PTO damping coefficient.
