  • This study examined the effect of preschooler's emotional intelligence, child-teacher relationships (intimacy, conflict and dependency) on children's social competence. A sample of 269 children (142 boys and 127 girls) aged 3 to 6 in Seoul or Gyeonggi-do participated in the Emotional Intelligence Scale, the Child-Teacher Relationships Scale and Social Competence Scale by teachers. Descriptive statistics, t -test, Pearson's correlation analysis and regression analysis analyzed data via SPSS ver. 20.0. This study followed a mediated effect model. The results showed that: (1) The emotional intelligence of girls was significantly higher than boys. However, the child-teacher relationship and children's social competence had no significant difference relationship to gender. (2) There was a mediating effect of child-teacher relationships between preschooler's emotional intelligence and social competence. The effect of emotional intelligence on social competence was partially mediated by intimate relationship, conflict relationship and dependency relationship. The degree of mediating effect was investigated in regards to conflict relationship, dependency relationship and intimate relationship. This study demonstrated that child-teacher relationships mediate the relationship between emotional intelligence and social competence of preschoolers.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the moderating effects of parental monitoring on the relationship between children's dependency on mobile phones and control of learning behavior. The data came from the 2010 Korean Children and Youth Panel (N = 1,609) conducted by the National Youth Policy Institute. The analysis method used was Structural Equation Modeling by using SPSS 17.0 and AMOS 7.0. To test the significant moderating effects, Ping's two-step technique, which is free from the requirement of nonlinear constraints, was used. Our results demonstrated that children's dependency on mobile phones had negative effects on control of learning behavior, and the interaction effects between such dependency and parental monitoring affected the control of learning behavior. Thus, these results proved the moderating effects of parental monitoring in the control of learning behavior. This study suggests that parental monitoring buffers against having difficulties to control and adjust one's behavior associated with control of learning behavior, which is affected by the dependency on mobile phones among children. We discussed that the risks of children's dependency on mobile phones and parental monitoring should be acknowledge as a significant protective factor.

  • The purpose of this study was to classify the elementary school students to latent groups according to the type of mobile phone usage and to verify the relationship with mobile phone dependency. The latent profile analysis was conducted using the first grade panel data of the elementary school in the Korea Children 's Youth Panel in 2016. The results found 3 latent classes of mobile phone usage: family and friend concentration (Type1), family concentration low level (Type2) and essential (Type3). The results of multiple regression analysis for verifying the relationship between mobile phone use type and mobile phone dependency showed a significant effect. The Type 2 showed more dependency than the Type 1, and the Type 1 showed more dependency than the Type 3. These findings provided basis for the guideline of mobile phones use and for proper intervention to prevent mobile phone dependency for elementary school students.

  • Objective: The purpose of this study is to investigate the moderating role of Ego-Resilience between Peer Attachment and Mobile Phone Dependency in late adolescence. Methods: The participants were 2056 third year high school adolescents (1,041 boys and 1,015 girls) from the Korea Youth Panel Study (KYPS), a national representative of Korean Children and adolescence. Hierarchical Regression was used for data analysis. Results: First, the correlation between peer attachment, ego-resilience and mobile phone dependency were all significant. Second, ego-resilience takes the role of moderator for mobile phone dependency. In detail, ego-resilience relieves the mobile phone dependency caused by 'peer relationships' or 'conflict in peer relationships. Conclusion/Implications: Ego-resilience was found to control the relationship between peer attachment and mobile phone dependency. Therefore, in order to lower the dependence of mobile phones in adolescents with low peer attachment, a program that can enhance ego-resilience is needed.

The data of this study were collected from 105 long-term care elderly caregivers with 3 grade in Pusan, Daegu, and Gyung-buk area. The results showed that each stress of caregivers was influenced by diverse characteristics in various ways. Time-dependent stress of caregivers was influenced by elderly dependency and caregivers' health. Self-development stress of caregivers was influenced by elderly dependency, caregivers' health, caregivers' age, and relationship quality. Physical stress of caregivers was influenced by elderly dependency and caregivers' health. Social stress of caregivers was influenced by elderly dependency, caregivers' health, and relationship quality. Emotional stress of caregivers was influenced by relationship quality between the elderly and caregivers. These results indicated that the caregivers' stress was influenced not only physical characteristics of the elderly and the caregivers but also relational characteristics.

  • It is very important to analyze online customer reviews, which are small documents of writing opinions or experiences about products or services, for both customers and companies because the customers can get good informations and the companies can establish good marketing strategies. In this paper, we did not propose only dependency network model which is tool for analyzing online customer reviews, but also designed and implemented the system based on the dependency network model. The dependency network model analyzes both subjective and objective sentences, so that it can represent relative importance and relationship between the nouns in the sentences. In the result of implementing, we recognized that relative importance and relationship between the features of products or services, which can not be mined by opinion mining, can be represented by the dependency network model.

  • The purpose of this study was to examine the relationship between mothers' smartphone dependency(MSD) and their children's problem behavior and how children's smartphone dependency(CSD) mediates this relationship. A survey was conducted in the Seoul and Gyeonggi of 300 mothers having children from two to six years old. The results showed that MSD was directly related to both CSD and children's problem behavior, and in particular, had greater effects than CSD on children's problem behavior. CSD was found to mediate the relationship between MSD and children's problem behavior. The results suggest that mothers and their children should be provided with education on the proper usage of smartphone to prevent problem behavior in children, and that the development of preventive programs for smartphone addiction is needed.

  • This study aimed to demonstrate the complex and structural relationships between (a) the purposes of using mobile phones, and (b) the levels of mobile phone dependency and depressive symptoms among elementary school students. We analyzed data from the 3rd Korean Children and Youth Panel Survey using structural modeling. Results showed the level of mobile phone usage for contacting family members negatively affected the mobile phone dependency. However, the levels of mobile phone usage for contacting friends and personal entertainment positively influenced the mobile phone dependency. Mobile phone dependency positively affected depressive symptoms. Mobile phone dependency partially mediated the relationship between the level of mobile phone usage for contacting family members and depressive symptoms. Mobile phone dependency fully mediated two relationships: (1) between the level of mobile phone usage for contacting friends and depressive symptoms and (2) between the level of mobile phone usage for personal entertainment and depressive symptoms.
