  • The reaction rate of denitrification is primarily affected by the utilization of organics that are usually limited in the anoxic period in a sequencing batch reactor. It is necessary to add an extemal carbon source for sufficient denitrification. An adaptive model of state-space based on the extended Kalman filter is applied to manipulate the dosage rate of extemal carbon automatically. Control strategies for denitrification have been studied to improve control performance through simulations. The normal control strategy of the constant set-point results in the overdosage of external carbon and deterioration of water quality. To prevent the overdosage of external carbon, improved control strategies such as the constrained control action, variable set-point, and variable set-point after dissolved oxygen depletion are required. More stable control is obtained through the application of the variable set-point after dissolved oxygen depletion. The converging value of the estimated denitrification coefficient reflects conditions in the reactor.

  • Lithium ion batteries have been widely adopted as energy storage and the LIB global market has grown fastest. However, LIB players have struggled against maximizing energy density since commercial monolithic electrodes are limited by electrolyte depletion caused by long and tortuous Li-ion diffusion pathways. Recently, new strategies designing the structure of battery electrodes strive for creating fast Li-ion path and alleviating electrolyte depletion problem in monolithic electrodes. In this paper, given the fundamental and experimental approaches, we compare the monolithic to structured electrodes and demonstrate the ways to fabricate high energy, fast chargeable Lithium ion battery.

  • The effect of surface plasmon on ZTO thin films was investigated. The phenomenon of depletion occurring in the interface of the ZTO thin film created a potential barrier and the dielectric layer of the depletion formed a non-mass particle called plasmon. ZTO thin film represents n-type semiconductor features, and surface current by plasma has been able to obtain the effect of improving electrical efficiency as a result of high current at positive voltage and low current at negative voltage. It can be seen that the reduction of electric charge due to recombination of electronic hole pairs by heat treatment of compound semiconductors induces higher surface current in semiconductor devices.

  • Objectives The purpose of this case study was to report improvements of a Soeumin patient with sweating and palpitation after chemotherapy for primary central nervous system lymphoma by diagnosing and treating as Yang Depletion Symptomatology. Methods The Soeumin patient was administered Bojungikgi-tang and treated with acupuncture. Global assessment scale (GAS) was used to assess the improvements of symptoms. Results Sweating was improved to GAS 20 and palpitation was gone away after using Sasang constitutional medicine treatment. Conclusions This study shows that Sasang constitutional medicine can be effective treatment for side effects caused by chemotherapy for cancer.

  • Mitochondrial injury in renal tubule has been recognized as a major contributor in acute kidney injury (AKI) pathogenesis. Ischemic insult, nephrotoxin, endotoxin and contrast medium destroy mitochondrial structure and function as well as their biogenesis and dynamics, especially in renal proximal tubule, to elicit ATP depletion. Mitochondrial fatty acid ${\beta}$-oxidation (FAO) is the preferred source of ATP in the kidney, and its impairment is a critical factor in AKI pathogenesis. This review explores current knowledge of mitochondrial dysfunction and energy depletion in AKI and prospective views on developing therapeutic strategies targeting mitochondrial dysfunction in AKI.

  • WSN is the major component for information transfer in IoT environments. Source Location Privacy (SLP) has attracted attention in WSN environments. Effective SLP can avoid adversaries to backtrack and capture source nodes. This work presents a Two-Level Randomized Sector-based Routing (TLRSR) model to ensure SLP in wireless environments. Sector creation is the initial process, where the nodes in the network are grouped into defined sectors. The first level routing process identifies sector-based route to the destination node, which is performed by Ant Colony Optimization (ACO). The second level performs route extraction, which identifies the actual nodes for transmission. The route extraction is randomized and is performed using Simulated Annealing. This process is distributed between the nodes, hence ensures even charge depletion across the network. Randomized node selection process ensures SLP and also avoids depletion of certain specific nodes, resulting in increased network lifetime. Experiments and comparisons indicate faster route detection and optimal paths by the TLRSR model.

  • Autoimmune diseases are caused by a dysfunction of the acquired immune system. In a subset of autoimmune diseases, B cells escaping immune tolerance present autoantigen and produce cytokines and/or autoantibodies, resulting in systemic or organ-specific autoimmunity. Therefore, B cell depletion with monoclonal Abs targeting B cell lineage markers is standard care therapy for several B cell-mediated autoimmune disorders. In the last 5 years, genetically-engineered cellular immunotherapies targeting B cells have shown superior efficacy and long-term remission of B cell malignancies compared to historical clinical outcomes using B cell depletion with monoclonal Ab therapies. This has raised interest in understanding whether similar durable remission could be achieved with use of genetically-engineered cell therapies for autoimmunity. This review will focus on current human clinical trials using engineered cell therapies for B cell-associated autoimmune diseases.

  • The Improved Deterministic Truncation of Monte Carlo (iDTMC) is a powerful acceleration and variance reduction scheme in the Monte Carlo analysis. The concept of the iDTMC method and correlated sampling-based real variance estimation are briefly introduced. Moreover, the application of the iterative scheme to the correlated sampling is discussed. The iDTMC method is utilized in a 3-dimensional small modular reactor (SMR) model problem. The real variances of burnup-dependent criticality and power distribution are evaluated and compared with the ones obtained from 30 independent iDTMC calculations. The impact of the inactive cycles on the correlated sampling is also evaluated to investigate the consistency of the correlated sample scheme. In addition, numerical performances and sensitivity analysis on the real variance estimation are performed in view of the figure of merit of the iDTMC method. The numerical results show that the correlated sampling accurately estimates the real variances with high computational efficiencies.
