Statistical Analysis of Supersonic Downflows in Sunspot Penumbrae

  • Sunspot penumbrae show supersonic downflow patches along the periphery. These patches are believed to be the return channels of the Evershed flow. There was previous study to investigate their structure in detail using Hinode SOT/SP observations (M. van Noort et al. 2013) but their data sample was only two sunspots. To make general description it needs to check more sunspot sample. We selected 242 downflow patches of 17 sunspots using Hinode SOT/SP observations from 2006 to 2012. Height-dependent maps of atmospheric parameters of these downflows was produced by using HeLix which was height dependent LTE inversion code of Stokes profiles. The inversion code at high resolution allows for the accurate determination of small scale structures. The recovered atmospheric structure of three layers indicates that regions with very high downflow velocities contain very strong magnetic fields reaching up to 7kG. The higher downflow velocity patches have bigger patch size. Magnetic fields of downflow patches are more vertical while penumbra shows horizontal field and neighbor of downflow patches have opposite polarity. Temperature of downflow patches at highest layer have more strong value than penumbra at deepest layer. The direction of velocity of downflow patches at highest layer have two branches. These result shows that we can expect some heating precess in the middle of layer.

  • The purpose of this study is to descriptively reveal the demographic and business profile and personal-entrepreneurial characteristics in Manado, the capital of North Sulawesi, and secondly to associate these profiles and characters to their business progress. A sample size of 21 respondents was drawn - selected from those who warmly welcomed the interviewers for an open-ended structured questionnaire. SPSS 24 has been employed to descriptively reveal the sample distribution according to demographic factors and business entities and to determine the dominant factors affecting the progress of the business by testing the hypothesis on the association of variables under study using specified statistical analytical tools, such as regression analysis, especially stepwise regression formula, between specified dependent variables and independent variables and /or between all variables. The stepwise regression analysis has enabled the researcher to determine which variables are the most important reflecting the personal characteristics theorized as "locus of control": self-efficacy, needs for achievement, personal traits, and barriers to business progress The analysis reveals that the progress of business does have an association and is dependent on the source of capital and education, needs for achievement and locus of control.

황연(黃連)이 Lipopolysaccharide 뇌실 주입으로 유발된 생쥐의 IL-6와 $TNF-{\alpha}$ 변화에 미치는 영향 (Effects of Coptidis Rhizoma on the Change of Interleukin-6 and $TNF-{\alpha}$ Level induced by LPS I.C.V. Injection in Mice)

  • Objective: This study was conducted to investigate the effects of Coptidis Rhizoma on the plasma IL-6 and $TNF-{\alpha}$ level in mice by intracerebroventricular(I.C.V.) injection of Lipopolysaccharide (LPS). Method: 6 mice were assigned to each of the Normal group, the Control group, and the individual Experimental groups. In the Normal group only saline was administered intragastrically, and in the Control group LPS was injected intracerebroventricularly 1 hr after intragastric administration of saline. In the Experimental groups Coptidis Rhizoma(0.5g/kg, 1.0g/kg, 3.0g/kg) was administered intragastrically to mice 1 hr prior to LPS (100ng/mouse) I.C.V. Injection. To measure the plasma IL-6 and $TNF-{\alpha}$ level of mice, their blood samples were collected from retro-orbital venous plexus, immediately centrifuged at $4^{\circ}C$, and plasma was removed and stored frozen at $-83^{\circ}C$ for later determination of plasma IL-6 and $TNF-{\alpha}$. Result: 1. LPS I.C.V. Injection increased plasma IL-6 level significantly in a dose-dependent manner compared with Normal group. (P<0.01) The plasma IL-6 concentration reached a significant maximal level about 1 hr after LPS(100ng/mouse) I.C.V. Injection.(P<0.001) 2. Both the 0.5g/kg(Sample A) and 1.0g/kg(Sample B) groups to which Coptidis Rhizoma was administered intragastrically 1 hr prior to LPS(100ng/mouse) I.C.V. Injection showed insignificant lower plama IL-6 level in 1 hr than Control group(P>0.05), and 3.0g/kg group(Sample C) conversely showed higher plama IL-6 level than Control group. 3. LPS I.C.V. Injection increased plasma $TNF-{\alpha}$ level significantly in a dose-dependent manner compared with Normal group.(P<0.05) The plasma $TNF-{\alpha}$ concentration reached a significant maximal level about 1 hr after LPS(100ng/mouse) I.C.V. Injection.(P<0.001) 4. All Sample groups(0.5g/kg, 1.0g/kg, and 3.0g/kg) to which Coptidis Rhizoma was administered intragastrically with each constituent-dose 1 hr prior to LPS(100ng/mouse) I.C.V. Injection showed significant lower $TNF-{\alpha}$ plama level in 1 hr than Control group.(P<0.001) These data revealed that Coptidis Rhizoma might have anti inflammatory effect by reducing the plasma $TNF-{\alpha}$ level in a dose dependent manner in mice LPS I.C.V. Injection.

편측성 폐질환 환자의 체위변경이 생리적 지표에 미치는 영향 (The Effect of Body Positioning on Physiologic Index in Patients with Unilateral Lung Disease)

  • The purpose of this study was to identify the effect of body positioning on $PaO_2$, $SpO_2$, systolic blood pressure, diastolic blood pressure, pulse, and respiration(above all defined physiologic index), of patients with unilateral lung disease. The subjects for this study were eleven patients admitted to I.C.U. of K.H.M.C. with a diagnosis of unilateral lung disease confirmed by chest X-ray and the attending doctor, from January 30th. to April 20th. 1999. A quasi-experimental repeated-measures cross-over design was used to compare three body positions(semi-Fowler's, lateral decubitus with good lung dependent, and lateral decubitus with diseased lung dependent). Each subject spent 30 minutes in semi-Fowler's position and 2 hours in good lung dependent position and diseased lung dependent position. Starting in the semi-Fowler's position, then in the lateral position with the good lung dependent or the diseased lung dependent as assigned in random order. Thirty minutes after each positioning, arterial blood sample was analyzed. Measurements of all physiologic index were recorded at the specified intervals(0, 30, 60 90, and 120 minutes) in good lung dependent and diseased lung dependent position. Statistical comparison of $PaO_2$ value was done using the Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test, and Multivariate repeated-measures analysis of variance was performed to analyse the within-subject effect of two dependent position for 2 hours on the five dependent variables: (1) $PaO_2$ (2) $SpO_2$ (3) systolic blood pressure (4) diastolic blood pressure (5) pulse. The results obtained were as follows: 1. The $PaO_2$ value in the good lung dependent position was significantly higher than the $PaO_2$ value in the diseased lung dependent position(Z=-2.8451, p=.002). 2. The $PaO_2$ value in the good lung dependent position was significantly higher than the $PaO_2$ value in the semi-Fowler's position (Z=-2.6673, p=.003). 3. The difference between the $PaO_2$ value in the semi-Fowler's position and the $PaO_2$ value in the diseased lung dependent position was not significant(Z=-1.2448, p=.10). 4. There were no statistically significance in the trends of physiologic index in the good lung dependent position and the diseased lung dependent position. From the results, it may be concluded that the good lung dependent position is the most effective position for patients with unilateral lung disease that improve oxygenation. Identification of positioning over time may be need further studies.

A Comparison between Dependent and Independent Attitude Groups Regarding Elderly Lives and Living Arrangements

  • The purpose of this research was to study opinions on elderly housing and attitudes toward the problems related to elderly lives, which were due to dependence or independence in later life. The survey was conducted among middle-aged people in their fifties, living in Seoul. The final sample included 498 respondents. Since the statistical analysis was focused only on independent and dependent groups, total cases for the analysis were 373. The results of this study were as follows. Firstly, the group that was more independent in later life tended to be healthier, lived with a husband or wife, had no children, and had more monthly income and assets. Secondly, the group that was more independent in later life believed that they had the sole responsibility of resolving later life issues. The group that was more dependent believed that their family, not themselves, must resolve their later life problems. The independent group wanted to continue their work or enjoy leisure. Thirdly, the group that was more independent about elderly housing stated that they were responsible for it, while the other group stated that their family was. There were no significant differences between the two groups in terms of general idea, and social interest. However, the independent group answered that more development and management of elderly housing were needed. The expected living arrangement in their later lives was similar. Also, there were no differences between the two groups in living with family or the demand for service from elderly housing.

휨 모멘트에 대한 오이의 응력이완(應力弛緩) 특성(特性) (Stress Relaxation Properties of Cucumber under Bending Moment)

  • Stress relaxation behaviors of the cucumber under bending moment were tested with UTM at three levels of loading rate and initial deflection ratio. Sample cucumber was selected from three cultivars of cucumber, Cheongjangmadi, Baekdadagi, and Gyeousalicheongjang, because these cultivars are the most popular grown cultivars in Korea. When the bending moment was applied to the cucumber sample, the effective span between simple supports was held a constant value of 116mm with consideration of the selected sample length. The objectives of this study were to develop the rheological models such as linear and nonlinear models of the stress relaxation for the cucumber samples, and to investigate the effects of loading rate and initial deflection ratio on the stress relaxation behavior of the cucumber. The results of this study may be summarized as follows : 1. Stress relaxation behavior of the cucumber could be well described by the generalized Maxwell model for each level of deflection ratio. But the stress relaxation behavior of the sample was found to be initial deflection ratio and time dependent, and it was represented the nonlinear viscoelastic model as a function of initial deflection ratio and time. 2. Stress relaxation behavior of the cucumber samples was very highly affected by the loading rate and the initial deflection ratio. The more loading rate and initial deflection ratio resulted in the more initial bending stress and after stress relaxation progressed more rapidly. 3. At the same test conditions, it was found that the stress relaxation rate of Cheongjangmadi was faster than that of other cultivars.

Improving Interface Characteristics of Al2O3-Based Metal-Insulator-Semiconductor(MIS) Diodes Using H2O Prepulse Treatment by Atomic Layer Deposition

  • We performed temperature dependent current-voltage (I-V) measurements to characterize the electrical properties of $Au/Al_2O_3/n-Ge$ metal-insulator-semiconductor (MIS) diodes prepared with and without $H_2O$ prepulse treatment by atomic layer deposition (ALD). By considering the thickness of the $Al_2O_3$ interlayer, the barrier height for the treated sample was found to be 0.61 eV, similar to those of Au/n-Ge Schottky diodes. The thermionic emission (TE) model with barrier inhomogeneity explained the final state of the treated sample well. Compared to the untreated sample, the treated sample was found to have improved diode characteristics for both forward and reverse bias conditions. These results were associated with the reduction of charge trapping and interface states near the $Ge/Al_2O_3$ interface.

압밀특성에 관한 연구 (I) (선행하중이 압밀특성에 주는 영향) (A Study on the Characteristics of Consolidation of Soils (I) (The Influence of Pre-consolidation Load of Soils on Consolidation Characteristics))

  • The determination of the pre-consolidation load known to have a great effect on the consolidation characteristics of the soil have been researched and discussed in detail by many other researchers. A study was undertaken to investigate and compare the effect of pre-consolidation loads on the coefficient of permeability and the consolidation characterisics of soil through the consolidation test on the three types of soil samples. The results of this study are follows; 1. Large compression index is dependent on initial void ratio of the sample being used and the pressure-void ratio curve shows a curved linear relationship in over-consolidated area but a linear relationship in normally consolidated area.2. Settlement-time curve is S-shaped where the pressure is larger than pre-consolidation load and regardless of over-burden pressure, it is a similar straight line respectively in the secondary consolidation area. 3. Primary consolidation ratio of the sample increases almost linearly with the increase of over-burden pressure but the coefficient of volume compressibility decreases linearly with the increase of it. 4. Time factor of a certain degree of consolidation increases with over-burden pressure but the coefficient of consolidation decreases with it in over-consolidated area. There is a linear relationship between them in normally consolidated area. 5. The void ratio of completion point of primary consolidation decreases linearly with over-burden pressure. 6. The coefficient of permeability of sample decreases linearly with over-burden pressure in normally consolidated area, also it increases linearly with increment of the void ratio of the sample.

영상처리를 이용한 용선시편의 표면결함 검사방법 (Surface Defect Inspection Method of Iron Samples using Image Processing)

  • For producing iron or steel products with good quality, the concentration of the material components should be analyzed quickly with high relability using XRF(Fluorescent X-Ray Spectrometer). Since the analysis results are much dependent upon the surface con- dition, the samples have to be prepared to have good test condition. This study presents an image processing system for inspecting the surface condition of the iron test sample. In order to use thd computer vision system, we need to develop a lighting device and image processing algorithm. For the adequate lighting device of inspection system, the indirect lighting device is contrived to cut the external light and provide uniform, stable and cold light. The image processing algorithm is aimed to reduce inspection time and to get similar analyzing results to those of the experienced operators. At first, the image processing algorithm checks whether the surface of the iron sample is ground well or not. Then, the defects; hole or dig are conted and surface condition is evaluated. In addition, the algorithm gives the reliability of the analyzing results in order to help operator's decision.

담배 배양 세포의 성장과정 중 칼슘/칼모듈린-결합단백질 및 glutamate decarboxylase의 생성변화 (Changes in the levels of $Ca^{2+}$/calmodulin - binding proteins and glutamate decarboxylase during the growth of tobacco suspension cells)

  • 담배 배양 세포의 성장과정 중의 칼모듈린 농도변화 및 칼모듈린 결합 단백질의 종류에 대하여 조사하고 이들 단백질들 중 글루탐산 탈탄산효소를 immunodetection과 활성측정으로 확인하였다. 담배세포는 유도기(초기 $1{\sim}2$일간), 대수증식기($3{\sim}5$일), 정지기 등의 전형적인 성장 패턴을 보였다. 칼모듈린의 농도는 비록 대수증식기에 약간 감소하는 경향을 보이다 정지기에 이르면서 유도기의 수준을 회복하는 것으로 나타났지만 전체적으로는 성장단계에 관계없이 유사한 수준을 유지하는 것으로 나타났다. 주요 칼슘-의존형 칼모듈린 결합단백질은 56, 46, 36, 32-kDa의 4종류인 것으로 조사되었고, 모노클로날 항체를 이용하여 immunodetection을 실시해 본 결과 56-kDa 단백질이 담배 글루탐산 탈탄산효소로 확인되었다. 56-kDa의 글루탐산 탈탄산효소는 대수증식기에 수확한 세포에서 가장 많이 검출되었고, 이와같은 패턴은 효소활성 측정에서도 확인되었다. 이러한 결과들은 담배세포의 성장과정 중에 칼슘/칼모듈린-의존형 글루탐산 탈탄산효소 농도가 조절되고 있음을 제안해 주는 것이다.
